re: Jordan

Princess Salma (a USC grad) pilots the F-16, and is taking part in the exercise.    I'm getting reports that she didn't get her mom's looks.

The kid reports that every officer that he's interacted speaks fluent English, and most attended college here.

Nice.

Anybody been stationed at Carson? Looks like my kid and his bride might be headed there for a few years.

Son has been there for 4 years when he is not deployed. Colorado Springs is growing rapidly only major drawbacks are the amount of homeless and hail storms.

So does he like it?

I'm sure it beats the alternative.

Yes He has enjoyed his time at Carson. Only an hour or so from Denver plus lots of good outdoor activities. Colorado Springs has just about everything you need. He just says that Denver has better clubs.

Tom was previously at Kadena for 4 years, so he's very familiar and has friends there.  He got married there, and we went to the wedding.  It's a nice spot.

Did they ever clear the sunken  WW2 US Navy ammo ship that was in a no-go zone out in the middle of the bay?

I don't know, I will ask next time I see him.

Meanwhile, my kid returned from his deployment in Kuwait today.  His 5 year old was very happy to see him.

In 1918, on the 11th day of the 11th month of the year, at 11:11 AM, the armistice ending the hostilities  of WWI was signed. Thus, we began to observe Armistice Day.

After the experience of WWII and the Korean Conflict, the US Congress changed the day of observance to honor all Veterans.

This day was originally instituted as a holiday to celebrate a hard-earned peace.  That is what I wish for my fellow Veterans today.  Peace.

Matthew 5:9

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

Also… if you really want to support our troops, strive to be the kind of American worth fighting for.

Well put.

I'm taking my son to DC in a couple of weeks and we will go see The Wall. I'm already getting emotional about it and I'm not really sure how I'm going to hold it together when he makes a rubbing of his Grandfather's name.  I'm sorry, I didn't know where else to put this but I know the posters on this thread will understand.

Cpt Bearschlong flew in from Ft Benning, I picked him up at IAH at 5pm last night, hooked up a trailer in college station, and drove straight through to Ft Carson. No bad weather and it dumped 6 inches the moment we arrived.

Congratulations.

very few things are better in life than seeing things go well for your kids, especially that type of situation.

I still regret not taking your kid for a fine dining experience at Guacaholic in Fayeteville. I know our sons must have mutual friends in the CAB. Would have loved to shake that young man’s hand.

Sadly mine is now in a SF advisory role at Carson. But hey, the off-post Korean food slams and goes hard.

I’m taking my son to see his Grandfather’s name on The Wall in the next few days. I’m not sure how I’m going to react.

My kid just had a cool adventure.  They flew commercial to PHX, toured the Boeing factory, and then flew new birds back home to NC.  The factory Apaches aren't fitted with extra fuel tanks (yet), so they had to stop every few hours for fuel.  It took 3 days of flying to get home.  Lots of seat time, and he saw some cool sights and took cool photos.
