A lot of guff from Corn fans, as if they don’t have 2 DSes that could be starting Liberos anywher else

Bravo to the coaching staff! Getting back to the use of the portal that worked best for them - shore up our teams weaknesses rather than going after just another heavy arm.

She's known as a good libero - is she better than Halter? And more of a passing or defense strength?

Gonna be interesting to see what that does with emerick. Her BF is not playing at UT now and will head to minors. Elliot burned her shirt. Kinda sucks for the kid if she wants to play.

Will likely be behind now both Gary and incoming Krueger, which is a stout back row.

We need the best backrow players on the court.

Emerick will have a year of collegiate experience over incoming freshman Krueger...so if she is good enough, she will see the court since we'll be utilizing the 3 defensive "littles" again.

Stafford likes Gary’s post

Honestly even if we don't get Stafford, I think we'll still be pretty strong at the pins with Whitney, Devin, Cari, and AVW.

The ball control was really the issue with the pins, but getting Gary has definitely alleviated some of the concerns.

The biggest issue next season IMO is improving Ella's setting to all the hitters, especially to the MBs.

Krueger is the top libero in the class. Will be hard to beat her out as the second DS

As Glen Lietzke used to tell us all the time, "No pass, no play". And we saw that play out on the court ad nauseum this season, so yeah, huge acquisition. Even better if we land Stafford.

But it also means we are now hiring a new "defensive coordinator" because the USAWNT schedule conflicts with the NCAA women's volleyball schedule.

So curious who it will be.  Erik has been here 14 seasons.

Is he resigning from Texas, then?

Yes.  He'd be gone from the program for months at a time, it's pretty impossible to do both.  VNL starts in June 2025.

Texas Volleyball Associate Head Coach Erik Sullivan has been named the head coach of the U.S. Women's National Team, USA Volleyball announced on Monday. The search for Sullivan's replacement will begin immediately.

Need a coach that can continue the MBU legacy (especially in blocking) and improve backrow defense/ball control.

If s/he can also coach up setting technique, I'd be ecstatic.

Hunt is the setting coach. RBC does serve receive and passing

Yeah, I know Sullivan was in charge of scouting opposing offenses and setting up schemes for the block and backrow defense. So whoever is hired will have similar responsibilities.

Just would be an added bonus if that person also had actual experience in improving setting and ball control techniques.

Erik Sullivan named HC of the USA WNT!

Wow. Following Karch the goat? No pressure!

I'm sure he'll do a fantastic job though. Congrats, Coach!

Stafford must have just visited, as she’s following some Texas players (new follows), recruits (2026 Gugino) and Elliot’s wife.

JE's wife posted on TikTok "it's fun knowing something other people don't" -

So it's either Stafford or the new assistant.

No one is better than Emma.  Maybe Zoe. 😛

Quality back row depth makes me happy.

She definitely is not going to beat out a 3 year starter for libero.

I would imagine the plan going forward is something like -

2025 - SR Halter (L), JR Gary (DS), FR Krueger (DS)
2026 - SR Gary (L), SO Krueger (DS), FR Cugino (DS)
2027 - JR Kreuger/ SO Cugino (L), SO Cugino/ JR Krueger (DS), TBD (DS)

Some of the insta accounts are following Stafford's fam and the Meske fam - Dan Meske is the Associate HC at Louisville and their defensive coordinator, since he joined in 2017.  They were a pretty ferocious blocking team in 2024.

Both Elliot's wife and the Texas Volleyball account follow Meske's wife now.

Dan Meske was my first choice for the Associate Coach position right after Sullivan was announced as the USWNT coach.

Getting Meske from Louisville and OH Stafford from Pitt would be a major coup by JE.

Yep! That would be a fantastic hire if it happened. He’s been on my radar. I understand he’s likely the favorite for the Louisville job when/if DBK goes to Nebraska, but if she doesn’t want to follow Cook?  Following the legend is really hard

Word on the streets is Stafford's announcement is tomorrow

Also, official.  2 is how many times she has transferred.

So, Averi went to SMU and took our university president with her....hmmm.

Or Hartzell took Carlson with him!

Someone with portal access says Stafford is a Longhorn.  Announcement pending, but if it's in the portal, it means she signed her paperwork.

Stafford + Gary + returners + newcomers =

  • Extremely good backrow play - Stafford, Halter, Gary is dynamic + Krueger (top libero in the class)
  • A really good terminal OH in Stafford
  • Potential to not have to start a freshman at OH, if Whitney wins the OH job over AVW, and to let AVW have time to adjust
  • Devin at OPP - experienced and a great block
  • Middles - one year older, hopefully better lateral speed to close out block, Ames fully adjusted to the speed of the college game

I think our 2025 hinges on:

  • Who replaces Erik
  • Ella back to setting like she did in 2023 (flat footed, pleaseeeee)
  • Our middles getting their shit together
  • Consistency on the pins - Stafford and Devin need to be THE starters at OH and OPP, and Whitney and AVW need to battle it out for the second OH spot, because don't be shocked if AVW beats out Whitney, who has barely played in 2 years

So I'm watching Madi play for Lovb Austin.  Is she done with school?

Probably. She may have finished in the fall - she was in her 5th year of college

Posted

The LOVB Austin team is full of longhorns. Zoe, chiaka, madi, Logan, Asjia, SKT, khat, molly mccage, Julianne faucette(!!). Stacy Sykora's an AC. I know she's an Aggie but she's always been one of my favorites.   We just lost to Houston in the 5th set.  We were up 2 sets to 0 and up 11-5 in the 5th but found a way to lose.

Next year’s squad could be really, really good. Just need the connection now. It never seemed like we got that with this year’s team.

If Ella can return to her setting from 2023, then yes. Probably our best back row with Halter, Gary and Stafford.

Yep.

Texas uses the portal - Elliot can’t develop. Trying to buy another trophy. Everything wrong with college sports

Nebraska uses the portal - amazing culture and players want to play for Cook, want to come be developed at a blue blood

sounds very aggy

Nebraska’s incoming setter as named Gatorade NPOY. If Ames hasn’t switched last minute to Texas, Nebraska would have brought in 3 of them in a row (Murray, Ames, Flynn) and 4 of the last 5 (Batenhorst in 2021)
