It was an upset. And a damn good one.

It was an upset in that context but I wasn't surprised at all that we won.

We are really good at home and South Carolina doesn't have much size inside to handle Jones/Oldacre. I think we would beat South Carolina on a neutral court too. A lot of people overreacted to South Carolina beating us a couple weeks ago when they've only lost 1 game at home in like 4 years.

Some teams are just difficult to beat on the road but I like our matchups against them on a neutral/home court.

The other thing about this game is I don't think South Carolina got anywhere close to our best.

Rori and Booker went a combined 8/31 from the field and I don't think it had much to do with South Carolina's D. Both were getting pretty good looks the entire game. This was just a game where those 2 weren't making shots.

Who made out this schedule?

Kentucky also plays tomorrow at Ole Miss before hosting us on Thursday.

That’s got to be tough on these girls after such an exhilarating hard-fought game today….guess it is what it is.

We def helped our cause by causing the (current) 3 way tie for 1st. Texas faces the other 1-loss teams (UK and LSU)

LSU still has: @ Texas, @ UK, @ Bama, Ole Miss

SoCar still has: @ Vandy, @ Ole Miss, UK

UK still has: @ Ole Miss, Texas, LSU, Tenn, @ SoCar

I still think SoCar is in the driver’s seat for the regular season title/1 seed. Would take another team having a lights out shooting night to take them down, bc the only teams that have really challenged SoCar so far have really good post players (Betts and Jones/Oldacre)

Well, she didn’t hit any 3’s today….hope she’s saving them for Mulkey…..in fact, nobody hit a 3 today, which to me, is hard to believe.  I don’t remember a game of ours where no one did.

We only took 4 lol

the flip side of the crazy three point shooting we had against Vandy

Texas women have three elite eights since 2021.

Yea but we have failed to beat programs the caliber of USCe. Hoping it’s a stepping stone to a title.

We did beat UConn 2 years ago at Moody. But unfortunately Rori went out a few weeks later with the ACL tear but we still made the Elite 8. That team probably makes a Final Four with RH

Meh. I hope it is too but Texas women's hoops isn't some sisters of the poor program that needs a breakthrough.

They need to take care of business in the tourney.

USCe is a wild acronym btw - I usually go SCAR 😂

Why didn’t we see Taylor more in the last five minutes, or did I miss something?

KO was just way too much for them. They had no one to match up with 6’6, so she stayed on the floor. He basically played them equally (19 min for Jones, 21 for KO)

It certainly worked as KO was very effective inside.  Not complaining, just wondered.

As annoying as it is to review the first time these teams played, one of the most obvious differences was in how poorly Texas shot following offensive boards. So many "easy" attempts were missed. That didn't happen nearly as often yesterday. Booker and Harmon still had trouble hitting from outside (8-31 combined on field goals, with most of their misses on jumpers), but when Jones or especially Oldacre grabbed a board down there, they tended to convert. Throw in SC's bad FT shooting and it was just enough to produce a historic win.

I just wanted the double bye for the SEC Tournament.

As of today, there is a very clear cut top 4 (Texas, SoCar, LSU, UK) of 1-loss teams who are likely the double bye candidates and then a big gap to #5, two teams who have 4-losses and one of them still plays 3 of the top 4 teams

Alabama only plays LSU but Ole Miss has LSU, UK, SoCar. Alabama is probably the only team who has a shot to sneak into the double bye, but it’s likely the top 4 teams are the favorites for the double bye. Especially if Texas goes 1-1 in our next 2, because our finishing schedule isn’t difficult (2-9 UGA, 4-7 MSST, 3-7 Florida)

Also, the tie breaker for the SECT #1 seed if Texas/SoCar both finish 15-1 is a coin flip, since their only loss would be to each other

Came here to say the same thing. Booker had a pretty good game overall, but not shooting wise (7-22, 31.8%). If she shoots marginally better, this was a double-digit win. Granted, SCar shot 36.8% as a team, which I’m sure is below their average. Texas played fantastic defense most of the game.

I agree.  it was not a great shooting day for the guards of SoCar (parenthesis is what they shot in their win in Columbia) but Texas defense clamped down on them. Major props to Harmon, Booker, Holle, Lee and Preston - great defense

Paopao 2-9 (4-5)
Hall 2-6 (3-5)
Johnson 0-5 (3-7)
Fulwiley 4-9 (4-10)

For as inefficient as Rori and Booker were, you had Holle and Lee who didn't take many but made their shots.  They need more shots.

