Im still not over losing Darnell McDonald

Was that a Mackovic or Mack recruit, I can't remember.  I know he ended up in the show finally in around 30 and bounced around a half-dozen clubs doing very little.  What position was he gonna play at UT?

The Orioles' second pick tonight, No. 32 overall, was University of Virginia shortstop Griff O'Ferrall. The O's got the No. 32 pick as a Prospect Promotion Incentive pick when Gunnar Henderson was named Rookie of the Year in the American League last November.

A RH bat, O'Ferrall hit .324/.367/.454/.821 with 20 doubles, one triple, five homers, 64 runs, 17 steals and 52 RBIs in 63 games.

He is ranked as the draft's No. 38 prospect via MLBPipeline.com. That outlet gives O'Ferrall 55 tool grades for hit tool, running and arm, a 40 for power and 50 for fielding.

O'Ferrall, age 21, is from Richmond, Va. and played for Team USA last summer.  Said MLB analyst Dan O'Dowd: "Scouts could make a pretty good argument he's the best defensive shortstop in college baseball this year. High contact hitter. Not a ton of power. He has tremendous speed. But this guy is a premium, premium defensive shortstop."

Theo is a good kid who Lil’ Nigel has played against for about 7 years.  His interview is good insight into how different the MLB draft is compared to the NFL.  HS players are not drafted unless a deal is cut.  The teams know the player’s number and if the team meets it, they will be drafted.

Saw a draft analysis that said he would have went higher but for injury concerns.  Seems susceptible ?   Report said lumbar injury last year or before and groin injury this year ?

Do you have any insight ?    Working with MLB/minor league trainers may eliminate those concerns.

As you state,  seems to be a great person.   Wish him well.

Shoulder surgery as a sophomore put him out for 12 months.  Groin as a JR.  he was healthy this year.  He is simply projectable.  6’2” 190 as a high schooler.  He has the build they want and is a good player.

In baseball, (even more so than football that I can tell) if you have the size, you get to prove that you CAN’T play.  If you are smaller, you have to prove that you CAN.

During lil’ Nigel’s recruitment in both, we sensed that size was a more important factor in baseball overall.  Football cares about speed a lot more.

Any other college get hit this hard so far in the draft?

We always have players that are committed (signees), but get taken high up in the draft. Especially pitchers.

Pretty sure the 3 highs schoolers were not realistically expected to make it on campus...Jared (and Jalin) were both going to be iffy on returning.

Part of the game.

Schloss and co. have been active in the portal and recruiting to have taken in account for those above not being available for '25.

I'm more worried about a couple that are still here right now. That they make it through today and tomorrow (later rounds) and get to campus.

Note that the other thread indicates that Jalin Flores is coming back.  I saw that on another forum too.  Great news.

When my brother was drafted in 2011, the only thing he could negotiate was "window or aisle". Not sure what Witt can expect in the 14th round, but a 20th rd. pick back then got a plane ticket to the complex in Phoenix and a roster spot in the Northwest Rookie league.

Take home was about $1100 a month, 50% of which went to the host family. Big baller lifestyle.
