I might guess flint or chert or one of the variations of small-crystal quartz.

looks like boring chert and typical siliceous ooze

So, any ideas on this one?  Found it in Zapata Co.  Very black in color and the white part is somewhat soft.  If you work at it; you can scrape/pick some out.  Quarter for size refence, along with usual junk in my pocket.

The upper stuff looks like feldspar.

The lower one might contain calcium or possibly sodium. It looks like a wishing stone which has a quartz band but that band wouldn't be soft.

Does it look like glass (It looks like it reflects like it and has conical fractures in the photo)? If so it's probably obsidian.

I'm sure it is obsidian. But, what I don't get is why he is showing random pictures of rocks to us.

I thought it pretty obvious that that is a broken point made from obsidian. The other stuff is really what I was curious about. Some of it is almost glass like in it's translucency. Yet it is tough enough to last just as long as a piece of English flint when I manage to knap a piece into the right shape to use in my flintlock. My understanding is that quartz us generally too brittle to last more than a few shots when used as a gun flint.
