I swear there's a thread but Surly search sucks, so here we are...

Looks good.  Definitely leaning in on the Winter Soldier vibe.  I can also see why they had to do all those reshoots.  Kinda hits close to home with our politics today.

Looks interesting. I'll take as much Harrison Ford as I can get. A grounded on Earth, non-multiverse movie is welcomed.

They finally address the giant Celestial that is protruding out of one of our oceans.

February, huh? Not usually a good sign.

In the past yes, but the Black Panther movie did fine, and they maybe leaning into Black History month a bit, although it’s more likely because this Thanksgiving/Christmas is insanely crowded with an MCU movie already on the schedule, and two, count them two, Disney tent pole movies (a Lion King prequel and Moana sequel).  Disney ain’t going to fuck around with things.

November

  • Red One - Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans
  • Back in Action - Cameron Diaz, Glenn Close, Jamie Foxx
  • Here - Tom Hanks, Robert Zemeckis, Robin Wright
  • Gladiator II
  • Wicked
  • Spellbound - Nicole Kidman, Javier Bardem
  • Moana 2

December

  • Nightbitch - Amy Adams
  • The Return - Ralph Fiennes in an Odysseus film
  • Kraven the Hunter (MCU)
  • The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim
  • Mufasa: The Lion King
  • Spnic the Hedgehog 3

That is a horrible slate of movies.  Pure crap.

Well, original ideas don't tend to make money any longer so it's remakes, prequels, and sequels for the foreseeable future since the audience rarely supports original ideas.

“No. I’m not.” really isn’t a great line.

It might actually be more interesting looking if it wasn’t a MCU movie (isn’t Sam just a normal guy?) but I agree it looks better than expected.

Barbie and Oppenheimer were numbers 1 and 3 at the box office last year (amidst some crap) so it can be done.

Do I need to watch the series to be current with this?

If you can. It introduces at least 2 characters who are very prominent in the movie.

Interesting stuff from SDCC:

Giancarlo Esposito is playing Sidewinder, the King of Serpent Society. The Celestial is made of adamantium. Ross turns into Red Hulk while giving a speech in front of the White House. I feel that's the Leader (Tim Blake Nelson) making him change.

Whole family just got back from seeing it. We all enjoyed it. It wasn’t winter soldier, but most things aren’t. I like the kid playing the “new” falcon.

Cool movie. It took a minute to get used to not seeing Chris Evans, but I think this is going to work out well for Marvel. Enjoyed it all the way through and liked the big fight scene.

Pretty much this. A lot of fun and great characters. It’s not on the level of the other great MCU flicks. But it was really enjoyable and I needed a break from all the multiverse shit.

I enjoyed it. It's no Winter Soldier even though it followed the same formula. But it was a fun popcorn flick. My only real issue was it felt very cut up and sewn together again. Everything felt rushed and there weren't many moments to let the characters breathe. I wonder what the story was before they dropped Sidewinder into it since Giancarlo was a late addition. I think this had 5 screenwriters and it showed. The whole Ruth character was weird just because she was awkward looking. Was she 4'8"? I get she was the Widow stand-in. I love the Isaiah Bradley story and his comic was really good. I also like Sam as Cap. I said to my friend after the movie that I didn't know we were getting an Incredible Hulk sequel, interesting given they shied away from that movie for 17 years. I liked HF and I really like that he's decided to do more movies like this. I liked all the action scenes. Even the CGI shitfest final battle at the end. I wished they didn't market the Red Hulk and left that more as a surprise but I doubt they could with all the merchandising.

Feel like he needs Adamantium wings now

I've been wanting to go see a movie but there is nothing watchable out right now. I was going to go see this but the reviews are pretty shitty.

Ehh. Fuck the reviews.

Hulk couldn’t get a stand-alone movie because of the Universal Pictures rights arrangement.

I thought of it more from they only really had Ross as an original character from that movie in other things since they turned over Banner. They never really mentioned his past other than the recruitment scene in Avengers and never referenced his relationship with Ross or Betty. Abomination as a bit in a movie and show really didn't count.

“I should’ve taken the serum. Bucky was full of shit.”

That was the best part.

We caught it today for a noon matinee at the Alamo Village and I couldn’t get into it.

Spoiler

The only part that works is Ross’ motivation, and that’s heavily leaning on Harrison Ford sweating out every scene.  Mackie doesn’t have the charisma of a lead and Ford’s journey  comes at Sam’s expense.  I think you can work with that but not in a film sold as about “Captain America.”  Also didn’t like the fact he basically becomes impossibly acrobatic in the sky (it makes it seem like a video game) and the after credit scene was a total waste of time.

Spoiler

Also, I realize that 2025 real life post election shit is so bananas it reads like fiction, but ex KGB, ex Hydra assassin Bucky Barnes is running for fucking Congress?  From a storytelling perspective it’s ludicrous, moreover just why?!?!?

Also…

Spoiler

I don’t want to sound like a typical “Austin was better back when…” but the new Alamo menu kind of sucks. It’s probably a terrible time for getting into exhibitions but I wish Tim and Karrie League would open something else up.

I can't think of a comic book movie that I like that wasn't well received (I'm sure there are a couple if I went down a huge list).

In fact - there are a lot that were well received that I didn't like.

I loved Winter Soldier - didn't dig Civil War.

Well shit, I was going to wait until it hit streaming, but I'm interested now.
