Texas Women’s Basketball 2024-2025 - We SEC Ready

As an extremely casual follower of women's basketball, who are the favorites in the conference?  Besides South Carolina.  I assume LSU will continue to be be tough under Kim Mulkey.  I know Tennessee hired a new coach and is trying to get back to being the Tennessee of old.  Who else is expected to challenge South Carolina?

SC, Texas, LSU, OU will likely be the top 4

Yeah, @ OU and @ aggy sucks, but we do host Tenn, LSU and SC

I see 13-3 or 12-4 there.  @ SC will be a loss, we will likely split @OU/aggy, and hard to see us winning both SC/LSU at home.  Maybe drop one elsewhere (@ Ole Miss or @ Georgia maybe)

Feels like everything is setting up for next year to win a title. We have a shot this year but next year's roster could be insanely loaded.

If there was ever a time to buy a recruit it would be now with Chavez. Harmon, Booker, and Chavez would be so sick together.

Don’t sleep on Jordan Lee. She’s incredibly good.

Definitely, but I see Lee as more of a PG mold similar to Rori.

That's why I think Chavez is a perfect fit next year with this roster. She's more of a 2 guard/scorer. Add a scorer around 2 playmakers at PG (Rori) and SF (Booker) and it's a perfect fit.

Jordan is more of a 2 or a 3 than a point guard. Maybe you're thinking of Bryanna Preston?

I don’t have high hopes for Chavez. Tre Young’s dad is heavily involved $$ wise for OU. I think she will thrive in that wide open offense with no defense.

Maybe but one of the big misconceptions with Chavez is she's only an offensive player.

She's a really good defender and averaged like 3 steals a game at the EYBL (against the best recruits in the country). I think she wants to play in an open offense but she's not the type to buy into "we don't play much defense in this system" type mentality.

People see all the scoring clips but Chavez is the type to get in your face and bully you on the defensive end. I don't think the no defense angle will work with her at all.

I think the big question with Chavez now is how much is she worth and what's the value in terms of ROI?

We already have the #4 recruit (Crump) and are right in the mix for the #8 recruit (Knox). The #16 recruit (Davis) is also apparently really high on us. Do you go balls to the wall for Chavez or potentially add 3 top 15ish recruits at similar value?

Not gonna lie, after the last few years, every time this is bumped before the season, I'm like this

Pop Tv Please GIF by One Day At A Time

Please no injuries, please no injuries.  For the love of God, can we be healthy for 1 full season so we can make a Final Four

“Back in July, LSU and Texas emerged as front runners to ultimately land Aaliyah Chavez. However, LSU has taken itself out of the running as, according to sources, her camp has asked programs for an excess of $1 million dollars in NIL support.

One source believes Texas is now a strong front runner to land Aaliyah Chavez, but noted that Texas Tech could make a late push.
The combination of being in Chavez’s hometown and the fact that The Matador Club NIL collective just paid softball transfer NiJaree Canady $1.2 million had one industry source saying that they wouldn’t be surprised if the Red Raiders were right there in the end.

Another source told On3 that Chavez has set official visits to both Texas and Oklahoma for the upcoming month.”

The issue with Tech is - are they going to keep Chavez in limbo about Gerlich's status?  Is her future employment at Tech dependent on making the tournament this year?

OU and Texas are the better options if you want stability - barring scandal, Vic and Jennie will be coaching at those schools her whole tenure.

The million dollars is in part to not care about the coaching situation.

True. I get Canady - new exciting coach, clearly a money commitment to softball, Big 12 without Texas and OU looks like an easy win

But WBB? No idea who may get hired or if it’s your freshman season, sophomore season, etc. Baylor, TCU, Arizona, Utah and ISU are all better programs than you next year, by far.

Does that even matter? Haley Van Lilth went from Louisville (Adidas) to LSU (Nike) to TCU (Nike)

There's been a ton of Adidas athletes who are at Nike schools - you can't wear Adidas in any of your school related events (media days, game days, etc.)

I'm not sure HVL is the caliber of player Chavez is out of HS so Nike may want to push her to their schools at least that's what I got from hearing him talk.

#5 in cremes way too early top 25

https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/39882544/womens-college-basketball-way-too-early-top-25-2024-25-poll

SoCar, UConn, SC, UCLA, Texas

ND 6, LSU 7, OU 12, Maryland 18, Ole Miss 20, Kentucky 23, Bama 24

SEC looks stacked (1, 5, 6, 12, 20, 23, 24) and we also play @6 and #18 in their backyard

251.png&h=60&w=60

5. Texas Longhorns

Previous ranking: 6

With Rori Harmon (14.1 PPG, 7.8 APG in 12 games) and Madison Booker (16.5 PPG) together in the same backcourt for a full season -- also their first in the SEC -- the Longhorns are one of the most talented and intriguing teams in the country. Booker's confidence and production skyrocketed after Harmon was lost for the season to injury in late December. Now, we will see her paired with Harmon's leadership and ball skills against the previous two national champions and the rest of the nation's deepest conference. Michigan's leading scorer Laila Phelia transferred in to join Shay Holle in the backcourt, giving the Longhorns a depth that rivals that of South Carolina. The frontcourt, with holdovers Taylor Jones and Aaliyah Moore and 6-6 Miami transfer Kyla Oldacre, is pretty good too.

I think the LA schools are a tad overrated because of the major market and Juju Watkins. Rori and Booker together are going to be a force. We have a final four caliber roster

Don't forget USC also got Iriafen from Stanford and van Oelhoffen from Oregon State + JuJu

UCLA got Barker from aggy, Leger-Walker from Wash State, Gardiner from Oregon State and they still have 6'7 Betts
