God this team is infuriating. I’m really going to be surprised if we manage to get to the Sweet 16 unless Madi goes ham

I know she’s out, but this team is going to be very diff next year without her, Jenna and RR

I'm honestly ready for it

TO, 11-7 OM.  We had cut it to 8-7

Assume this is for Wenaas letting 2 serves go that were in late in the 4th?

There's another

Jenna hit a smooth .152 today vs .312 for Devin

Devin front row, Jenna back row. I’m all for that.

5’10 Nia Washington is kicking our ass though. 21 kills

She finished with 30 kills and 13 errors on 75 swings.  All 3 of those are numbers you don't see every day.

I'm all for Devin playing for Jenna in the front...she showed today she isn't afraid to swing at out-of-system balls, unlike Jenna.

But the problem with that happening is that we will run out of substitutions really quickly if Devin plays front row and Jenna plays backrow, since Akana subs for Rutherford to play backrow and Binney subs in for Ames for serving/backrow defense.

Devin's passing and backrow defense just isn't up to par with Jenna's at this point in time, so I just don't see JE playing Devin all 6 rotations with Madi in the post-season.

I mean, I’d rather have Devin’s offense so maybe I live with the back row play by having an OH2 who can take out the trash.  Especially in rotation 1

Can always sub Jenna in if Devin is struggling in the back row

So is Swindle pretty much done playing for the season?

Barring late defensive subbing for her block

This is my guess as well. Entirely too predictable. They want this match up again.

Either it will match up for 2/3 Wisky and Texas or 1/4 Nebraska/Texas in the S16

Wow, we got a really good draw.

Glad we didn’t get Wisky as our 2 and Nebraska as our 1

But this team could lose to USC in round 2 or upset PSU in the elite 8. Who knows

Definitely but I don't think Creighton is a terrible 2 seed match-up and I would rather play Penn State over Nebraska. This went as about as well as you could expect.

PSU beat NU convincingly on Saturday.  They look good.

PSU at home is a beast. But so was Stanford last year 🤷🏻‍♂️

They are good but we have to go through some good team as the 1 seed.

Not sure how RPI ended up, but last week Penn State was #4 in RPI. Pretty sure I would rather play Penn State over Nebraska and Pittsburgh as 1 seeds.

Agreed you will have to go through someone tough.  They are 1 seeds for a reason.  Just not sure PSU is any easier than NU.  Not having to deal with Wisconsin and Franklin as a 2 seed is a win though.

Pitt is the most complete team and Babcock would probably serve Jenna into the shadow realm

Nebraska would have the revenge factor from being embarrassed last year by us. Do not want.

PSU or Louisville were fine with me. But also didn’t want Louisville to have that “revenge” factor from the 2022 title game.

Plus it’s nice to go somewhere our team hasn’t been in a long time.

UT-Arlington only has 2 losses this year. Dang, good for them. I’m sure their RPI is like 100 but still it’s an accomplishment

It is not THE sexy first round upset pick, but it is a popular one - UTA will upset USC.

Also their RPI is 43, lol.  Quite respectable.  2 losses were TCU and Rice back in September.  They ran through the WAC, but had 2 five-setters to win the WAC tournament against Cal Baptist and GCU.

Will they? Idk.

Am I kind of salty that the committee waited until the first year post-Skylar Fields to match us up with USC? Yes.

9 teams from our state made the bracket of 64. Thats the most I've seen before.

2 SMU
3 Texas
4 Baylor
5 TCU
6 aggy
TX ST
UTA
TAMUCC
UTEP

First year since...2019(?) that a Texas team is seeded above UT.  That year, Baylor was the #1 overall and Texas was the #2 overall

That’s a name I haven’t heard in a while. She had quite the quiet and unremarkable career. Not all blue chips live up to their billing

Two years at USC in 61 matches played:

1215 kills / 5.13 kills per set
.305 hitting %
1.99 digs per set
120 total blocks (.51 blocks per set)
0.11 services aces per set

+ 85 additional matches at Texas put her at over 2,000 kills for her entire career.

She was good, not great, for being a #1 overall player.  But she went from a championship program at Texas to USC, where they went 22-11 (second round loss) and 19-13 (second round loss) in her two seasons.

USC was a 6 seed in 2022, so they were never coming to Austin to face #1 Texas.  And we all know in 2023, the committee saw aggy and creamed their jeans about putting them in Austin.
