Guy loses 3 straight and finishes 8-4 with nothing special to show for it, and lands a new contract paying him $9M a year. I remember when he was hired by the Raiders while failing at USC. The article in something like the LAT or SFChronicle was titled "The Man Who Fell Upward" and, boy, did they get that right. I like him as a troll on twitter and foil to some of the other SEC clowns, but he's truly nothing special.

USC was 23-3 with him as an OC before he left to the Raiders that is not exactly failing

If I'm CU, I tell Deion that we're not negotiating against every job that may come your way. Either accept our offer, make a counter-offer or we're looking elsewhere.

That's like a fat chick telling a popular guy he needs to make a decision on the prom now , or she's out.

I'm sure no fucks are given.

Normally Feldman is reliable, but Fatterson to UNLV?

Why in the fuck would he take multiple steps down to coach that shit hole program that is +1000 miles from where he normally recruits, which is Texas.

Because he gives zero fucks and money and location are good. Want to know more?.....certain....certain....Attractions.

From what I heard from a pretty reliable source, after he went 77-13 from 2005-2011 and 47-5 from 2008-2011 at TCU and interviewed at Nebraska and Tennessee, he came off as so friggin' weird they didn't seriously consider him after interviewing, even with that record. Makes sense because years later he complained that he didn't get the job because these teams want a coach who can "win the podium". Word must have gotten out b/c his name does not seem to come up as much as someone who went 47-5 and finished 7, 6, and 2 at TCU over those four years should, IMO. Still would be surprised if nobody offers, though.

Is freeze a sex offender? Maybe I missed something? He called for a hooker? Did he have sex with an underaged girl and get convicted as a sex offender? I keep seeing people say this and maybe I missed something is the story?

Here at Surly, we don’t care about legal records, only our court of public opinion. We’re offended because he had sex and was able to pay her to leave for a nominal fee. Therefore, he is sex offender.

Freeze is creepy and slimy and will continue to be so at AU. He is also dumb as fuck, since he decided to do all his hooker calls on a fucking university issued cell phone.

in summary he is a water headed moron that can put together a pretty solid offensive game plan. If he doesn’t right the ship quickly, he will get the Jeremy Pruitt treatment and be shown the door. That is if he doesn’t get busted cornholing the Dean’s daughter on the 50 yd line of Jordan Hare. Either way I am here for the entertainment that will result from this hire.

Sources: UAB has reached agreement with Trent Dilfer

JOHN BRICE    1 HOUR AGO

Trent Dilfer and UAB have reached an agreement for the Super Bowl-winning quarterback to lead the Blazers football program, sources told FootballScoop on Wednesday. UAB is planning to announce the hire later today.

FootballScoop first reported the news of Dilfer and UAB working toward his hiring on Tuesday.

UAB players published an open letter  earlier in the day on Tuesday, decrying their lack of input in the coaching search and arguing for interim Bryant Vincent to be named the program's full-time head coach. The Blazers went 6-6 this season and await their bowl destination.

Dilfer, 50, has never coached at the college level. He currently coaches Lipscomb Academy in Tennessee; the team plays for a state championship on Thursday.

After returning from a self-imposed death penalty in 2016, UAB won Conference USA championships in 2018 and 2020 and played for another in 2019 under former head coach Bill Clark. Clark stepped down over the summer due to health concerns. The Blazers will step up into the American Athletic Conference starting next season.

Dilfer played for five NFL teams from 1994-07, piloting the Baltimore Ravens to a Super Bowl title in 2000. Since his retirement, he has remained involved in the game as an ESPN NFL analyst and as the head coach of the Elite 11 quarterback camp.

West Virginia fans blast Neal Brown, call for ouster after latest loss

Keith Farner | 6 days ago

Neal Brown is in big-time struggle mode at West Virginia, and not even changing quarterbacks could change the fortunes of the Mountaineers.

Brown benched JT Daniels in favor of Garrett Greene, but WVU still fell to Kansas State on Saturday, 48-31.

West Virginia (4-7, 2-6) failed to become bowl eligible for the second time under Brown and for only the fourth time since 2000.

It could be the final home game for Brown, who has a 21-25 record with 4 years remaining on his contract. It’s been a season of turnover already as Athletics Director Shane Lyons was fired last week.

Here’s the reaction:

Hillbillies are pissed... 😂😂😂😂

Neal Brown reportedly safe for another season at West Virginia

DOUG SAMUELS    1 HOUR AGO

The 2022 West Virginia football season was one filled with some good wins, but also some rather disappointing losses for Neal Brown.

The Mountaineers lost some close ones, including to rival Pitt and Kansas to open the season 0-2, and also lost handily to Texas Tech, Iowa and Kansas State as the year went on.

Without an athletic director, as the school parted ways with Shane Lyons a few weeks ago, questions about the job security of Neal Brown have been getting louder and louder for a while now.

With new athletic director Wren Baker coming to Morgantown from North Texas, there is reportedly some clarity on Brown's job status atop the program.

Ross Dellenger tweets that, while many may have expected a head coaching following a disappointing 5-7 fourth season for Brown, his job is believed to be safe and he will remain the leader of the program for 2023, "barring an unforeseen snag."

