Offensively, I want to see our guards drive the paint more and use our bigs to seal off defenders.

Holle was getting torched by the quicker guards for LSU and also SoCar. Which forced our bigs to rotate late and pick up fouls. I’m not saying she needs to sit, but Vic should practice more lineups the next 2 weeks with Preston and Lee getting more minutes at guard. Need their quickness in the later rounds

Also need Vic to tell Lee if she’s open, shoot it. She can make them. and if you miss, you have teammates who are excellent at rebounding misses

That is what jumped off the page to me.  Holle is an intelligent, high effort, team oriented defender, but she simply lacks the athleticism to stay in front of quicker guards.  She was the focal point LSU and SoCar used to break down the Texas defense.  It is very hard to play excellent team defense and stay out of foul trouble when you are consistently allowing dribble penetration, and Holle was getting blown by constantly.  It would be one thing is she made up for it by being a mismatch on offense, but all she can do is swing the ball and launch threes.  The very reason why she can't stay in front of quick guards is the very same reason why she can't drive on offense.  I love Holle and she's a great Longhorn, but she is more suited as a 7th player in a rotation role for a championship team.

Dead on, Js1. Other than holding SCar to a poor shooting percentage and dominance by Jones and Oldacre, these were strategic underpinnings of the win at home.

Phelia being healthy all year would have changed the rotations. Would have alleviated some issues.

Certainly would have helped with outside shooting. Teams wouldn't be able to sag back in a 2-3/2-1-2 zone if Phelia/Holle or Phelia/Lee were on the court most of the time. That would then open up the interior to feed the bigs.

Get Phelia healthy and back, get Chavez on campus, and secure a portal big to spell Oldacre and next year looks very promising. One can dream all these variables align...

Also assuming she comes in like Booker, and the comparisons are all there, you can play more lineups with Booker at the 1 and Crump coming in to play SF

Disappointed to see the voting coaches followed the AP’s lead. They moved us down to 5th as well. I guess they fell victim to recency bias, too. Hopefully, the selection committee won’t.

Coaches Poll

Like many here, I believe the committee won't fall victim to recency bias, BUT what are the alternatives where a two seed makes more competitive sense for Texas?

For instance, if we land a one seed but get UConn as our two, I'm not sure that's better than being the first two in USC's region.

Texas being a 2 would be ridiculous. And yes it doesn't really affect the EE matchup but in the SS you are playing a 3 instead of a 4.

I agree with you. I merely wanted to post the question to see what the ideal scenario may look like.

The committee killing us for losing by 19 to SoCar and pushing us to a 2, but rewarding SoCar, who lost by a billion at home to UConn, with the #1 overall seed, would be some bullshit

I don't think the committee weighs a conf tournament title loss as much as the media/coach voting.  Voting is nothing but a week to week, what did you do in your last game thing.  The committee's job is to look at our entire body of work, including our 14 Q1 wins, SEC regular season co-championship, 15 game win streak, etc.

I’d rather be a 2 with USC as the 1 than be a 1 with UConn as the 2.

UConn isn’t the same UConn as before but they are the favorites to win the NC for a reason.

I just want to break through and get to the FF

Finally someone who will engage my hypothetical.

And again, y’all, I agree that given cumulative résumés of the five schools under consideration for a one seed, Texas should clearly get one. I would just really like to avoid UConn prior to the F4.

Who’s to say UConn wouldn’t be a one seed and USC the first two seed, with us a one seed of course. UConn is number one in net rankings this week I believe, with USC at 6th.

Also entirely possible.

I agree, I just think that the committee will stick with sending 2 southern teams to Birmingham as the 1s and 2 west coast teams to Spokane as the 1s.  They want to maximize attendance at the 2 sites as much as possible.

If we were debating Texas or UConn for a fourth 1 seed in, say, Albany or New Jersey, I think Texas would get bumped.  I think the committee has gotten flack for some lackluster S16/E8 attendance at the 2 regional sites when a non-regional 1 seed is playing there.

Same as next year, if there is a 1 seed debate is between Texas and USC for Fort Worth - Texas is winning that battle.

Let's be real, their true criteria are: attendance, eyeballs, storylines, and then resumes.

First potential big is in the portal - Serah Williams

https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/player/_/id/5108550/serah-williams

6'4 junior from NY, transferring out of Wisconsin

Averaged 19.2 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 2.4 apg, 2.3 bpg on 50% FG and 78% FT

She will be highly sought after by any team who needs interior help.

"Williams, the only player in Division I averaging more than 19.1 points and 10.0 rebounds per game, secured her second career First-Team and All-Defensive Team honors. One of the most well-rounded players in college basketball, the junior also averages 2.5 assists and 2.3 blocks per game. She becomes the first Badger to earn multiple First-Team All-Big Ten honors since Jolene Anderson (2007-08), the fifth-ever to achieve this feat, and the first player in program history to be named to the All-Defensive Team twice in her career."

Yes, please.

The competition for that is going to be fierce.  No doubt we will try, but a lot of schools are going to pursue this one

If we get the big gold Chavez ring does that hurt our NIL recruiting efforts?

Does she break the bank?

If we get AC, Vic has to sell to the donors that this is the roster that wins us a title.

Chavez
Booker
Oldacre
Lee/Preston
Phelia back from injury

Just go get a big and we are preseason #1, especially if Rori comes back

Don’t sleep on Crump. She’s good.

While we're at it, in my fantastic world we'd get her BF, Asa Newell, to portal here from UGA. Too bad it appears he'll be joining Tre Johnson in the draft.
