I’m pretty sure the Iron Maiden pinball machine is the coolest thing ever

I guess this is the Iron Maiden thread.

Fun show last night.

This last picture is of what was more or less a bottlerocket fight between Bruce and a giant Eddie.

I'm going to see them in Santiago, Chile next month and may catch them again in Buenos Aires a few nights later.

I was in Santiago on a study abroad program back in the late '90s and happened to be there at the same time as Iron Maiden, and it was a Big Fucking Deal. I wasn't able to catch any of the shows, but it felt like Beatlemania or some shit with how excited the populace was. It made me want to catch them in South America someday - have fun, and be prepared for a crowd scene beyond your normal expectations.

Its their 50th anniversary. They are starting their 50th anniversary "Run for Your Lives" tour in Europe in a couple months. I'm planning to catch the July 5 show in Madrid. I just saw them at the end of the Futures Past tour in Santiago in November. That was insane.

The European leg ends in early August and I was hoping they would be announcing North America as the next leg, but Bruce just announced a solo tour in Sept & Oct, so that looks doubtful.

At the end of the Santiago show he said they'd be back in 2 years w the Run for your Lives, so expect that to be a long running one.

Somebody once told me that Maiden is the Grateful Dead of Metal, and it's hard to argue.

Rock and Roll pinball machines don't work good here in the bar because of the jukebox. We currently have The Munsters and it's set to play super fast. Challenging machine.

Pinball machine released in the early 90's, and an absolute all-timer.  I played the shit out of this, and would buy one if I had an extra 10-15k lying around.

It’s crazy to me how popular they still are. In the late 80s, I was obsessed with Maiden. But literally no one else I knew listened to them. I figured their glory days were well behind them.

Which, in a sense, was correct: they were pretty much done writing and recording top notch music by that point. Seventh Son (and arguably, Somewhere in Time) was the last classic Maiden album and almost everything since then has been crap. But they’ve grown into a massive live act and cultural phenomenon in the ensuing decades.

This is a common misnomer. The song Fear of the Dark has become the much anticipated highlight of the live show for the last couple decades, even if that album was the beginning of a dull period. They spent the 90's forgotten and trying to find their place and there are duds in there, but they came back in 2000 with a great album, Brave New World, which put them back on the map and they've produced several good albums since then.

Their live show in incredible. I was not excited for the last tour because they were focusing on songs that they hadn't played live before. I was thinking their's a reason for that, they are your worste song. Man was i wrong, that was onenof through best Maiden shows I've seen and I've seen my share. When you can do that with your worst material, that was impressive.

And ill never tire of watching and listening to Dave Murray play. He would get a lot more attention as a player if he wasn't in a band with 2 other nearly as capable guitarists.

I know “Fear of the Dark” and “Wickerman” are crowdpleasers. But those albums are not remotely up to the level of Iron Maiden, Killers, Piece of Mind, Powerslave, or Somewhere in Time. I was still in my Maiden phase when Fear of the Dark released. It was better than No Prayer for the Dying, but just barely. Those two tapes got minimal play from me from the jump.

Every band peters out at some point. Maiden had a long hot streak in the studio and I’m glad they’re still touring (and playing a heavy rotation of their classics).

To me they've still never topped their debut album, but I'm in the minority. I'm just saying since 2000 they've produced some pretty good music for anybody willing to pull their head out of the 80's. The 80's obviously were their hey day, but don't sleep on some of the later stuff.

Book of Souls was another good one. I'm still coming to terms with Senjutsu. It has some good tracks, but a lot of it sounds like a movie soundtrack. Both those tours were incredible.

@thunderlounge should chime in here. He's the biggest Maiden fan i know. I caught up with him for a show in Chicago several years ago.
