Glenn to the Jets. Jerry's personality has literally placed the team below NYJ and the Bears in attractiveness to rising head coaches. Next will be CLE. It's gonna be Shotty. Even Moore is probably too smart to work for that asshole.

I wouldn't even say that...the simple fact is that Jerry was NEVER going to hire either of them, nor probably even interview them.

Jerry has been a bad owner for a while but at least he used to be a fun bad owner making splash moves. Now his coaching hires are boring retreads or in-house names, his drafts are a bunch of linemen and defenders, he's quiet in free agency...snoooooze

If he did this and could actually put together dominant lines, it wouldn’t be that bad.

But he’s an Arky landman trying to build an NFL roster….and he sucks ass at it.

I have zero expectations for this coaching hire. Less than zero, in fact. My interest in the Cowboys is at an all time low point in my entire life thus far. Yet somehow, against all odds, Jerry has achieved the impossible and still managed to underwhelm me with this Schottenheimer business. It simply can't possibly be real. My brain cannot comprehend it. The only thing that makes any goddamn sense whatsoever is that it's a smokescreen for hiring Kellen Moore.

I am beyond giving a shit.  Been a fan since 64, back when we’d drive to my grandmothers in Groesbeck to watch on TV due to local blackouts.  Jerry’s actions this year have totally killed all my fucks about them.  I’ve been a season tix holder, and negotiated a suite for my company in AT&T. Fuck it.

going forward I’ll just hate watch this circus like I do reality shows like married at first sight or below deck.

Even though he had a year to prepare Mike leaving seems to have thrown his ass.  He is addicted to movie stories.  It’s why he wanted to draft Johnny fucking Foitball.  Signed Deion.  Drafted broken Jaylon Smith.  And somehow sees Jason Witten as the next Dan Campbell.  It goes to his career if a feast or famine o&g guy.

is it a great job.  Not anymore.  Jerry has taken the legacy of the team and squandered it.  Coaches don’t care.  Not when there’s millions of $ to make.  Not when there’s better opportunities with better less intrusive GMs.  He’s a red flag.  Better cap situations.  No Dak and stupid contract. More salary.  No Witten being forced on you.  No Dallas media shit.  Jerry hasn’t figured it out.  This should be the job every great coach wants.  But they don’t anymore.

I wonder what’s worse?  Being a fan of a team like the Cowboys that has unlimited resources and a rich history of winning but has fallen to the point you describe, or a fan (like me) of a team like the Lions that has never even made the Super Bowl and has been inept for nearly all of my adult life?

I’ll never know, but maybe the Cowboys because you know for a fact it can be done if not for the borderline insane owner.  Obviously tremendously frustrating because you’ve seen it work before.

I doubt I could ever switch allegiance.  I simply no longer have an allegiance.  The NFL still entertains me but 100% of my emotional investment is in the Horns.

This is me as well. I haven’t had any emotional investment in the Cowboys since the Parcells days. There was hope then.

Signing Deion helped Dallas win in 95.

Dallas is a joke now though. Not a serious franchise at all.

Nobody wants McCarthy. Except maybe Jerry?

I would rather have him back and replace Schottenheimer than hire Schottenheimer as HC. But maybe he wouldn't be as shitty an HC as OC.

The cap-raping GM in New Orleans, anointed for life by the now dead owner, may need a new yes man like retread McCarthy on the sideline.

I've gone from a decade plus season ticket holder to rarely watching the NFL. I maybe catch 2-3 games per year including the Super Bowl. I find it so inferior to college football that I would rather use Sunday to catch up on non-football crap.

I have been saying for years that Jerry turned the Cowboys into the Lions. Based on the Lions recent success the Cowboys have replaced the Lions. You are frustrated because your team is finally showing signs of life. Many of us have been apathetic since Dave Campo was hired. I became a fan as a kid when I was watching Super Bowl X.

Exact opposite.  I barely can watch non UT college football.  NFL is way better, imo.   That being said the horns take precedent overall, I don't lose any sleep if I miss any NFL games, but it's a better product overall.

I legit did not know we had an OC much less a Schottenheimer. I thought Mike called all the plays. Sounds like a perfect HC hire for Jerry. Probably sees the last name and pops a floppy old viagra semi.

When his name came up this week, I wondered where he'd be coming from. I had ZERO idea he was the Cowboys' current OC and I watched just about every game this season.

Schotty with Witten on staff would be punting on 2 coaching hires at once.

You know Jerry sees former Cowboys TE killing it in Dan Campbell and wants to recreate the same thing in Dallas with Witten.

