I did Killeen to Seattle in 4 days, and I didn’t go through Denver because it was  December so I went over on 10 and all the way up 5. Impressed?

I did Ft Worth - Seattle in 4 days in February on a Suzuki 750. Took basically the same route with a few desert shortcuts. It rained from El Paso to Portland.

Less interesting than reading this thread but this article pretty much sums up everything here:

AUSTIN, Texas — The daughter of a former University of Texas baseball player has allegedly been found safe after she was reported missing Aug. 22.

On Tuesday morning, the Travis County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) said 29-year-old Brenna Swindell "is alive and well."

According to the TCSO, she was with her ex-boyfriend, Morgan Guidry, who has since been arrested on a warrant and taken into custody.

Swindell was allegedly located in Klamath Falls, Oregon. According to Sgt. Maury Smith, Swindell and Guidry were driving through the town at approximately 12:37 a.m. PST when law enforcement said the vehicle's license plate showed up as stolen.

The Klamath Falls Police Department reportedly performed a high risk stop, when they found Guidry's warrants and Swindell's missing person status.

Guidry was taken into custody, and Swindell reportedly did not have any apparent injuries.

Brenna Swindell's father also shared a post to X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, "She has been found. That’s all we have for now. Thank you to everyone. And I mean everyone who helped in the process."

Background details
Before she was reportedly found safe, 29-year-old Brenna Swindell was seen Thursday night at Poodie's Hilltop Roadhouse in Spicewood, which is about 25 miles west of Austin.

According to police, Brenna Swindell was at the bar with Guidry. Both of them had not been seen since that night and police said their phones were turned off since Friday.

Their white 2022 Kia Carnival, with Texas license plate number VFS 7528, may have also been seen in Colorado. The Travis County Sheriff's Office took over the investigation.

Her father, former Houston Astros pitcher and Texas Longhorn Greg Swindell, and her mother, Sarah Swindell, had both been posting updates to their social media pages.

"Our daughter Brenna Swindell has not been seen or heard from in the Austin area since late Thursday afternoon," Sarah Swindell shared to Facebook on Sunday. "Her phone is off and she has not been in contact with family, friends and most importantly her children."

Arrest warrant filed for Brenna Swindell's ex
New details emerged Monday after an arrest warrant was filed the day after their disappearance.

The documents obtained by KVUE reveal Guidry is wanted in connection to an assault of a family member.  The documents claim Guidry strangled his girlfriend multiple times with both hands on July 7, 2024. He also slammed his girlfriend's head on the ground and yanked her earring, causing her to bleed, according to the documents.

Guidry's girlfriend ran for the door to leave and knocked over a box of ammunition after Guidry allegedly grabbed his rifle. When deputies checked the home, Guidry and the rifle were gone, but loose ammo was spotted on the floor.

Brenna Swindell is not named in the document, but the Travis County Sheriff's Office confirmed that she was the victim of the incident.

KVUE spoke with Guidry's dad, Morgan Guidry Sr. over the phone. He said his son left notes behind. One read "I went back to spend one last night with her." The other note read, "Off to travel the world heart Morgan + Brenna, see you on the other side."

His dad also said he did not believe it was a distressing situation and that he "loves and misses" his son.

Here's a release from KHOU https://www.khou.com/article/news/local/missing/missing-woman-austin-colorado-astros-pitcher/285-11d3c0a7-3583-4be8-8edb-7070dc65d879

Police in Klamath Falls, Oregon, said the two were driving through the town when officers identified the vehicle as stolen and pulled them around 12:37 a.m. Tuesday. Officers arrested Guidry on his outstanding warrant. They said Brenna showed no signs of injury or trauma.

Before Tuesday, Austin police said Brenna, 29, had last been seen at 10:20 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at Poodies Hilltop Bar in Spicewood, Texas. Police said she was with Guidry.

Was she under duress? If she did any of this voluntarily then fuck her and I hope the state takes the kids

So, she wasn't really missing? Otherwise the boyfriend would've been arrested for something other than outstanding warrants.

Since the bf was not (yet?) charged with kidnapping, I would guess that she choose to join him in the road trip. Maybe she really wanted to see Mt Hood.

The closest Surly has come to solving a mystery was hotel carpet/curtains in the Urban Meyer thread. That was our peak. It’s all downhill jumping the shark shit from here on out.

Definitely something the Rainey St Ripper would say…

Oooooops.

