Donald Trump Assassination Attempt

immamac

Recommended Posts

I agree that political violence is unacceptable.  I also believe that political violence from the right is unavoidable now.  I have several acquaintances who are full scale MAGAts who regularly post right wing violence posts on Facebook.  These slowed in the days after the assassination attempt, but never stopped.  They are too far gone in their fantasies to come back now.
If it had been President Biden instead of Trump, we would have already had Boobert, MTG, or Goetz file a bill in Congress to require mandatory marksmanship training in public schools.

Hey, how about this: I DO advocate for violence. When? In self-fucking-defense. When there’s an entire movement out there 1) actively murdering their political enemies (El Paso, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Charlottesville, etc) and they are 2) continuing to talk up how well-armed they are and what they’ll do about it, we would FUCKING INSANELY AND SUICIDALLY STUPID to not shoot back.

Here, this is just one of many such messages those types share (this one posted by an old acquaintance, service academy grad, and now full-on radicalized MAGA nutbar):

2ef32e9cf29a1a093a8c8cc6c25da84a.jpg

All of the enabling assholes who tell us “pshaw, there’s no threat of violence” ARE LYING. Not just “not paying attention,” they are actively lying. MAGA is a full-on stochastic terrorist movement. If they were doing and saying what they have done and said “in the name of Allah,” we’d have launched drone strikes long ago.
Wake. The fuck. UP.

fuck anyone on the left saying don't miss next time. more violence from the right may be inevitable win, lose or assassination but we should not condone violence, ever.

I'll be tiresome, my friend, and refer again to the paradigm shift in this contest. It's not politics which is usually tied to poiicy debate.

-Fuck anyone on the left saying don't miss next time.

What would people on the right be saying had the bullet been aimed at the worst president in history who is abusing power to persecute Donald Trump? No, I'm not saying to model our own behavior on their animalistic tendencies. I'm saying that this opponent will happily endorse harmful acts against us because they see this as a war. On us.

-Fuck anyone on the left saying don't miss next time.

Is this as a matter of politeness and not disturbing the ears of the children? Do you use "saying" to recognize that the sentiment of don't miss next time should be kept to oneself? I think there is some validity to that. Murder as a means should never be taken lightly.

If you mean to condemn the thought of wishing the thought you mention, how can one stop that? One can examine it and break it down to its root: is it childish/feral response springing from hate? Is it an option to be considered due to the threat posed to people and institutions?

-We should not condone violence, ever.

I believe this sentiment is too absolute. It's civilized. It should be the goal for any society or culture. I'm serious about that.

However, we cheer violence constantly as Americans. Our mythology is killing the bad guy. It gets us into a lot of immoral killing abroad. It's too much.

Violence against someone who means harm to my fellow citizens, means to seize unprecedented power to punish political opponents, means to keep his voters motivated by fear and hate of anyone who is not white, heterosexual, or, basically, male? Is that thought of violence really to be absolutely not considered?

There are times for violence applied in cold blood: protecting and defending something or someone important or dear.

I said about a thousand pages ago that I was honestly ambivalent about the outcome of the murder attempt. I wrote that I don't wish assassination on anyone, but that I have a sense of poetic justice. I'm less and less ambivalent.

We cannot ignore the obvious anymore. We are not facing a philosophical challenge. We are facing an irrational opponent who means us harm and destruction.

Written with respect.

Is he referring to internment camps for Hispanics? If so, fuck this guy, the bullet did this world a favor. No I wouldn’t say that irl but this is surly. Fuck this piece of trash.

No, he was referring to the Japanese “getting over” the US dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

I think we stop short of advocating violence. I want the guy to drop dead of a heart attack yesterday, I think he's a total fascist piece of shit, but I do not condone violence or threats of violence on anyone. Think about it, ordinary good people don't want to run because of threats of violence and actual violence.

fuck the guy, I could not insult him enough, but no to political violence and threats of it. just no.

decorum =/= political violence

I don't think anyone here is advocating violence, and if they did I'm sure at least a post deletion and time out (if not an outright ban) would happen.

Then again, sometimes we read some obituaries and find them deserved.

