Defense - oh yeah, elite

FT shooting - Vic‘s best Texas team, by far

Offense - ???

Toughness - 100000%

I think offensively we’ve been off because they have been through the gauntlet these past 2 weeks. They find a way to score when needed. That’s the mark of a championship team, IMO.

I did think about adding (this team looks exhausted) to that. I hope we look much better in our final 3 after some rest.

We played 13 SEC games + Maryland without a midweek bye. Brutal

She shot more free throws, and made more, than Texas took today.

Didn’t go 100% from the line though!

And they won all but one at South Carolina. Remarkable. On a different subject: what’s going on at South Carolina? Did we break their spirits last week?

Blakes is the new Allen Iverson. Same handles, moves, touch and guts. No telling where the bidding will go.

If we don’t land AC, we should 100% get into the bidding for Blakes.

Kitts and Feagin are soft inside. It’s not a surprise the 3 SoCar losses are UCLA (Betts), Texas (Twin Towers) and UConn.

Also Fudd just went off and Strong is a contender for NFOY - Paige was 3rd in scoring today.

SoCar is going to lose if they run into a team in the E8/FF who has the bigs to challenge them. @Rickylovesweed has said it, they don’t have a Cardoso this year. Dauda has been a huge disappointment and didn’t even play and so has Tac). Dawn probably wishes she had gone after Oldacre

Finishing SEC schedule:

Texas (12-1) - @ Georgia (2-10), @ MSST (5-8), Florida (4-8)

SoCar (11-1) - Arkansas (2-10), @ Vanderbilt (6-6), @ Ole Miss (8-5), Kentucky (9-3)

LSU (10-2) - Georgia (2-10), @ Kentucky (9-3), @ Alabama (7-4), Ole Miss (8-5)

Yes, it’ll be the reverse atmosphere at Pauley.

8pm on B1G to see if they have a hangover from that loss against #22 MSU

Follows USC @ UW to see if USC has a winner’s hangover

I don't think we lose to a team in the tournament unless they have a really good big.

We will generate too many extra possessions via turnovers and offensive rebounds if they don't have a good big.

I think our two bigs could handle someone like Betts - I’m more worried about Hidalgo/Miles and JuJu

USC doesn't scare me as much as other teams.

Iriafen and Marshall are more athletic types that will get bullied inside by our size. Oldacre has 2 or 3 inches and 50 pounds on their starting 5.

Oh no it’s def just JuJu going off like she did against UCLA. But Vic >>>> Close as a coach

Mulkey sounds like somebody that doesn't think she has a comparable roster that can compete with us this year.

She pretty much admits the 1st half was just us missing shots.

No true PG, leadership void without Reese and no killer instinct. Their bench is pretty bad too / not trustworthy.  They’ve let so many teams get back into the game after building double digit second half leads

This was supposed to be a transition year and they’re still poised to be a 2 seed, the highest for LSU under Mulkey.

She can coach but her personality is sooooooo awful. Just the worst person

So if Texas needs to be top 4 in conference to get a double bye, and the worst we could finish is with 4 losses, then Alabama would have to beat lsu at home and Tenn and ou on the road just to stay at 4 losses.  So to me we’ve all but clinched a top 4.

I know eyes are on bigger prizes but that was one metric of success cited before the conference season.

We do have the H2H against Bama so I do think we’ve clinched a top 4 seed

I think the top 4 teams in the conference shouldn’t even have to play in the conference tournament.  They are all getting in, regardless. The others that qualify to pkay in it, AP an fight it out to move up or get in.  We are already a #1 seed….what do we have to prove…that we are the #1 or #2 top #1 team…..or is it just about the $$$?

Speaking of SEC schedules, we are off until Monday (at Georgia), then to Starkville for Thursday (at MSST) and then the finale at home on Sunday (FL)

Off 7 full days, then 3 games in 7 days. But the double bye will be extra rest

Interesting that Mulkey says she doesn’t want to coach Vic’s team but then says she would play the two posts together. Vic alludes to having a package with them on the floor but he’s not ready to play it yet.

I agree with Vic, Texas should’ve separated in the first quarter. Mulkey knew and she knows Texas has more bullets at its disposal.

Interesting how in the post game presser Vic tried to avoid answering why Mwenentanda lost her starting job for today's game, but also said something like "You never know when showing up to shoot around on time will get you your opportunity to play" and not to mention one of the color commentators said Mwenentanda didn't start because she was late to shoot around.....

Not sure why Vic briefly tried to keep it a secret just for a brief moment in that presser. Also, I bet Mwenentanda isn't late to shoot around again this season

2 quick Mulkey stories

- I think I’ve told this story before—I was reffing a girls varsity tournament in Buda in the mid 2000s and Mulkey’s daughter was on one of the teams. I was watching a friend ref that game as I had the next one. Mulkey walked in during the 1st quarter and before she could even sit down, she was bashing the refs. She was still walking in after paying and was already on the refs ass. I was laughing because my friend in that game was so scared, you could see it on his face.

