UCLA's return to dominance featuring DeShaun Foster

At the time he looked like a desperation hire and this press conference reinforces that. UCLA has the potential to be a top ten program and this is the best they can do?

Holy shit DeShaun, gotta prepare 😂😂😂😂

Good luck @Sbbruin

I was waiting for him to say he finally beat Medicare.  Wow that was rough.  But at least he's out there recruiting at twice the clip Chipster was.

So you are saying vandy and New Mexico State also has the potential to be a top 10 program? No idea where you are going with ucla has the potential to be a top 10 program other than softball and swimming.

UCLA is a great large public university in a recruiting hotbed with great weather and a million things to do and you're comparing them to New Mexico State? Is this a joke? USC has all these pluses (except they're a huge private school) and that's why they have historically had one of the best programs. I don't see why UCLA can't be successful like USC.

UCLA doesnt care as much about football as USC historically.  A lot of it does have to do with a million things to do out there.

  • immamac changed the title to UCLA's return to dominance featuring DeShaun Foster

There are no interviews of him posted on youtube from his playing days at least none that I could find. He is sweating and crying in his introductory press conference. Maybe just standard fare and he needs some talking to the press coaching.

“Return to Dominance”

UCLA last dominated in the ‘50s. They won a MNC while coached by Red Sandwrs, who they hired from Vanderbilt. A southerner, he created some controversy when he dropped the n-bomb during a booster talk (controversial in LA, wouldn’t have been controversial in Nashville).

Sanders installed the single wing and made a winner. He died of a heart attack, in a cheap downtown LA hotel room, banging a hooker.

They really ought to put a statue up.

Maybe a return to uniform dominance? Their old unis were pretty sweet, maybe with Adidas gone they can return to that standard.

We've been saying this for decades, but it doesn't come to fruition.  Chip set this program back with his utter disdain for recruiting.  Foster is inheriting a very depleted roster.  And now we have to compete in the NIL arena with other B!G schools.  That is where we will fall short.  The real BMD's at UCLA don't donate to athletics.  They donate to the medical school/hospital, or to academia.  The basketball program is doing fairly well in the NIL space.  But football is way behind.  If we were to have success on the field, the fans would flock back, and the money would follow, but it needs to happen the other way around.  Success will come after the NIL flows in, not the other way around.

Surprised he didn't sketch out a map of UCLA, USC and the Rose Bowl.

I mean, how does he expect the members of the Big 10 to know where LA and Pasadena are?

Not everyone was a geography major.

Man deserves a god damn fly over prior to every UCLA home game.

Dear Deshaun... since you made President Biden  appear as if he were a silver tongued devil (NO CLOAK ROOM... NO CLOAK ROOM), I'm just gonna off the top of my head, type up your speech for you.

It is with great optimism and  enthusiasm that we embrace the many challenges of being in one of the most dynamic conferences, the Big 10. UCLA football has a long and proud history. Some of our legends include ... Jackie Robinson (yes.. THAT Jackie Robinson), Billy Kilmer, Heisman winner, Gary Beban, Randy Cross, Kenny Easley, Freeman Mcneil, Jonathan Ogden and of course, Troy Aikman. We are proud to call one of the most honored, respected stadiums in the world our home field.

The Big 10 will offer new challenges, greater demands for athletic excellence and we are prepared to meet those higher demands and expectations.

Christ Almighty.. it's not that difficult.

There's 66 reasons UCLA has a lot of potential and 3 negatives.

Wasn't it an old football coach, maybe Red Sanders, who said "potential ain't nothin' but a fancy French word that means you ain't worth a shit now, but you might be someday"?

mdleast and I are planning to attend USC-UCLA at the Rose Bowl this year. I fear it will an incredibly mediocre game but the Rose Bowl is nice.

A classic Big 10 November rivalry game. It'll be a great trip, but you'll need to pack a large coat and some thermal underwear, because you're gonna freeze your balls off.

Look, I'll call it like I see it. There are a lot more "honorable" posters here that have aspirations to be surrounded by their wife and children during their dying days.

And I applaud them for that aspect of their wants in life.

I'm not like them. If at 80+ I pass with a legit 10 prostitute at the Waldorf in Vegas while pumped up on coke and Viagra... it was a damn good run, because that means at 80+ I still had enough money, energy and drive book and take the flight, pay for the Waldorf,  find and finance a top quality sex worker, acquire some quality cocaine and indulge. I'm not supporting nor condoning sex work, drug use nor Vegas... I'm just sayin'.

The thing that's a bummer is the fanbase is so beaten down that I don't think 6 wins (which would be a massive overperformance and  probably absolute best case scenario in my opinion) would get any traction. I just don't see any way Foster can get the momentum to turn things around. The roster after next year is sickening and it's already in terrible shape this year. Chip Kelly would commit seppuku if he had a shred of decency.

I have a UCLA <5.5 win totals bet. LSU, Oregon, Penn St, USC, Nebraska, Iowa are all guaranteed to likely losses and they don't play a single other game where they're not in peril. That's not good. We're looking at 3-9 with the wrong breaks.

Chip's disinterest in HS recruiting, the late departure to Ohio State (February!) and the loss of D'Anton Lynn are fatal to a team that was in rebuild anyway. Foster may also be special, so a guy like Schiano at Rutgers will just out coach him and game manage a win.

That's basically free money. Hawaii and Indiana are the only games where I think UCLA is a certified favorite (potentially Minnesota if their QB busts) and I wouldn't be surprised by the new Indiana staff coaching circles around Foster. WR and LB are the only position groups that have both talent and depth. Safety, interior DL and RB might be passable at the P4 level and I guess Garbers could be decent? The other position groups are either utterly disastrous or one injury away from utter disaster.

There is genuinely no way to undersell the extent to which Chip Kelly burned the program down on his way out. He tossed a live grenade to Foster and waddled his fat ass out of there.
