I speak for all 20 teams in the Premier league that we need better refs. Week in and week out they are shocking. Even with video review. Good ol boys club with no training or punishment for when they get it horribly wrong.

How did Pawson miss that foul live? The refs in this league are so shit.

To be fair, I thought he let a lot of physical play go in this game. And that's fine, but that was an easy call once it went to the monitor.

it never ends. even with VAR they manage to fuck it up on a weekly basis. it’s outrageous.

2 years in a row that the 3 promoted teams get relegated.

Not to mention with the spending rules on promoted/relegated teams they make it almost impossible to stay up. Forest spent actual money to build a team and they came after them with the ban hammer last year.

Leicester haven’t scored a league goal since January 26th

Southampton are now on their third manager since Leicester last scored a goal at home.

who is your pick for MOTY?

A)Slot- going to run away with the title in his first season at the club

B)Mikel Arteta- long term and/or season ending injuries to 8 key players including every striker, still has Arsenal in 2nd

C)Nuno- has taken nottingham from near relegation to 3rd on the table overnight

there is zero argument for leaving arteta out of the top three. there’s not another manager in the league who could have a similar injury crisis and still have his team in second. zero argument for that. we literally don’t even have a striker and yet our 29 year old summer CM signing is second in the league in goals since we moved him to striker. it’s insane.

if you actually want to reward the best coaching job it’s either nuno or arteta. i haven’t even mentioned how many points have been stolen from arsenal. slot winning the league with this liverpool team is nowhere near as impressive as what nuno and arteta have done.

i mean of course you’re allowed to believe that liverpool would still be top 2 on the table having suffered long term and/or season ending injuries to salah, VVD, robertson, mac allister, diaz, konate, jones, and jota- not some of them- all of them. you *are* allowed to believe that. you can’t believe that and be objective, but you can believe it if you want.

nice counter attack goal wins it for everton in extra time. that might be huge for nottingham forest (in a bad way) in their fight for champions league football.

Between drawing Arsenal last week and taking Nottingham this week, your toffees have locked it up for Liverpool. Really feel like the surly Liverpool contingent should send me some bouquets.

Helluva ball by Nwaneri but Tierney was miles off.

i was so happy for KT when i thought the goal counted. i really hope he can find a way to score one more before he leaves arsenal this summer.

nope, and in fact i really think he’s done a super impressive job. i did not foresee liverpool winning the title like this in year one.

that said, liverpool’s injury luck this year compared to the other title contenders has just made it a totally non competitive race for months now. whether you like it or not, it makes the job slot has done less impressive than what nuno and arteta have done (although nuno probably dropped out of the race yesterday).

i mean look, i included slot in my top three- i’m not dissing him, ive got him as a finalist for manager of the year. but i really don’t think that any objective, neutral party could look at slot vs arteta this year and think, “yeah, winning the league with a fully healthy, perennial title contender is more impressive than being in second all year with eight(!!!) long term/season ending injuries to players like odegaard, saka, gabriel, havertz, white, etc, etc. you’re taking about basically 80% of our best players missing 3-8 months with injuries this year. beyond that, our entire attack is based around a)the white-odegaard-saka right side connection, and b)big gabi on set pieces. that’s literally like 80% of our goals, and yet all of those players have missed 3 months at minimum this year, if not twice that. we also have the best defense in the league despite long term injuries to 3/4 starters on our back line. it’s frankly insane how good we’ve been all year having to play partey at rb, two 18 year olds as starters, and mikel merino at striker. it’s truly insane that this patchwork team has been this good.

for me, the only managerial job that sticks out as better than this one is CR running away with the league with leicester, a performance that really stands alone. just imagine liverpool losing salah, VVD, TAA, mac allister, etc for 4 months+ and tell me honestly where liverpool would be on the table. it would not be in second place.

Liverpool has been without Jota, Gakpo, Ibou, TAA, Gomez, Alisson for large chunks of the season so your point about injuries being the reason is just untrue.

You highlighted in your post the reason that Arsenal couldn’t win it this year. Arteta can’t build any sort of consistent scoring attack because his attack is wholly dependent on one guy to make it happen. Without Saka, his teams can’t score. That’s not a badge of honor for him, it’s a problem with his approach.

liverpool’s injury record vs arsenal is not even remotely comparable.

We finished with 82 points last season with worse injuries than Arsenal have this year. Injuries are part of the game. So is your ownership neglecting to bring in forward depth in January. Arsenal/Arteta averaging 1.95ppg with the squad they have this year is not some kind of miracle run. It’s average.

Arsenal have been 9+ points behind Liverpool since October. Before a lot of those guys got injured. And never finished a weekend closer than that since then. They were never in a title race.

Arsenals is worse, but Liverpool have certainly had plenty of their own problems. Slot has found ways to overcome that and still win the league. Arteta has not. That’s the job.

Liverpool has played half this season with a backup at Goalie instead of the best keeper in the world. Thats a pretty big deal. They’ve played half the season with Jarrell Quansah at CB. That’s a big deal.
I dunno why you’re pretending that this is some kind of untenable situation that Arteta has overcome

Arsenal’s most important outfield players, in order of importance:

•saka- out from december to april

•odegaard- out four months

•gabriel- season ending injury

•saliba- healthy 🤞🏼

•havertz- season ending injury

•white- missed 3.5 months, injured again

this doesn’t include major long term injuries to defensive starters timber and calafiore, and our top defensive backup tomiyasu. doesn’t mention gabriel jesus, our second striker, tearing his acl.

when this season started MLS was our fifth string LB, but after injuries to calafiore, timber, tomiyasu, and KT he’s now our starter. ethan nwaneri wasn’t supposed to have a role this year, but after all of the injuries he’s played and started a bunch of matches. we historically suck with partey at rb, and yet he’s been having to start there because we have so many injuries to defenders.

i’m sorry, but you’re being an unabashed homer if you think that liverpool could sustain injuries like this (lose all of your goals and every defender not named konate for 3-9 months, plus 4-5 more first team players) and still have the best defense in the league while staying in second all season. you’re going out of your way to downplay this incredible managerial performance by arteta. i’m sorry, but y’all could not lose salah, vvd, taa, mac allister, and again, pretty much every defender not named konate, plus all of your other goal scorers, then finish second with the best defense is the epl, and *not* be absolutely floored by what an amazing managerial performance that is.

I’m absolutely not floored by the job Arteta has done this year. And neither are 80% of the fans on AFTV. They want him gone after next season if he doesn’t win big silverware. Look, I’m happy for Arsenal if they win the CL this year. But that’s a big ask for them.

Arteta’s spent £800mn since he’s been there and won 1 FA Cup (with Emery’s roster).