Neal Brown signed a six-year deal upon his arrival in Morgantown, and after going 11-11 in his first two seasons, former AD Shane Lyons signed him to a two-year extension taking him through 2026.

Under that new extension if Brown were to be fired before December 31, 2024, he would be due a buyout equal to 100% of his remaining contract. Meaning, if the school would have parted ways with him after this season, would amount to about $16 million.

Lyons, who has since landed on his feet within athletic administration at Alabama, has taken a lot of heat for the deal in the last several months, as results on-the-field are not what the Morgantown faithful had hoped for, but for now it appears that with a 22-25 record, and a 14-21 mark in Big 12 play, Brown will get the 2023 under a new AD to further prove the trajectory of Mountaineer football is heading in the right direction.

It's a lot harder to predict who's going to be good and bad anymore with all the one-year rentals available.  WVU has playing time to sell.  The QB who they went to at the end of the year (who got a concussion against OSU) is a really good athlete and could end up being an upgrade over the cement shoes journeyman they had.  Many of their games were competitive and we've seen that it doesn't take years of development to push a team over the hump in this league (or vice versa).

I see CU as an easier resurrection than UNL. Their location/setting is spectacular and the facilities look to be top notch. There are only so many TVs and sleep pods you can squeeze into a building

Colorado's problem (or rather one of their problems) is their location was awesome when they were recruiting against Iowa State and Texas Tech and Oklahoma State, but ho-hum now that they are recruiting against UCLA and Washington and Arizona State.  They also don't have the niche of being the only mountain school in the Pac 12 for kids who might be interested in that like they did in the Big 12 since Utah provides another mountain option plus a competent football program.

I said late last week that a buddy of mine, who was a captain for the Hoopies, and still in the know said Thanksgiving night that he was of the mind that Brown was not going to get fired. I think if he was it would have already happened. Plus, I don’t think WVU has a pile of money to just pay off coaches.

Prime at USF seems like best chance to really show off a rebuild and have success if USF has enough alumni to put together a decent NIL program.

Colorado is a tough job for success and following Fickell at Cincy not necessarily an easy thing to do.

Sources: Interviews ongoing at Cincinnati to include Ohio State assistant Brian Hartline; Luke Fickell's Wisconsin staff taking shape

JOHN BRICE             1 HOUR AGO

Continuing the process of finding a replacement for Luke Fickell who can guide the Cincinnati Bearcats’ program into the future, which includes Big 12 residency for the outgoing American Athletic Conference member, Bearcats athletics director John Cunningham is conducting ongoing interviews for the head football post.

Already Cunningham has conducted formal interviews with the program’s top two in-house candidates, offensive coordinator Gino Guidugli and special teams coordinator Kerry Coombs.

Those interviews took place earlier this week in the immediate aftermath of Fickell’s abrupt departure Sunday to take over the Wisconsin Badgers’ program, which earlier this fall had fired veteran head coach Paul Chryst.

While several additional candidates have emerged for the Bearcats’ head job, sources on Wednesday told FootballScoop that there has been a gain in momentum for star Ohio State assistant coach Brian Hartline.

Sources told FootballScoop that Cincinnati’s formal interview with Hartline was expected to take place in the near future, perhaps as soon as Thursday.

A former standout player for the Buckeyes who logged a seven-year NFL career and has spent the past six seasons on staff at his alma mater, Hartline has molded the Buckeyes’ wide receivers group into the sport’s current “Wide Receiver U.” He’s a former FootballScoop Wide Receivers Coach of the Year recipient and this past season ascended to the role of passing game coordinator amid carving a reputation as arguably college football’s preeminent wide receivers coach.

Hartline again has a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award in standout Marvin Harrison Jr. and has tutored multiple first-round NFL Draft picks in the previous few seasons.

Among the additional candidates, sources told FootballScoop, are Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter – who has obvious deep ties to the program with his father, Rick, the former head coach, as well as James Madison’s Curt Cignetti and Tennessee offensive coordinator Alex Golesh. A finalist this year for the Broyles Award, Golesh, like Hartline, is an Ohio State graduate. He began his coaching career in the high school ranks in Ohio, earned a spot as a student assistant on staff with Jim Tressel and worked at Toledo, among other career stops.

--------------------------------------------

Additionally, sources told FootballScoop that Fickell planned to take at least four additional members of his Bearcats’ staff to join his inaugural staff at Wisconsin. Sources told FootballScoop that defensive coordinator Mike Tressel, wideouts coach/passing game coordinator Mike Brown and co-defensive coordinator/safeties coach Colin Hitschler all are expected to join Fickell in Madison.

Additionally, Guidugli is a prime target to be the Badgers’ next offensive coordinator on Fickell’s staff – if Guidugli does not earn the Bearcats’ full-time head coaching post.

Bearcats chief of staff Greg Gillum also is expected to join Fickell at Wisconsin in a similar role. Gillum is a 40-plus-year veteran who logged more than a decade on staff at Ohio State and also coached collegiately at Akron, among other stops throughout Ohio.
