This feels like elder abuse. Other GM’s are calling up with phishing scams trying to fleece a clueless old man out of his savings.

Jerry got concerned about his vehicle warranty?

I get that he hasn’t been productive at all, and that a 4th seems like an astronomical price for 12 catches in 8 games.  but he’s got undeniable physical gifts and this was all about controlling him for two more years after this one at an affordable price.  yeah still paid too much and yeah jerry has been laughably incompetent since the day after he inked jimmy johnson to a contract in 1989, but all these comparisons to other trades are for a lot of guys with expiring contracts which are understandably worth less.

lol, just read about the Mingo trade. There wasn’t a team in the league that would have offered anything more than a ham sandwich for him. Jerry has completely lost the plot.

He was most likely going to cut this offseason.  Jerrah literally could have gotten him for a 7th rounder in the offseason or less and this fucking old ball sack moron trades away a 4th rounder.  If this doesn't say dumbest fucking guy or organization in the league, then folks must not be paying attention.  When you laugh at the Raiders or Cardinals for being perpetual dumbasses..... remember, we're in the same boat.

I don't get it... his fast momentum was too much and prevented him from stopping and dragging his feet out of bounds?

He should have slowed down heading towards the sideline's though.

I think it was the lack of body control he exercised.  I think they need to put Mingo in the slot and have him as a big slot like he was used in college and Atlanta had to shift Drake London to, where he's now thriving.  Mingo's route running is really bad and he's really raw, even with almost 2 years under his belt.  This was such a bad transaction but now that you're invested, you have to do everything you can to try and milk some value out of him and that's putting him the best circumstances to succeed.

I'm pretty OK with the Mingo trade if it were for one of their 5s, but a 4 is just too decent odds for a quality pick at certain less sexy positions that the Cowboys really need. They minimized their draft in a draft year that they need to add a lot of pieces that can play early. It's a huge wait from a top third 4 to a late fifth where it becomes more like throwing darts at a board. You go from a possible good prospect that fell a round due to just supply and demand at his position, to more likely a guy that is a project. I wouldn't have offered the 4.

That said, I like the tools Mingo brings. Maybe a new coaching staff will be much better at developing receivers and utilizing talent.

Cowboys say they are getting a 2 for the price of a 4, but that's bullshit. A 2 comes with a four year contract and a reasonable salary, not one that is half burned up. And Mingo was rated more of a 3rd or 4th rounder.

No coach with any other options is taking the Cowboys job.  It will be another washed up, shitty coach.

Well, they had a 3rd round grade on him in the draft, so that's even dumber...... and a pretty transparent form for motivated reasoning.  They thought they made some big boss move and when it was lambasted by everyone and their dog, they get to defending their ineptitude... poorly, which I may add, like everything else this front office does.

So now they have 2 second rounders from 2023.  Let's check on how the other is doing for Dallas.....

Oh..... what a contributor!!!  So glad we took a TE when we didn't need one!  In the fucking 2nd round.

McCarthy never met Mingo, but he was one of their in-house pre-draft visit prospects. Weird...

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott's initial diagnosis says hamstring tendon partially tore off bone

Dak Prescott's hamstring injury could potentially keep him on the shelf for longer than initially hoped.

Prescott's initial diagnosis is that his hamstring tendon partially tore off the bone, which is known as a partial avulsion, NFL Network's Jane Slater reported on Wednesday.

The recovery timeline for such an injury generally is more than four weeks, per Slater. Prescott currently is seeking additional opinions on his injury, Slater added.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday that Prescott was likely headed to injured reserve, which would sideline him a minimum of four weeks.

Cooper Rush is set to start for Dallas on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, but if Prescott misses more than a month, it will be worth monitoring to see if Trey Lance, No. 3 on the depth chart, gets some run.

Prescott, who agreed to a four-year, $240 million extension this season, has completed 64.7% of his passes for 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions this season.

Dallas (3-5) hosts Philadelphia (6-2) at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.

I’ve never seen this strategery of using draft grades over actual league tape to determine value.  They did same with Lance.  Look how much Niners spent on him!  This kid is nuke laloosh.  Great physical gifts, runs routes like Otis stumbling to the Mayberry jail.  In his mind they are merely suggestions.

Cowboys 2023 draft is really turning out to be one for the ages

  • 1st round: total bust
  • 2nd round: total bust
  • 3rd round: injured entire first year, but promising in year 2
  • 4th round: not in the NFL anymore
  • 5th round: depth guy
  • 6th round #1: cut after year 1 never having played a single snap for the Cowboys. On another team's practice squad now.
  • 6th round #2: still on the roster but not really a useful NFL player
  • 7th round: 13 career receptions. Cowboys just traded for a guy to take his spot on the depth chart.

So one useful player, two high profile busts, and a couple practice squad/fringe roster types.

That 2023 draft was abysmal for Dallas.

Picked a random, well-run organization to asses their 2023 draft: Pittsburgh

1: Broderick Jones, OT, Georgia; Starting RT (struggles at times)
2: Joey Porter, Jr, CB, Penn St; Starting CB
2: Keeanu Benton, NT, Wisconsin; Starting NT
3: Darnell Washington, TE, Georgia; TE2, strong blocker, plays a ton in 12 personnel.
4: Nick Herbig, LB, Wisconsin; WLB2 - backs up Watt
7: Corey Trice, CB, Purdue; on Roster - IR
7: Spencer Anderson, OL, Maryland; on roster - backup G

100% of that draft is on the team.  And this team is 6-2.

Never would I ever stand up for Jerry and am not doing so here but I think you could go through every franchise and find some good draft years and bad draft years. Our talent level is usually fine overall but could obviously be better. My guess is Jerry is below average though on a year to year basis. His bigger problem is his coaching hires which are all terrible because of his shit personality that makes him toxic to good coaches with options.

You just wait until he uses a 1st-round pick on Johntay Cook...

the Johnny Walker Blue must have been flowing during the draft that year

They couldn't be bothered to spell Overshown correctly? Honestly though he was wildly inconsistent in his time here.  I didn't think he'd be a consistent contributor on Sundays.

He's been inconsistent with the Cowboys so far, but he's basically a rookie still, and his speed jumps off the screen.

Why wouldn’t you start Lance?

I think because Cooper Rush has proven that he's capable of winning games.  The Cowboys actually have a pretty decent chance of improving now that their 231-million-dollar mistake can't hurt us anymore.  The wild-card, and even the division, are not out of reach.  We're not even halfway through the season.