- During the 2022 SEC Women’s tournament (the one where she went ape shit and got a technical from Billy Smith, who weirdly was reffing this game yesterday), Mulkey ran into Lisa Mattingly (Head of women’s refs for the SEC) in the tunnel and cussed her ass out. Why? Because refs were still wearing masks.

Texas remains #3 in NET this morning - only major change was UConn and SoCar switching places at 1 and 2.  Because beating the #1 NET team by 30 on the road will do that.  That was the only change in the top 10

10 game win streak
21 game home win streak
4 game road win streak

Warren Nolan still has Texas at 11-2 Q-1.  MSU is still Q1 (NET 35), so good chance Texas finishes with 12 Q1 victories in the regular season.

Texas boasts wins over:

#2 SoCar
#10 LSU
#11 Tenn
#12 Ole Miss
#13 WV
#15 OU
#17 Alabama
#20 Kentucky
#23 Vanderbilt
#25 Maryland
#32 Richmond
#44 South Dakota State
#53 James Madison
#55 Auburn

Remaining 3 games:

#124 Georgia
#35 Miss St
#56 Florida

Our SOS is #3, thanks to the SEC schedule.  As our non-conf was #27, which was still surprisingly tougher than first glance, with 6 teams in the top 53 of the NET (and 7 in the top 100, as Lamar is hovering just above 100).

What a miserable cunt.

None of that is surprising.  She's so fucking miserable and yes, I can absolutely see her dress down someone of importance for wearing a mask.

It'll be an absolute delight if Texas, SoCar, UCLA, USC, UConn, etc. can keep her from a visit to the White House between now and 2028.

Mulkey loves to play big so I get her thought process of playing Jones and Oldacre together.

I don't think it makes much sense though in our context. We are already dominating teams in the paint and are arguably the best offensive rebounding team in the country. We have also played much better this year going smaller.

I do kind of understand her thought process though. She's the type to just say "yeah try and stop both these big girls in the paint together."

Don’t fix what it ain’t broke. I’d worry about spacing with two big girls, what we are doing now is clearly working.

But as you also said, Preston needs more minutes. Whether that’s splitting time with Rori for 20/20 or taking time away from Holle to play that Harmon/Preston combo. With Lee at the 3, Booker at the “4” and Oldacre or Jones inside.

Vic talked about it a bit in the PC but yesterday was the 1st time all year that Preston ran point with Harmon at the 2.

That's the lineup we used almost the entire 4th quarter. It won the game for us.

I noticed. I don’t hate it but Rori is not a 2 and not a shooting threat. But it should be a selling point for AC, 100%.

Rori's strength is the midrange.

Rori's big issue is she's too passive at PG. Preston is much more aggressive and gets to the paint. It forces defenses to collapse and creates more looks for other players.

I actually think Rori might be better at the 2. She looked comfortable coming off screens/ball movement to get to the midrange game where she's actually good.

Is this our version of positionless basketball for our guards?

Rori can play the 1 or 2

Booker can play the 1, 3, 4

Jak can play the 3 or 4

When Rori, Preston, Lee and Booker are on the floor, we have 4 pretty good ball handlers.

The national championship race is wide open -- and Texas might be the hottest team

Philippou: The past four days cemented how wide open March and April are going to be -- at least, within the top echelon of teams. Before last Sunday, I considered UCLA, South Carolina and Notre Dame the top three teams in the country, with one of them most likely to cut down the nets in Tampa. But the Bruins and Gamecocks looked mortal over the past eight days, UCLA suffering its first loss of the season and South Carolina dropping two of three games for the first time since 2019.

Meanwhile, USC earned its first victory over a No. 1-ranked opponent since 1983 and reaffirmed its place in the title conversation, particularly if Watkins goes supernova in March the way she did against UCLA. UConn's stunning upset in Columbia on Sunday indicated for the first time this season that the Huskies are capable of beating anybody.

Still, no one has had a better stretch than Texas. The Longhorns have defeated three consecutive ranked opponents, including South Carolina and LSU, and are showing they might be as dangerous as any team.

Those six -- plus the Irish -- have solidified themselves in a tier above the rest.

I've watched a lot of USC and UCLA. I don't see it with either team in terms of national title chances.

It's kind of crazy how accurate NET is. I think the top 4 teams are the top 4 teams in NET (UCONN, South Carolina, Texas, and Notre Dame). I've said it for a month now but I think the top 2 teams are Texas and ND. Both are completely different teams than what they were in non-conference due to changes in lineups and getting players back from injury.