The rhetoric around condemning or advocating for political violence based on this incident is total fucking joke.

That kid didn’t shoot at Trump for anything having to do with politics. He was just a typical American dork with a gun (and a 10 inch dick apparently) and instead of shooting up a school or a mall he shot at Trump because he was there.

Mr. Comperatore's death was tragic and senseless,  but the need to lionize him by political actors is unfortunate.

He wasn't "shielding his family from gunfire" - he was merely standing, watching the rally, and unfortunately was just in the way. it was over in an instant.

i could be charitable and say that those claiming he was, is some sort of an genuine attempt to make the loss of his life not seem random and pointless, but that is not what happened.

Well no shit.

He had the same disease that affects way too many Americans - the I’m a complete loser dipshit with a gun so jm gonna go shoot shit up disease.

And yes, schools, churches, Walmarts, dennys, parades, marathons, concerts, clubs, etc etc etc. We’re all “there” all of the time.

But by all means, let’s don’t work on curbing that disease. Let’s just make it political instead.

Outstanding job as a species. Really well done.

he made a $15 donation to ActBlue when he was 17. then selected republican when he registered to vote. his classmates and teacher remember him as being 'very conservative' and he was bullied quite a bit. his family had enough gun 'markers' that they were in the Trump campaign's database for targeted messaging re: 'gun rights' for this election. his recent internet searches included both Biden and Trump's public appearance schedules and apparently stepmoms stuck in dryers.

yeah... seems like he was this country's average run of the mill angry young white man mental case with unfettered access to whatever firearm he wanted. booyah.

There has been some deeper research into how this happened, it has to do with emails spammed to a list cultivated by Mothership Strategies

Crooks may have been baited into making the donation by a spam "poll" like this

In short, it’s one of those spammy PACs that carpet bombs your inbox, delivering emails with splashy colors and wild fonts and using every trick in the book to convince people to give small amounts of money.

Crooks’s donation, the PAC told Drop Site in a statement, “came in response to an email about tuning into the inauguration.” In other words, the mere fact of his having given to this PAC on this day, based on that kind of an email, tells us very little about his politics.

I'm ambivalent about him surviving too, but my values and the values of the people I admire and respect and the values I want to see in my family, my sons, and our world are antithetical to promoting and advocating for violence. When I get to the end of my line and my loved ones are close to me, I want them to think kindness and compassion won the day along with grit, perseverance and passion for being the very best version of you you can be.

So I can't advocate violence against anyone and achieve that - and fuck any piece of shit fascist that's going to take that away from me, they already are going to take everything else from me if they can. I can, should and will control what I can control.

I struggle all the time to live my values of kindness and compassion, so this is not a look at me, even typing this I'm like shit I haven't done so good lately. But I know - sometimes on a daily basis - what it's like to be subjected to abject hate. To be direct, some hate I experience directly is here (I never ignored people on message boards until I transitioned now I have over a dozen on ignore because of hate) and most of it is out there in "real life" from people spouting absolutely vile things out their mouth about my kind of people.

To be clear though, I'm a gun owner and I have two firearms with ammunition that will blow holes right through a mother fucker that breaks into my home and threatens my life or the lives of my family. If I truly feel like my life or theirs is threatened and at risk I will shoot the perp without remorse (but with fear for my life), but that is NOT violence and I certainly don't advocate for that set of circumstances.

So fuck Trump in his goat ass. I can type for days about all the things I think about him, but advocating for his murder from a rando kid or from a political assassin just isn't something I can get behind. I can't get behind advocating for violence against the schmucks who are duped by him either. I think the insurrectionists belong in jail, Trump in jail, and I think LE should crack down on extremism but I'm not going to take up arms or advocate for the taking up of arms against others absent the need to defend oneself. I'm just not.

I do not advocate for a tame response but I might have to go dark if it gets that bad. Protecting my home and family is one thing, destroying my life by taking on power that is out to get me is just dumb.

My understanding is we learn more about a lot of stuff on Monday. In all fairness, I just think he doesn’t want people to know how much he weighs so…that’s maybe the issue. I sincerely hope the hearing on Monday helps to clear up some stuff.
