It is like night and day and watching the effort, execution, and discipline of both squads. I don’t think our dudes could handle the accountability that comes with Vic.

maybe not these dudes…… but if you know the expectations going in….. and you still shit your pants…. thats kinda on you.

Set the bar high and see who is willing????

Again I dont know shit about shit…. but Vic could double his salary if he swapped places with RT

Vic’s brand is “boring” and men don’t want to play a “get it to the post” offense. We don’t shoot 3s (much, or well) and you’d never get guys like Tre. Men want to run and gun and shoot, not just play defense for 35 minutes a game

Also this team could never execute Vic’s system - I’m not sure Shedrick could hold up against Smiley, he’s too soft on the interior

Notre Dame made 14 3's tonight. Texas made one. Both with comfortable wins (ND on it's way). What a contrast in styles. When they played earlier this season it went to OT. Just shows there is more than one way to win. This is what is going to make March so fun.

The men's game is drastically different from the women's game.  The men's game is played above the rim and the X's and O's are different.  The talent pool is much, much deeper.  There is much more money in the game and recruiting is much more competitive.  The influence of the NBA is lurking all around and the WNBA's influence doesn't come close in the women's game.

Vic is an awesome coach and exactly where he should be to maximize his success as a coach.  He wouldn't automatically excel the same way in the men's game.  My advice to you, or anyone, is to simply enjoy the women's game for what it is and the men's game for what it is and stop trying to compare the two.

Unrelated to women's basketball but I can't wait to hear what you have to say in the spring with regards to the two new coaches we will have. You were high on Baker early on based on the feedback you received.

Assuming we don't win a national title in women's basketball this season, who gets one first at Texas: Vic, Sark or Schloss? I know it depends on an endless number of variables, but I could see any of the three ultimately being the right answer. Let's go ahead and get one for the women and watch the other two guys battle it out for next.

Vic or Sark

Vic will be a favorite next year if we get Chavez.  Sark has 2 years of Arch.

Also the ESPN Analytics predictor is surprisingly accurate - had Texas as a huge favorite at 87% (and we won big) and had USC a favorite 57-43 over UCLA.

ESPN Analytics has Texas 81.1% for Sunday...

1 seed watch -

Socar - NET 1
10-2 Q1 record (losses @ Texas and @ UCLA)
4 more Q1 opportunities - UConn, @ Vandy, @ Ole Miss, Kentucky

Texas - NET 3
10-2 Q1 record (losses @ ND and @ SoCar)
2 more Q1 opportunities - LSU, @ MSST

ND - NET 4
6-2 Q1 record (losses to TCU neutral and Utah, neutral)
3 more Q1 opportunities - Duke, @ NCST, FSU

UCLA - NET 5
8-1 Q1 record (loss @ USC)
3 more Q1 opportunities - @ Michigan State, @ Iowa, USC

USC - NET 6
8-2 Q1 record (loss to ND and @ Iowa)
3 more Q1 opportunities - @ Washington, Michigan State, @ UCLA

The committee is probably really conflicted.  Texas and SoCar are leading the field in Q1 wins and have the "best losses" to only top 5 NET teams.  UCLA only has 1 loss.  ND has 2 very early losses, but the least amount of Q1 wins.

If SoCar and Texas win out, that's 14 and 12 Q1 wins.  ND can max out at 9.  UCLA and USC can max out at 11, but they play each other, so one can hit 11 and the other 10.

The first reveal by the committee is Sunday during the UConn/SoCar game.

Texas has agreed to a three-year extension with WBB coach Vic Schaefer that adds three years to his deal and will keep him with the Longhorns through the 2029-30 season. If approved by the regents, Schaefer will make $2.6 million in the final year of his contract. #HookEm

Vic’s deal still puts him almost 600k behind Staley. Kim and Geno lead with 3.36m and 3.33m. Staley at 3.2m

I doubt JuJu and company getting the final 1 seed over a somewhat less sexy Texas squad would bother the media in the least. Let's blast LSU and MSST and splash some water on that notion.

I don’t think it’s the media. It will be interesting to hear the committee’s justifications today - especially as it pertains to NET and Q1 wins and quality losses. Texas has the edges on both ND and USC for all 3 - better NET, more Q1 wins, better quality losses and is in the top NET conference.

ND has the H2H on Texas but the ACC is the third best conference and they have 2 neutral site losses to Big 12 teams, which is the 4th ranked conference in NET.

If Texas wins today and SoCar loses to UConn, could see Texas bump up within the 1 seed tier. Right now it’s UCLA/SoCAR/ND/Texas (or Texas/ND, depending on what the committee is focusing on) - could see the best bracketology have Texas as the #2 or #3 overall seed.

If you beat SoCar, Kentucky and LSU within a week, and your only other losses are on the road to top 5 NET teams… Texas is building a good case for #2 or #3 overall

Crème:

The competition for the No. 1 seeds is down to six teams for four spots. Despite USC's thrilling win over UCLA on Thursday, the order of those top six remains unchanged for now. The Bruins had built enough of a cushion to absorb a loss and stay the No. 1 overall team. And the Trojans, who now have wins over UCLA and UConn, are blocked from the top line by Texas and South Carolina -- which lead the country with 10 Quad 1 wins each -- and Notre Dame, which has victories over USC and Texas and the same number of Quad 1 wins as the Trojans (7). USC would be a No. 1 seed if the Longhorns hadn't beaten the Gamecocks on Sunday. The March 1 rematch between the Bruins and Trojans could be the game that changes the makeup of the top line. LSU, the sixth team vying for a spot on the top line, faces a No. 1 seed elimination game on Sunday against Texas. If LSU loses in Austin, the chase for a top seed is down to five teams.

We got one of the #1 seeds on the reveal:

1s - UCLA, Souf Carolina, Texas, ND

2s - USC, LSU, UConn, NC State

3s - TCU, Duke, Nawf Carolina, Kay-State

4s - Kentucky, tOSU, ou, Tennessee

Was hoping that tied in regulation at ND would be seen as a push at worst, despite the happenings in overtime.

My guess is Q1 wins trumps H2H here - Texas has 10, ND has 6

SoCar still has an overall better body of work and NET than us, and they did beat us by 17 in Columbia, so they get the nod over us for #2

ND is going to be an incredibly difficult out for anyone. They haven't lost a game since getting Westbeld back and have been blowing out just about everyone.

That ND vs Texas game was really interesting because they didn't have Westbeld yet. We were also playing the big lineup too many minutes with Moore and the 2 FR (Lee/Preston) hardly played. These are two completely different teams now.

I wouldn't be shocked if these are actually the 2 best teams in the country.

Posted

Edwards and Kitts are good players but they just don't have a legit center like they did last year in Cardoso.

They're really soft in the paint and those physical guards have helped hide those problems against inferior competition. South Carolina is going to have issues with any team that has physical bigs as we saw in Austin.

I mean UConn is going to win out. I don’t know that they get above a 2 seed though even with this win unless Carolina loses again? And even then…

They’ll only have 4 Q1 wins. They aren’t in the race

USC probably benefits from SoCar losing again

Line creeped up to -9.5

FJ is in the starting lineup, per Derka. So interesting the line moved up