You weren’t out of line in the least. It was exactly what your intuition told you it was. Shitty mom goes on joyride with shitty dude. Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

I'll admit, I had the same thoughts but I kept them to myself out of respect for the worried parents and the UT community. Glad this didn't end with murder, but I'm also expecting to be upset if we find out she was totally cool with abandoning her children and making everyone worry sick about her.

so what actually happened other than she went on a road trip with her ex to Oregon?

phones were off, okay odd but whatever.

he's got a warrant, okay maybe looks like he's fleeing.

but nothing suggests she was kidnapped. She was at the fucking bar with him for christsakes.

swindells seem a bit hysterical to me tbqh.

This.. I pointed out it was never clarified many times. But here we are..

School should've already started when she and meth head took off on their Mt Hood sight seeing trip. So I assume kids were left with sitter or family member in their Austin area home. I'm too lazy to look up where she lives.

Boyfriend had domestic violence charges against daughter who is abandoning her children to drive to the northern border with him in a stolen car after leaving a crazy note on either post-its or Manila paper. Drugs. Her mom was probably freaking out because she’s always freaking out because her daughter is an addict doing addict things and that will make you crazy and hysterical, especially if you’re already weird and crazy to begin with.

Turning off phones would be a typical reaction to an intrusive parent. Mom, understandably, is probably very much against the relationship. Daughter, as is sadly typical of abusive relationships, is still in "love". Couple of drinks in, they came to the "logical" conclusion to road trip to the coast or wherever together.

Mom reacted a bit hysterically, but debatable on over reaction, reasonable or hysterical given the assault.

Knowing the situation with the children would clarify a planned run away or drug/booze fueled escape from crazy mom.

Best guess is drug fueled "love escape", but children situation tells a big part of the story. (Not giving up on that point as it matters a lot)

If your daughter was acting very much out of character and the last thing you heard was that she was with a guy who had roughed her up a month ago, it's not hysterical to be worried

Was the daughter acting out of character? That's a pretty big logical leap.

I’m going to go out on a limb here, but I’ll take a guess that this behavior isn’t very much out of character for these two little love birds. I thought it was telling that the dad of the woman beater seemed concerned, but very much not hysterical.

Dad of daughter was pretty quiet about it too.

The vast majority came from mom, who aligned one of her child's autism to vaccines.

I'm more confused why the DAs office let him out on a 3rd degree Felony from early July, then finally issue the warrant on the 23rd.  I read somewhere she decided to press charges on Aug 20th, which still took three days to get the warrant through.  Combination of shitty humans, shitty DAs office not doing their job on a f3 case, and media digging in on this one.

I don’t think it’s up to the victim to decide whether or not to press charges in DV cases.

yeah but how do you prove it without a cooperative victim

No doubt, Chris Beard.

Regarding her possible "abandonment" of her kids, that's not really a thing if she lacks custody for those days.  Not staying in touch with them sucks, though.

This too. For all we know the father had the children throughout per a custody agreement. Maybe dad has full custody.Maybe mom was watching then, grandpa, who knows.

We don't.. that's who doesn't. Grumble grumble

Now that she's safe, I feel less shitty about my initial thoughts when this story broke.  Here's the article again that Twice linked on first page of thread: https://www.durangoherald.com/articles/farmington-high-school-grad-tells-a-story-of-forgiveness/

Read that, and Brenna Swindell's issues make a lot more sense. Serious red flags everywhere that clearly were never properly addressed. Generational trauma is a bitch.

If the witnesses isn’t willing to testify/press, DA will often walk away unless third party witnessed. There are a lot of mitigating factors involved. Generally, in a more conservative state/county/city without the witness prosecutor isn't going to waste the cycles as jury will acquit. But I'm not a lawyer, I just play one on Surly threads.

Legal firm position for more detail

Bad boys don't always end up on a cross country road trip in a Kia with their girlfriend.   But they do get a whole lot of women to fall in love/lust/like with them.

Dude, even the Kia boys wouldn't steal that ugly station wagon thing. That thing is truly for people who've given up on life.

You know man.. it's starting to seem like Greg had a pretty solid plan for having some fun prior to his time in the clink. Didn't put miles on his car, free one way ticket home. Rude company for a beautiful road trip. ...I'd have some begrudging respect for him were it not for that whole woman beating thing.

I'm really not trying to slam you man, but how do you come to the conclusion she never planned to return.

It's not unreasonable to think that MIGHT have occurred or been the plan, but this really looks more like an impulsive choice by 2 not so logical people who were "in love"for a road trip prior to potential court issues.

It was hers. It wasn't stolen.

How often does someone skip town without telling anyone and deliberately turns their phone off for the entire trip?
