I mean, shit, they need to hire Charlie Strong for DC to make it a total fucking disaster.

Why not Manny _iaz?  Durkin? Addazio as LB corch?

They do seem intent on burning the place down. This is spectacular.

Well just 48 hrs ago I said Bjork was the most wtf hire by a blue blood I can remember.   And here we are with this hire one upping that one.  Holy shit.

To be fair it was equally wtf when Saban hired him

Bjork already has his replacement in mind.

I totally forgot about this. This only makes the Jimbo failure that much more surprising. With advanced QB coaching like this who could have imagined things would end they way they did.

Haha, I'm probably missing some things here but last year Ryan Day, coming off back to back Michigan losses, brought an elite undefeated squad to Ann Arbor. Quite probably the second or third best team in the land, depending on them vs. Georgia. He put up the stiffest fight of any Michigan opponent this past season, more than the national finalist and arguably Bama, and anyone dating back to TCU last year. His QB threw for more yards and TDs than any other Michigan opponent. They scored more than any other Michigan opponent. It was only a last second INT on a drive to win the game against Michigan that took them down, and the QB was hit on the play.

In the aftermath of this, he has decided to:

  • run off his rising senior incumbent QB who finished 14th nationally in passer rating.
  • run off his rising senior WR who was arguably the best blocking WR in the country.
  • run off his starting center.
  • take a new center who can't snap (lol).
  • take a new power run QB who lost his first battle to Adrian Martinez and lost a second round of PT to Avery Johnson.
  • take a malcontent running back who the entire Ole Miss offense shoved into the portal after a stepback season.
  • add zero tackles.
  • add zero guards.
  • add zero tight ends.
  • fire the Special Teams coach whose unit was always SP+ top-20.
  • fire the QB coach whose recruiting + position performance was always national top-3.
  • fire the safeties coach for seemingly no reason.
  • publicly cuck program luminary and WR coach Brian Hartline, who many argue is the best in the business when you consider recruiting and development (MHJr, Olave, Wilson, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, etc.).
  • hire Bill O'Brien off one of the worst offenses in NFL history.

Am I missing anything? Crazier things have worked but gottdamn Ryan, that's an, uh, interesting offseason.

New Buckeyes running backs coach Carlos Locklyn: "This is the worst coached position in football. It's terrible."

DOUG SAMUELS         8 HOURS AGO

Just because Carlos Locklyn has just three years of official on-field experience at Western Kentucky, and Oregon prior to joining Ryan Day's staff in Columbus doesn't mean it was his first time sharing knowledge with running backs.

Locklyn told reporters recently at Ohio State that during his time off the field in roles at Memphis and Florida State he mentored a number of big-time backs and didn't need the title of running backs coach to develop guys at a position he's very passionate about.

In fact, Locklyn believes the running backs position is the worst coached position in football, a job that is too often handed to guys that are labeled as elite recruiters.

"I know you all ain't heard me say it before, but I'm going to keep saying it - this is the worst coached position in football. It's terrible."

"Guys hire anybody to coach this position that are recruiters. Carlos Locklyn is not a recruiter. I am an elite relationship builder. I coach this position and I'm a ball coach."

"That's who I am. I'm going to pour into these kids, and I think they're kind of seeing it now. I jumped in from Day 1 and I am ready to coach."

Hear more from the Buckeyes new running backs coach in the clip.

Ohio State quarterback Will Howard agrees: Title or bust for Buckeyes in 2024

Ohio State's two previous coaches and now its presumptive starting quarterback are in agreement that it's time for Ryan Day to bring a national championship to Columbus.

ZACH BARNETT       2 HOURS AGO

When last we left Ohio State, both of Ryan Day's predecessors were giving the Buckeyes' rabid fan base permission to blame him if the 2024 outfit did not win a national championship.

"As of now this is one of the most talented rosters in the last decade, maybe ever," Urban Meyer said. "I mean, that's a big statement. They've got to play. But you look at the quality of athlete at every position, I've never seen anything like it."

Meyer hyperbolizes like he breathes, but the notoriously conservative Jim Tressel agreed.  "I don't know if I've ever seen that many great players in that building all at once -- every position, every place you turn," Tressel added.

Now, Ohio State's presumptive starting quarterback agreed.  “For us, it’s natty or bust,” Will Howard said this week at the Manning Passing Academy. “I mean, there’s no doubt in my mind.”

A graduate transfer via Kansas State, Howard heads a quarterback room where he'll have to beat out junior Devin Brown (the No. 5 QB in the class of 2022), sophomore Lincoln Kienholz (No. 11 in 2023), and true freshman Julian Sayin and Air Noland, both top 60 players in the class of 2024.

At running back, Howard (or whomever beats him out) will hand to the best 1-2 running back punch in the country in TreVeyon Henderson and Ole Miss transfer Quinshon Judkins, and throw to the most stacked wide receiver unit in the game: Brian Hartline's unit boasts seven top-100 recruits and three 5-stars, led by No. 1 overall recruit Jeremiah Smith.

Calling plays will be the most over-qualified offensive coordinator in college football in Chip Kelly.

And then there's the defense, led by all-world safety Caleb Downs and a defensive line that could've put multiple players in the NFL if not for, ahem, reasons.

“We have all the talent. We have all the intangibles,” Howard said. “Now, we’ve just got to go do it. I’m tired of hearing how talented we are and how good our team is. It’s about the work ethic and how we go to work every single day, and I think we’re doing the things that we need to to put ourselves in that position to be there at the end of the year and now we’ve just got to go do it.”

Howard isn't saying anything outrageous or egregious. If anything, the outrageous thing would be to argue that Ohio State does not have one of the greatest collections of college football talent we've ever seen.

But his quarterback coming to a logical conclusion simply adds another voice to the choir of people agreeing Ryan Day needs to come through in 2024 or... bust.

Question- on Klatt’s podcast interview with Ryan Day, Klatt would ask a question that referenced the Michigan game and Day would reply about “the rivalry game”. Do the Buckeyes have an Aggy-like tradition of not saying “Michigan”?

Yes, they refuse to call it Michigan and call it “That Team Up North.” They also use red tape to put an X on every M on campus the week of the game.

Ohio State just signed an OL class of 3 guys, with 1 being an OT. The OT was in the top 100 while the IOLs were outside of the top 300. This is basically what OSU does every year.

Ohio State just got its ass whipped on the OL front against Michigan. Ryan Day is facing serious questions about the OL depth on the team due to a rash of injuries and some of the lower ranked JAGs having to now play a bunch. They're now forced into playing true freshmen, who are not Kelvin Banks types, due to depth issues.

Day's already fired one OL coach and now he's being pressured to do it again. Is it the OLC or is it Day? They've under-recruited that unit since Day took over. They always have highly ranked classes with a lot of flash at QB, DB, and WR while quietly under-signing OL groups with very few stars.

For comparison, in the last 4 cycles, Texas has signed 18 guys while OSU signed 15. Georgia signed 22. Texas and Georgia signed multiple top 150 guys compared to Ohio State, who signed just 2.

While it's not as bad at Bama, they're trending towards the same kind of problem. They've signed 15 over that same 4 year span, however the quality compared to Ohio State's pulls isn't close. Bama has signed many top 150 OLs in that group. Still, depth and development matters. Bama's had plenty of OL problems themselves.

Anyway, I expect to Ohio State to fold-up against the first front 7 worth a shit that they find in the playoffs. If they open against Tennessee, that could be it. Fun times for us, really.