I know there are some out there who will be fine with Schottenheimer because they are the same people who paint their faces and wear dumb Cowboys outfits to the games every week. To anyone not blinded by the sun rays at JerryWorld, I don't see how this can be exciting in the least. A 2 person coaching search, with one of the candidates being someone absolutely no one else wanted.

After quitting fantasy football (so no gambling aspect) I've barely watched any regular season NFL over past 3 years.  But I'll watch college football all day Saturday when free (and not attending a Texas game).  As one way or another a lot of the games indirectly impact Texas so you can find a rooting interest, and even those that don't, because of the fact that it's not a 'better product,' we are much more likely to get crazy endings, comebacks, etc.  Now I'll watch the NFL playoffs because I do still enjoy really good football with something on the line.  But I don't have any rooting interest and NFL fans are largely complete fucking losers (so in that sense I enjoy watching just about every team lose), so absent a good 4th quarter game when I happen to be flipping channels on a regular season Sunday, or absent flipping on a game and seeing a former Texas player playing and watching for that sole aspect, I just have better things to do (particularly after usually watching a ton of football on Saturday).

Campbell is 2-2 in the playoffs with the Lions.

Monkey Butt was 1-3 in the playoffs with the Cowboys.

This made me have to go look at playoff coaching records. I knew Marty Schottenheimer had a tough time in the playoffs, but 5-13 is worse than I'd have thought. Campbell is .500, just like Ditka, Gruden, Carroll, and a host of others. The .500 coaches are bookended by Shula at .528 and Dungy at 4.74.

Mora was 0-6. Beaten only by Marvin Lewis' at 0-7.

I’ll give you an example of unfortunate fandom. Wife and I moved to Lake Charles, for her job, prior to the ‘96 Football season. The local Fox Channel covered both the Beaumont(TX) and Lake Charles(LA) markets, based in Lake Charles. If there was a “conflict” of Saints and Cowboys playing their games in the same 12 or 3 window, the local Saints fans were forced to go to the LC Civic Center to watch the “free” telecast or find a place/sports bar with satellite telecast for the Saints.

This situation lasted for at least two seasons before better cable/online access occurred so one could watch the Saints at their home.

I'm fine with Pete even if the game may have passed him by. At least he has skins.

Yeah, I don't like him, but he seems to at least put good solid teams on the field. Seems like they would have interviewed him by now if there was interest, though.

I hope they interview some more candidates. I'm not a fan at all of Schottenheimer because of his total lack of creativity as OC, even though McCarthy called plays. The offense seems really stale. On the bright side, he might at least prove to be a better game manager than Mike, wouldn't be a shocker. So it could be worse, especially with a short term deal that Jerry likely wants. It also might keep the better part of the defensive coaching staff in place. Maybe he would bring in some younger offensive coaching talent to help out.

I hope they're still looking and making calls and interviews. They can do better. Even Wes Phillips would be worth a look, if he can bring anything like the Vikings offensive look and help the qbs get easier targets and spread the ball around, and beef up the running game.

I have to be a Cowboys fan. My great grandmother never missed a game. My dad is diehard. I was in HS while we won 3 super bowls. Loved Troy and how Romo brought us back to hope. I wanted Romo to win it all really bad just to quiet the haters. But Jerry plays whack a mole with the roster and is always 4 years too late on NFL trends.

My kids have to be Cowboys fans because I’ve already told them that they have to and AT&T is the only pro football stadium they’ve ever been to. My daughter thinks Dak sucks, CeeDee is average, but or defense is solid. They get it.

All that said, it’s background noise at our house on Sundays. The only emotional involvement is for the Horns.

I posted here before that in my experiences with Jerry, I came away thinking he cared deeply but had no idea how to get there. I now question whether he cares or maybe even really knows what is happening.

I'm so fucking done with this front office and Jerry.  I was always in the "let Dak walk" camp...not because he sucks, but because I wanted him gone from this dumb place.

I told someone I know that likes Dak that if he signed with the Cowboys he was not serious about ever wanting a championship and was complacent with the money.

Supposedly Stephen and idiot Junior are pushing Daddy to hire Schottenheimer but Jerry wants to look at other option. Sweet Christ, does Stephen think they're going to blow through the billion dollars before his lifetime is over? It's generational fucking wealth that will be passed on. Think how much more the franchise would be worth if it won actually something.

Salet is now supposedly going to be the Niners DC. I guess the HC interviews didn't go so well.

Surely, Jerry wants to interview Joe Brady when he's available?

I’m sure the interview didn’t go well for him after hearing the bullshit he’d have to put up with from the Cowboys after just doing similar with the Jets
