First two paragraphs from the top story on my news feed this morning “Tim Walz Military Record Under Scrutiny”

They are trying to learn hard into this angle because it’s all they’ve got.

Couch fucker being an Iraq war veteran is a technically true, but dig deep and his job was to escort journalists. He was NOWHERE near the front lines.

In further celebration of all that is awesome about Minnesota, today’s recipe.

You make a STUFFING SHELL.

None of these recipes include salt and pepper, not even “to taste.” Love Minnesota but damn get some flavor in there!

I'm not claiming they're lying or even partisan. They're incompetent and not doing their part in the democracy. At least, TV news media. The example here is them quoting GOP lies without identifying them as such. They're a quote service who will now seek the other quote to make it "balanced."

They'll also have several panels discuss whether this will hurt Walz whether the claims are true or not. It's their template for everything and why they have destroyed themselves as newspeople.

JD Vance says X about Walz. Walz spokesperson says the statement is false. Now let's talk about how this may affect the polls and the race.

It's a fucking nightmare.

Yeah, very, very different. They claim everything is fake news, the problem we're discussing is framing, and treating trump and friends as ordinary politicians. Like headline "Vance Questions Walz's Military Service" or "Vance Accuses Walz of Stolen Value." Maybe that flies in 2016, but the facts of how they campaign are now clearly established. Should read "Vance Lies About Walz Military Service" or "Vance Falsely Accuses Walz of Stolen Valor."

Sometimes we get an appropriate headline:

This needs to be done more often. Unfortunately, the same news organization will oscillate between multiple headlines for the same article with others being of the bullshit misleading variety.

Walz should quote straight from Hillbilly Elegy, “like J.D. Vance, my military service was transformational. Which makes his alliance with Donald Trump an even bigger indictment of his lack of character and absence of principals. I ask you directly, J.D., when did you decide to sell your soul to the devil?”

“Are you following orders from convicted felon Donald Trump like you learned to follow orders in the marine corps?”

The different variations of headlines designed to determine which engage enrage readers more, driving more "engagement".  Objectively informing people is no longer the primary goal.  And yes, I am well aware that some play this game far more than others.

100%. One side (Trump's goons) is not acting in good faith. TV media has always been less substantive than print. Murdoch created a Pravda-esque hate machine at Fox and we're seeing 30+ years of metasticized brain rot. TV news is first-and-foremost a chase for ad dollars. Doing good journalism is a distant second at outlets like CNN. It doesn't even crack the Top 10 at Fox or OAN or NewsMax. Forget the even shittier outlets.

I'm not melting down! You're melting down! Nasty woman.

ETA: I quoted a CNN online headline in the last few weeks that was similarly straightforward. They need to put that person in charge of the whole shootin' match.

Sargeant Major Walz should tell Corporal Vance to clean the barracks and shut up and give him 200! After that, put him on KP to peal these 2 barrels of onions.

I know that was a joke, but neither of them was a commissioned officer, so no saluting.

I didn’t think so given my experience watching MASH. But I wanted to make the joke and Google’s generative AI provided me with the misinformation necessary to make it possible:

”Yes, enlisted personnel in the US military, such as corporals, are expected to salute all officers, including sergeants, as a sign of respect and recognition.”

Most NCO's consider it an insult if you salute them.

"Don't salute me son, I work for a living" is the standard line.
