Watching yesterday, the thing I noticed that I somehow haven’t the past 3 years is that rori has a pretty flat shot. Doesn’t give herself much angle to get friendly rolls and bounces, if she’s even a little short it clangs off the front iron. No idea if they’ve tried changing her shot or not. Probably hurts her ft% too.

Rori is shooting her best FT% of her career

Lord god don’t let us lose to lsu or tcu in the ncaat.

I think LSU is the dream draw in the Elite 8.

It's probably going to make a lot of sense too based on seeding and regional match-ups. Mulkey's PC was pretty much my thoughts of this matchup. It took our worst shooting half of the season for this to even be a game. I don't think LSU matches up well with us at all.

Really a contrast to Booker's ozone arc.
She must be working with Tim Duncan....

That's true, but where is that three point shot they say she's worked on?

Defenses sag way off of her.
It would really open up our offense, and she's going to need it at the next level.
Right now her mid-range game works fine against shorter slower defenses, but against the better teams in the SEC she struggles.

I've said it for a month now but I think the top 2 teams are Texas and ND. Both are completely different teams than what they were in non-conference due to changes in lineups and getting players back from injury.

Hidalgo is a real problem, but Preston played one minute that game. Gives me hope.

true but man TCU/Prince are getting cooked on twitter.

I finally read the accusations and it's bad. I've always wondered if lesbian/gay relationships are handled differently in this situation. If this were a male/female relationship the guy would 100% be suspended right now.

When was the last time SCar wasn't in the top 5?

They were #6 in the final AP poll of the 2020-21 season, even though they made the Final Four (beat Vic's Texas team that surprised to make it that far)

I forgot about that game, we scored 34 points lol

Yeah, I love this bracket - Ohio State is the meh-est top 10 team right now and we already beat Bama ass.

We joke about the 19 points we scored yesterday in the 1st half, but we've had 1st half clunkers under Vic:

2021 against Baylor - we scored 17 in the first half, 35 for the game
2021 against SoCar (Elite Eight) - we scored 22 in the first half, 34 for the game.  We got shutout 10-0 in the 4th Q
2023 against Louisville (Round of 32), we scored 23 in the first half, 28 in the second half

Granted, those 2021 teams overachieved so badly to make the Elite 8, and that 2023 team was on life support offensively by the end of the season (RIP, Sonya Morris' thigh)

I just don’t see ND being this special team.  they don’t seem like anything special we haven’t seen, and honestly I think LSU is a better team but ND may have better interior play and they hustle a lot more!

think we could’ve beat them there earlier but I know they were missing a key piece so. But if we see them again I think we’ll be fine, unlike S,Car and LSU I think our bigs can move with there and I like our guard play. Like Sunday if yall remember we didn’t have a good shooting night in Fort Bend and still forced it to OT.

LSU is not better than ND.

LSU has been escaping with wins all year but could easily have 6 or 7 losses. Their roster is pretty limited as @Js1 noted above. They're #10 in NET which I think is a much more accurate picture of who they are. They're a 3 or 4 seed caliber team that might find a way to get a 2 seed from a couple miracle wins.

Well if ND and UConn are both 1s, they’ll stick them on the opposite sides in hopes they meet in the NC game.

I really don’t think UConn will move to a 1. It would take a pretty big collapse by everyone else.

The way the first 16 reveal came out tells me Q1 wins matter a lot to the committee, with Texas above ND despite the H2H.

Texas - 11 Q1 wins. ND - 6 Q1 wins. Texas seeded 3rd and ND 4th.

UConn - 4 Q1 wins. And they have no opportunities for another Q1 win in their shitty conference.

Really looking forward to see if Justice can continue what she did against LSU (5 points, 3-3 FT, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 3 blocks) in 17.5 minutes. Considering she hadn't played real minutes since early January, she only committed 2 fouls and drew 3.

Having another player, period, immediately improves our depth and versatility.

Carlton +3
Booker +7
Harmon +2
Oldacre +7
Lee +7
Preston +18

3 freshmen, a sophomore and a first year transfer led the way in +/- on Sunday.

We are also likely locked into the first quarterfinal (#1 seed) on Friday, March 7 at 11am (ESPN2) or the third quarterfinal (#2 seed) on Friday, March 7 at 5pm (SEC Network)

Texas wins out + SoCar wins out = coin flip for the #1 seed, co-regular season champs
Texas wins out + SoCar drops one of their final games = Texas wins the SEC regular season

The odds of Texas winning out are something north of 90% - Texas is favored 94% at Georgia, 80% at MSST, 95% Florida
SoCar is also favored to win out as well - 99% against Arkansas, 86% at Vanderbilt, 83% at Ole Miss, 94% Kentucky
LSU, while favored to win out but will likely drop another - 94% Georgia, 69% at Kentucky, 59% at Alabama, 71% Ole Miss

The odds likely favor:

Texas/SoCar #1/#2 (coin flip)
LSU #3
Kentucky or Bama #4

I would hope we win the coin flip, or SoCar drops one more, to avoid LSU in the semifinals.  I don't like giving Kim second chances against Texas.  Give me Kentucky and Bama, we match up extremely well with them.

