Schaefer’s postgame was pretty good when he was calling out the absurdity of Sankey practicing the coin flip for two hours.

”what’s he need to practice for for two hours? Unless he was practicing for a specific outcome. You tell me.”

Put a steer on one end of a seesaw and a rooster on the other and guess which one might be higher when it stops. That said, I tend to agree with old Bill Bradley on the impact. This team ain't skeered.

Texas remains the top overall seed.  Creme has two other SEC teams in the top 4 seeds in our region - #3 OU and #4 Ole Miss.

LSU is still hanging onto a 2 seed, for now

The Nos. 1 and 2 seeds remained intact, but LSU -- after its second straight loss and Flau'Jae Johnson out for the SEC tournament -- is at risk of losing a No. 2 seed that a week ago appeared nearly locked up.

He repeated that this morning on a radio sports show….adding that he only saw one side of the coin!

He was jus trying to be funny. I doubt he practiced 2 min. However, how often do you see a coin flipper not show both sides of the coin before that flip?? That was bullshit.

Def sketchy. They did show the coin (both sides) during, I think, the MSST game. But he didn’t show off either side and he didn’t pick the coin up off his hand either. Camera just zoomed in on the back of his hand and that was that

Get NC State out of our region—ASAP

FSU would be dangerous in the other half of the bracket. They had the guard play to keep up with ND - I do think they could take out NCST in the Sweet 16

Texas holds 25 of 31 first place votes in this week’s AP poll. USC has the other 6

If today’s AP poll mirrored the tournament seedings, these would be the Elite 8 matchups.

1. Texas v 8. TCU

2. USC v 7. NCST

3. UCONN v 6. ND

4. UCLA v 5. SCAR

UConn won't be a 1, barring some tournament chaos (like SoCar or UCLA losing immediately in the conf tournament), but I think TCU, after having beaten Baylor to win the Big 12 last night, could be a candidate to move onto the 8 spot if LSU loses in their first matchup of the SECT

Right now, I have it:

1 Texas
2 USC
3 SoCar
4 UCLA
5 UConn
6 ND
7 NCST
8 LSU/TCU

And it is not because I am scared of NCST, I just think the fact they beat ND and won the ACC means they're a lot better than 8th overall.  If they go far in the ACC tournament and/or win it, keeping them at 8th is going to be bullshit.

I hope they don’t, and wouldn’t want, a potential Texas/scar age in the semifinals. Swap UConn and scar and that makes more sense to me for that matchup, and keeps the LA schools apart until the final as well.

not that I particularly want a piece of UConn but by the e8 you are playing a good team, just a matter of which one.

Just the media award from USA Today.  I think we may also get AP awards too.

The coaches awards will matter more

I actually would have given COY to Caldwell or Ralph. Vanderbilt and Tenn way overperformed.

I know NC State beat our banged-up squad last year in the tournament but they do not scare me as a 2 seed.

They're 8-5 away from home and were on the edge of having a couple more losses. They do not seem like the same team away from Raleigh.

The other thing with NC State is they are really small inside.

They're even smaller inside than last year and they had no answer for Jones. She had 11 points in 10 minutes and had she been healthy I'm not sure NC State would have even beat us.

Jones/Oldacre would be a major problem for NC State. The only answer is probably zone because they simply don't have the size inside to handle them. Their only big with size is a FR that only plays about 20 minutes a game. Their bigs are also really young and not ready for the type of physicality Jones/Oldacre will bring.

I do like that freshman big they have - Trigg.  She had 19 and 9 in the 2OT win over ND.  They are just a 4 headed monster at guard - Rivers, Brooks, Hayes, James.  One or two are bound to go off.

If we ended up against them, you'd almost have to play mostly a 4 guard lineup to handle them.  I'd almost say fuck it and start Harmon, Preston, Holle and Booker just to handle them.

But you are right, they probably would struggle to handle Jones and Oldacre inside.  Liatu King had 16 and 14 in that game and she's only a 6'0 forward.  ND doesn't really have a traditional center.

