Yeah, I am not sure I have much faith. Someone please get me off the ledge.

"I want to thank Gregg for his hard work and dedication to U.S. Soccer and our Men's National Team," Cone said in a statement. "We are now focused on working with our Sporting Director Matt Crocker and leveraging his experience at the highest levels of the sport to ensure we find the right person to lead the USMNT into a new era of on-field success."

They made a fantastic hire for the women’s team.   That’s all I got.

I know we have some "dream hires" But I don't think a hire like Renard would be a bad one. The guy is a World Cup specialist. He clearly gets something about coaching national teams. Just a reminder these guys would go on to score 2 goals right after this and pull the upset of the tournament beating Argentina 2-1 in their first game.

Just a reminder, Saudi Arabia had an xG between 0.14 and 0.16…

And they scored 2 goals. If Renard can guarantee about 13 TIMES as many goals as your xG against World Cup winners, we should sign him up!!

If this vacancy had happened next year, I could see Klopp giving it more thought. Just a little over 1 month since he left Anfield, no chance.

This had always been my feeling given the timing. So it goes, at least we asked and tried.

Manchester isn't too far from Liverpool, so how about we give Pep a call?

Keep in mind that the USMNT job doesn't have the same expectations as the USWNT job. It's not an elite job relative to other national teams' jobs whereas the women's job very much is. There's a reason we could pull someone like Emma Hayes for that job.

Consider that as US Soccer vets candidates. I don't mind if Crocker shoots for the moon but he also needs to recognize that he's not going to get the same kind of interest for the men as he did the women.

I get that Klopp wants a nice vacation. But after a few months even places like Marbella and St Tropez get old. Doing nothing can get really boring.

The US job may not be Italy or Brazil, but it’s pretty cush job compared to those and with really high upside. Just sit there at your villa and watch tape of the players, schedule calls and short trips to have dinner with the euro players. Hold practice sessions at your villa. Fly to Miami or New York or Dallas or LA or wherever for a few friendlies and camps. Get out of the group in the WC. Be a hero.

You don’t even have to go play at Granada or Honduras to qualify.

Surprised he shot it down so fast.

The good news is there’s an experienced coach named Gregg something that’s newly available. I hear he’s also already familiar with our existing style of play and personnel which both seem like huge pluses to me.

NY Times reporting that Klopp said no. Wants to take a break.

Keep asking.  He'll get tired of his break eventually.  Pleasepleaseplease.gif

Don't know what to think about Hervé Renard nothing on his resume says that he is expected to make a semi-final on local soil.

well according to that tweet it’s either him or cherundolo, so be careful what you wish for. also, hasn’t renard won afcon with two different countries? he’d be a massive upgrade over gregg and he’s got experience at major international tourneys.

also it’s been amusing over the last 24-36 hours watching a million different people on twitter all acting they were the first person to consider him as a potential candidate. as far as the available and interested coaches he go he’s one of the more obvious candidates.

Nah, if we are going to hire anyone that's not American. Hire Herve Renard. IYKYK.

10 days ago. He’s a pretty obvious choice. I think we (the surly brain trust) bandied his name around on both hires of beerholder.

AFCON champs in 2012 and 2015.

If BJ Callahan can get more out of this team than GGG, then why the heartburn over Cherundolo?

I get wanting a coach who has coached in Europe, but “beggars can't be choosers,” as they say.

Was GGG our Charlie Strong or our Tom Herman?

i’d just rather hire pretty much anyone with major national team tournament experience.

now that we have graduated to a country whose best players play in europe, any domestic hire is the nats equivalent of david mcwilliams

the euronats will say they respect him, but they won't be scared of him

I can’t be scared of his Stuart Smalley voice.

But seriously, that’s your answer dude? Schloss was at least an asshole about it. The fact that you sound like a scared puppy is pretty pathetic.