I hope Vic continues to give Carlton minutes and this wasn't a one-off because of Mwenentanda being late to shootaround. I think there is a lot more upside with her, but she needs more experience.

Not sweating the tournament since our seed is pretty much locked provided we win out

No doubt, 3-0 finish and we are locked in at the 1

I want to make the SEC finals. I’m not worried about being tired or rest - we have this week off, we have 5 days between season end and the SEC QFs and first round is not until March 19/20. Even if we make the finals, it’s 10 or 11 days off until the first round

He did not pull her quick - she got 18 minutes in an important game. Which to me was a vote of confidence. 🤞

She played 9 more minutes than Jak. Some critical fucking minutes in a huge game, where we needed to mount a big comeback.

I don't know how that doesn't scream "huge vote of confidence from Vic" and "needs to split time with Jak at the 4 starting now"  - because A-Mo is probably not returning this season.

Sitting on the bench will send a message. Carlton was working her ass off on the defensive end and on the boards.

She still does some dumb things on the offensive end but I think the message was sent. If you want to play give us effort on the defensive end and on the boards.

Looking at Charlie's bracketology:

  • UConn moved up from 7 to 5 by virtue of a big win over South Carolina, but they are pretty maxed at #5 due to Q1 record; Creighton is just on the cusp of being a Q1 game for them next week (NET 30, at UConn), but that still would only give them 5
  • USC dropped to 6 due to UConn moving up, but remains ahead of LSU due to a better NET ranking (6 vs 9) and more Q1 wins (8 vs 5)
  • LSU was 6, but they drop to 7 with the loss to Texas, but stays ahead of TCU due to Q1 record (5-2 vs 5-3) and NET ranking (9 vs 10)
  • TCU moves up from 9 to 8 with NCST's loss

On a straight S curve, that would be UCLA-TCU, Texas-LSU, ND-USC and SoCar-UConn, but 3 of those are rematches, 2 of which are super late regular season games, so if the seeds held, you'd probably see what Creme predicted this morning with some moving up and down the S curve:

Spokane 1: 1 UCLA / 8 LSU
Birmingham 2: 2 Texas  / 7 TCU
Birmingham 3: 3 ND / 6 UConn (rematch, but from December)
Spokane 4: 4 SoCar / 5 USC

Potential Sweet 16 matchups:

UCLA/Tenn
LSU/Duke

SoCar/Kentucky
USC/NCSU

Texas/Ohio State
TCU/UNC

ND/OU
UConn/KSU

Unless Kentucky gets knocked out of the top 16, there will be at least 1 SEC conference Sweet 16 rematch - 75% of the 4 seeds are SEC teams and 50% of the 1 seeds are SEC teams.  Wonder if the committee gets "creative" and tries for a Texas-OU Sweet 16.  That would be epic.

With Kentucky's hard finish to the season + KSU losing yesterday, West Virginia/Alabama/Michigan State/Maryland are teams to watch in the next rankings reveal (Feb 27)

What a year for the ladies. 26-2

It's ironic how many teams still think we will lose early in the NCAA tournament because we can't hit the 3 or some team will shoot the 3 absurdly well and we can't catch up

We made 8 threes against ND - we lost not because ND also hit 8, but because we had 23 turnovers and struggled to contain Miles/Hidalgo.
Tennessee hit 9 threes and still lost to us
We hit 3 three pointers against SoCar, Kentucky and LSU combined  - we went 3-0

Yes, we lost to NCST last year with them going 9-18 from three, but we also had 14 turnovers and we had no one who was quick enough to contain Aziah James.  She torched us.  And we did that without Rori.

3 point shooting is the dumbest argument against this team. We don't make many 3s because we don't shoot many 3s. We're #345 in the country in 3-point attempts per game.

Maybe teams should learn how to stop Oldacre/Jones in the paint and our guards in the midrange game.

It's def the notion that we can't hit 3s (which we can, when Booker, Holle or Lee take them) if we need to come back from a deficit

As if everyone is blind to the fact that we have trailed by 9 against ND in the 3rd Q and forced OT, trailed by 12 against OU in the 2Q (and won), trailed by 7 against Ole Miss in the 4th Q (and won), trailed by 11 against Mizzou in the 2nd Q (and won) and trailed by 12 in the 3rd Q against LSU and won.

And we didn't get back into these games by bombing 3s lol

We're obviously quicker, deeper and more tested at the guard positions now than we were against NC State last year or ND earlier this season. With Harmon, Preston, Lee and Holle all getting meaningful minutes, I feel good about our chances of limiting Hidalgo, Miles or whoever else from deep. That, plus a neutral court, is why I look forward to a tournament rematch with the Irish.