Clara Stracke from KY got DPOY. Way better than Morrow - rebounds aren’t a good defensive metric

Back to back POY in 2 diff conferences

Shocked here, too. I suspect Booker herself would say she had a pretty mortal year in conference. Hard to imagine going 3-19 or whatever against SCar in front of the world and then playing well enough overall to earn that award. But more power to her for doing it. Her value clearly goes far beyond scoring.

Happy for her, but her SEC stats were pretty unremarkable:

17th in scoring at 15.0 per game
11th in rebounding at 6.9 per game
20th in FG% at 40.6%
7th in FT% at 83.9%
21st in assists at 2.8 per game
16th in steals at 1.7 per game
12th in minutes at 33.6 per game

My guess is it's because she kind of does everything for Texas, who is #1 and SEC co-champ - top 20 in scoring, rebounding, steals, minutes and almost top 20 assists.  She's really the do it all player.

How did neither of the bigs get a nod?

The criteria was weird. I feel like putting 3 LSU players on the first team is a subtle dig at Kim. 3 players versus 2 total for SoCar/Texas and finished 3rd

Think the SEC needed larger first and second teams and an HM list

Annette Smith (83/84) was the last Longhorn to be named conference POY in back to back years.

And she’s only a sophomore. And will be one of the top returners in 2025-26 in the SEC

Sorry, but I have a hard time believing LSU deserved to have 3 on the first team all SEC, not to mention the snubbing of our bigs. Ridiculous.

There’s a lot of complaints. Khamille Pierre had all SEC stats and got snubbed too.

Rori should have been right in the mix for DPOY.

The best perimeter defender on the best defensive team in the SEC. Our defense is all predicated on the on-ball pressure too. I actually think Rori makes more sense as DPOY than Booker winning SEC POY.

These awards were weird. I feel like Rori is drastically undervalued because of her offensive limitations at times. She's still one of the best defensive players in the country.

No doubt but I have no issue with Stracke - 4th in rebounding, 1st in blocks (2.5 per game).

Rori doesn’t have the defensive “stats” - 7th in steals. I don’t think the coaches look at things like charges taken when choosing DPOY

It's too predicated on raw stats like steals, blocks, etc.

I guarantee if you look at advanced stats Rori > Strack and Morrow. It's probably not even close either.

I think Rori thrives on being the defense guard teams stress about.  She won’t get her flowers for it, but she should

These All SEC/POYs are a bit of a blessing.
Vic gonna play that Kirby Smart angle perfectly getting his team believing no one respects them or thinks they’re any good….when they’re clearly the best team in the country.

cant wait for the next month.

The biggest issue with our bigs is they're both so good that they're really co-starters.

Jones only plays 21 minutes a game and Oldacre 17 minutes a game. That's the beauty of having two legit bigs but you're not going to get much love when other players are getting 30+ minutes a game.

Yes, this is pretty accurate.  Co-starters, so it's harder for them to get SEC awards.

I'll take Jones and Oldacre combining for 21.8 points and 13.1 rebounds in nearly split minutes over someone like Auburn playing Gaston 30 minutes per game (22.5 points and 7.2 rebounds) . Our twin towers can trade off, keeping each other rested and fresh as we move further into the tournament.  Plus matchups - sometimes Jones has a better game, so Oldacre doesn't have to play as much, as vice versa.  Or sometimes it's foul trouble for one and the other plays more.

Last 5 games:

Kentucky: 21 minutes for Jones, 19 for Oldacre
LSU: 20 and 20
Georgia: 31 for Jones, 11 for Oldacre
MSST: 18 for Jones, 22 for Oldacre
Florida: 17 for Jones, 22 for Oldacre

TOTAL: 107 for Jones, 94 for Oldacre

That's gotta be Vic's selling point - it doesn't matter if you come in as a transfer big with Oldacre in front of you, you will basically split time with her.

Season minutes - 632 for Jones, 560 for Oldacre.  Basically a 53/47 split in minutes for our post player.

Is he implying that it is league jealousy that had LSU getting voted up and Texas players getting snubbed? If so, I agree. If not, well, that's what I think and I'm still confused by his last sentence. I feel like we saw this in CFB as well. These hillbillies and rednecks don't like Texas coming into the conference and immediately being elite in a sport. Sucks for the players, but I do find the envy entertaining.
