The only hope I hold out about Stephen taking over is he may be one who can be shamed into doing the right thing when Daddy passes away. Jerry gets a lot of rope because of who he is and what he's done. Maybe we're at the point where that might run out soon especially with this hire. I don't see anyone giving Stephen any grace period if he takes over and tries to be Jerry 2.0. But then again when you have fuck you money and the fan base seems incapable of throwing in the towel, what can really be done but just stop bothering to watch. I passively watch now. I don't let it run my Sundays like I used to. I turn it on and have it in the background. It doesn't really bother me when they lose because I hope it takes away a little bit of Jerry's soul every time. He would have to have one for that to matter. The more he fails, the farther away he gets from being "a football man" that he so desires to be taken seriously as so he tightens his grip even more. What would help is if his former players would stop treating every action he does as okay. Even Troy takes a kid gloves approach with his criticism of Jerry. The man is not above reproach and it would be great if loudmouths like Irvin would say something.

I have a strong suspicion that you are seeing Stephen run the show right now.  That's why the constant "pieces of pie" and "sound decisions" and "up against the cap" crap we keep hearing about.  Jerry almost certainly wanted Deion.  Stephen has wrestled control away from Dad and put the 'Boys on auto-cash print pilot.

You're probably correct. I still stand by assertion that once Jerry is no longer with us, people aren't cutting Stephen the break that Jerry's gotten because of his past success.

Ugh, I will always complain about the "cap" conversation. It's Enron accounting, it's never stopped any franchise from doing whatever they want with their roster. If anything, Jerry might get some credit for how it is set up financially considering his influence over the years in league finances.

I could see Steven becoming a laughing stock real fast.

Yep. Despite what fans think of Jerry, I believe the vast majority of players, former and current, like and/or at least respect Jerry. You can see it in his interactions in the old Hard Knocks and the more recent Cowboys season of All or Nothing. He’s charismatic with them and I can imagine they admire his story of becoming wealthy starting from where he did. Almost none of that applies to Stephen.

Agreed, 'stache. His strength was being a DC.

According to the interwebs...

2018 IND: 9th

2019 IND: 17th

2020 IND: 9th

2021 IND: 13th

2023 Weeks 2-18 Chicago: 13th

2024 Weeks 1-13 Chicago: 9th

When he was HC but someone else called plays:

2022: 32nd

2023 week 1: 28th

2024 weeks 14-18: 27th

I can tell you that there have been two defensive coaches who have given the current high-flying offense of my Lions consistent trouble:  Eberflus and Todd Bowles.  I think Flus would be a really solid hire for the Cowboys given the uncertainty surrounding the abilities of the HC.

I hit on Jimmy and will never do it again...

We also have no single bargaining chip remotely approaching Hershel Walker's roster capital/ value.

Air quoting championship game as if it is some sort of narrative and not a fact that they haven’t been to one in 30 years is part of the reason I am a full on Bears fan now. Imagine crushing someone’s soul so badly you drive them to the Bears. Well done, Jerry. Well done.

Has anybody seen that white Yoda that looks like Jerry Jones?  I hear it's good.

Yes. See my post at the top of this page.

Game respects game. The players respect Jones’ ability to get out of the house and chase strange at an advanced age. That’s all.

Parsons is the only player who could likely bring 2 ones.  At last a 1 and 3.  Some players have to be the dudes that bring a return in draft capital over infield performance.

Jerry really exposed his motives in the presser.  This is his third hire of the son of an nfl coach: Wade, Garrett and Brian.  His statement basically solidified his handoff to Stephen.  He also was a son who was in his father’s business.

If he had a son after the last Cowboys Super Bowl, and that is a distinct possibility, his 29th birthday would be today.  It has also been 29 years since the Cowboys won a Divisional Round Playoff game.

Fuck you Jerry.

8 nfc championship games
4 super bowls

For the Eagles since Dallas last played in the conference championship. Crazy.

Don't forget the Giants have also played in 3 Super Bowls since then (winning 2 of course), and between our other 2 main NFC rivals, there's another 5  Super Bowls and 1 win.

Face it... the Cowboys are no longer relevant

Doesn't Eberflus have a decent reputation as a defensive coordinator? Some guys just aren't meant to be in charge.

Yeah guys like Wade Phillips were the same.

He's the one solid pick up so far...we'll see how the staff fills out.

The NFL is a cesspool of incestuous mediocrity.

What is it with so many head coaches insisting on calling their own plays? I know it's always been around but seems way more prevalent these days (could be perception I suppose based on teams I know more about). Be a head coach and hire a coordiator you trust to call plays. Has Schottenheimer officially said that he's going to call plays? That wasn't part of his OC duties previously, right?

Andy Reid, McVay, and Shanahan are the 3 best at it and they are generally the exception....

I'd bet Shotty is calling plays because Jerry doesn't want to pay for an OC.

Yes, JJ said he was gathering interest from other teams to be an OC with play calling duties so letting him call plays was part of his plan to keep him here.

https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/brian-schottenheimer-will-call-the-offensive-plays-for-the-cowboys

That said, I'm sure the upgrade to HC would've been enough to keep him here as well.

I hope they tank for Arch and that the Mannings tell them to go fuck themselves. Seriously. When Stephen calls just fart into the phone and hang up.
