Looking at the aggy OV list on 247, we really don't have much crossover with them on recruits.

They'll land somebody like Tank King and Looch and the 247 gomers will claim some huge victory for the Elk over Sark.

The only other noticeable recruits currently on the OV list for them is Turntine, Carlton and from OOS is Jabari Mack and Bryce Perry-Wright.

Don't these guys know that there will be a pool party or a visit to a swimming tank?

Here's an article by Tarp about the ATM CBs and NBs, post-spring practices. They seem to believe that this part of the roster is a team strength. I see 1 guy (Lee) that Texas would actually take if they entered the portal and about 3-4 others that would probably get a look (Chappell, maybe Currie or the other freshman?). It's true, they have much shittier units, I guess.

Spoiler

1. Texas A&M's corners are pretty much set on one side with veteran Will Lee back. The other side is a different story and it will be interesting to see what happens in the off season and then fall camp.

2. Lee is a tall, physical corner whose frame enables him to disrupt wideouts in their routes when he is squared up and can get his hands on them. He is good at driving on the ball from an off alignment. He is capable of running people into the boundary on deeper routes. In addition, he is a physical run defender who plays like a safety. However, he lacks long speed and plays corner at times like he is a safety.

3. Third year man Dezz Ricks is a former five star who entered Alabama a year ahead of his graduating class from high school. He earned a starting spot early in the 2024 season due to his fluid hips and at times showed an ability to adjust to the ball in the air. Ricks can take away the shorter routes, but he can struggle to play the ball down the field.

4. Newcomer Julian Humphrey came over from Georgia and started most of the 2024 campaign before giving way to someone else. He's got top end speed and length and likes to push people into the boundary with his hips and shoulders. However, like Ricks, playing the ball in the air can be problematic on downfield routes can be problematic.

5. Nickel Jordan Shaw came over from Washington and it was interesting that you saw him as an underneath guy in zone coverages in the spring game (which was how the position was used with the Huskies). He has garnered accolades from teammates via his athleticism, but we didn't see a lot of him in the spring game in man situations. He really wants to get his hands on people in man situations when they're already at his level

6. Tyreek Chappell is back after missing virtually all of 2024 with an injury although he held out of the contact (going through drills instead). Chappell gives the Aggies a reliable outside corner, but he opened 2024 as the starting nickel and so could be a factor at either spot depending on what they want to do.

7. Bravion Rogers was at nickel on Saturday, and he has got top end speed and a little more length than I think people realize. He has improved as a tackler but how much of a run support guy he can be remains to be seen.

8. The freshman corners were in a work in progress mode most of the spring as would be expected given how many veterans there were in front of them. Adonyss Currie had a nice interception on Saturday because he had a deep third and made sure to not let the wideout get behind him. On the other hand, he also surrendered a score because he struggled to get his head turned around even though the wideout was making a play on the ball. They'll be asked to learn things this season to prepare them for future years.

9. Overall, there might be some changes going into season opener depending on how things shake out in fall camp. A&M probably needs to lock down the spot opposite Lee at corner and see what Chappell can do when he returns to contact mode in August before finalizing anything.

Thanks, @closetojumping. I particularly like your comments on talent levels generally and particularly.

I gave Tarp's article fair edits in an effort to see what ctj sees.

Pretty much half-set, amigo. Also, it will be interesting to see is as close to Aggies get so far as saying something will turn out bad. It will be interesting to see how t.u.'s roster gets along after paying each DT 2 or 3 million dollars.

And these "set" cb's?

Lee is obviously good with one flaw. Sadly for the Aggies, it's shared among their top three guys. They better have a terrifying pass rush to shut down being shelled deep all season.

Ricks was a five star which counts for everything if your team can't develop talent. At least,  your stupid fans can brag about their players' high school careers.

The last guy lost a starting spot and decided A&M was the place for him.

At least they've got reliable, all around talented guys:

Jordan couldn't get on the field to play man to man in the spring game.

Tyreek will emerge from the injury coccoon as a relliable corner.

Bravion? Well, ol' Bravion is longer than we all thought.

There's always the future:

8. The freshman corners'll be asked to learn things this season to prepare them for future years.

Impressive.

Lastly, wordsmithing. If you only know one way to say something, say it twice for emphasis:

His athleticism is such that his teamates can use it for conveying messages!

This man is paid to write.

They also landed a high 4* ATH from Georgia in the 27' class.

Still a bit mind boggling they continue to land a bunch of 4* recruits from OOS.

Out of state kids don’t have any idea what sort of weird little world they are entering in College Station. That’s why A&M gets them.

Of in-state kids, most understand the Aggie Factor, but those that live in proximity to College Station, like Katy, or have Aggie relatives, will still give the school a shot, until realizing once they get there that the people and culture are weird.

The Spring Game did them no favors.  Other than blown coverages, they typically had a guy on the WR.  Looking back for the ball isn't taught. Reed should be 2-3 string. Miles was decent and Zeno OK.  Miles is their best hope.  Defense is slow and Reed can't hit anything unless 3rd string guys on coverage. Their OL is really bad. I hope we get Reed late in the season but I think it's going to be Miles and he does have some talent ... until Klein coaches it out of him. I wonder, have such a shitshow in Spring to dampen portal incentivitations?  Seems like an Elko thing to do.  Why any decent QB, Wr, or skill position other than a RB would go there is crazy.  Subpar coaching = shit team for the Elk.  He'll be gone in a few, but let's hold him as long as able.