Booker 7-22 - but as usual, she does all the other shit, leading the team in rebounding (11), minutes (39), 6-7 FT, 3 assists, 2 steals
Harmon 1-9 - I struggle with Rori still, she is not a good shooter, but she plays great defense, rebounds well for her size, hits her FTs now and facilitates so well.  She needs to find her teammates more and take fewer shots.
Holle 2-3
Lee 2-3

But man was our interior play so so good

Jak 4-4
Jones 4-8
Oldacre 6-10

About 10 points below their average (47%)

We also held them to 18 points below their average and scored 10 more points than they allow.

Texas has only allowed > 70 points 4 times - WV (73), ND (80 in OT), OU (73) and Tenn (76).  SoCar has been held under 70 by Texas both games.

My last big though - 10,500 was the attendance on Super Bowl Sunday.  Really well done

Can Texas surpass that next week against LSU? I hope so, and Vic should certainly challenge the fans, but the softball game vs Tech (12:30) is going to cause some people to pick and choose (LSU game is 2pm)

I wonder if Mike can get that game moved up 30 min, if not a full hour.  Try to end it around 1:30/1:45 and get some last arriving fans to Moody.

Just wondering out loud here: Do you think Madison and Rori's shot attempts were the result of Vic calling plays specifically for them? Agree that Lee and Shay needed to shoot more.

Kentucky looks like a bit of a trap game, though hopefully more so to our fans than our team. Vic I'm sure will have them diligently guarding the arc. Amoore will score, but hopefully under her usual 20. The other key is limiting her assists. If we keep Booker out of foul trouble and our "Twin Towers" neutralize Strack inside, we should win.

Vic straight up said “enjoy today, enjoy it tomorrow on the off day, then back to work against Kentucky”

Vic knows the SEC too well to know you can’t let a big win lead to a hangover. Tenn looked like they had a bit of one yesterday against LSU after their big win over UConn

I figured we would not leap frog ND, so #3 is fair.  They still have the head-to-head.

Also worth mentioning for the #1 seed discussion -

Texas has 9 Q1 wins, with 3 more opportunities. USC has 6 Q1 wins, with 4 more opportunities

Texas' best wins - WV (NET 11), @ Richmond (NET 29), @ OU (NET 16), Alabama (NET 17), Maryland (NET 23), Tennessee (NET 12), @ Ole Miss (NET 13), Vanderbilt (NET 22) and SoCar (NET 1).  Our two losses are @ ND (NET 4) and @ SoCar (NET 1)

USC's best wins - Ole Miss (NET 13), @ Oregon (NET 36), @ UConn (NET 2), Michigan (NET 27), @ Maryland (NET 23), Ohio State (NET 15).  Their 2 losses are ND (NET 4) and @ Iowa (NET 30).

If you want to compare - USC beat Ole Miss by 2 in Paris, Texas beat Ole Miss 3 on the road; USC beat Maryland on the road by 5, Texas beat Maryland at a neutral-ish site by 38; USC lost to ND by 13 at home; Texas lost to ND by 10 on the road in OT

A big reason why I think Texas has the advantage over USC for the last #1 seed, unless USC sweeps UCLA, will be Q1 wins.  Up to 12 for Texas; USC can max out at 10.  As well, we have 2 losses to top 4 NET teams and USC has a loss to #30

Dawg, I love that we won, but this was the same team that beat our ass by 17 a month ago. Yes, it was in USCE, but this team won the NC, had 57 straight wins, and we beat them by 4. This is an huge upset. The Moody is a fierce environment, but don't think this won't motivate them more, but as it motivated us when we got our ass best to the tune of 67-50.

AI Overview

"Unparamount" is not a standard English word, but it may be used to express the opposite of "paramount". "Paramount" means "most important" or "supreme".

so it’s not a word, but it it were it would mean unimportant.

Imagine our lady horns winning the conference in their first season. The lulz would be unparamount. The teara would flow like the salmon of Capistrano.

As Pancho mentioned, the first big thing is to finish top 4 and get the double bye

The second thing is to be on the opposite side of the bracket from SoCar - let someone else beat them before the finals; otherwise, we will take care of them again.

All of this. Need them on the opposite side and let someone else deal with them. That's the biggest thing.

I think when the shot clock is winding down, Booker is your playmaker.  We know Rori has a good jump shot, she just was not making them yesterday.  But I think Vic trusts them both to get the ball up before the shot clock expires so we can get at least get an offensive rebound out of it.
