re: Jordan

Princess Salma (a USC grad) pilots the F-16, and is taking part in the exercise.    I'm getting reports that she didn't get her mom's looks.

The kid reports that every officer that he's interacted speaks fluent English, and most attended college here.

Nice.

Anybody been stationed at Carson? Looks like my kid and his bride might be headed there for a few years.

Son has been there for 4 years when he is not deployed. Colorado Springs is growing rapidly only major drawbacks are the amount of homeless and hail storms.

So does he like it?

I'm sure it beats the alternative.

Yes He has enjoyed his time at Carson. Only an hour or so from Denver plus lots of good outdoor activities. Colorado Springs has just about everything you need. He just says that Denver has better clubs.

Tom was previously at Kadena for 4 years, so he's very familiar and has friends there.  He got married there, and we went to the wedding.  It's a nice spot.

Did they ever clear the sunken  WW2 US Navy ammo ship that was in a no-go zone out in the middle of the bay?

I don't know, I will ask next time I see him.

Meanwhile, my kid returned from his deployment in Kuwait today.  His 5 year old was very happy to see him.

In 1918, on the 11th day of the 11th month of the year, at 11:11 AM, the armistice ending the hostilities  of WWI was signed. Thus, we began to observe Armistice Day.

After the experience of WWII and the Korean Conflict, the US Congress changed the day of observance to honor all Veterans.

This day was originally instituted as a holiday to celebrate a hard-earned peace.  That is what I wish for my fellow Veterans today.  Peace.

Matthew 5:9

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

Also… if you really want to support our troops, strive to be the kind of American worth fighting for.

Well put.

I'm taking my son to DC in a couple of weeks and we will go see The Wall. I'm already getting emotional about it and I'm not really sure how I'm going to hold it together when he makes a rubbing of his Grandfather's name.  I'm sorry, I didn't know where else to put this but I know the posters on this thread will understand.

Of of the few times I have seen my dad cry is at the wall. One name got him.

It is an emotional place. (but the family guy skit still cracks me up.)

He is in the Air Force so nothing like that is necessary. Mainly stuff like this.

Cpt Bearschlong flew in from Ft Benning, I picked him up at IAH at 5pm last night, hooked up a trailer in college station, and drove straight through to Ft Carson. No bad weather and it dumped 6 inches the moment we arrived.

Son Ets'd from Carson in November. Always had a good time visiting him in Colorado Springs.

Congratulations.

very few things are better in life than seeing things go well for your kids, especially that type of situation.

I still regret not taking your kid for a fine dining experience at Guacaholic in Fayeteville. I know our sons must have mutual friends in the CAB. Would have loved to shake that young man’s hand.

Sadly mine is now in a SF advisory role at Carson. But hey, the off-post Korean food slams and goes hard.

I’m taking my son to see his Grandfather’s name on The Wall in the next few days. I’m not sure how I’m going to react.

Agreed. Awful. I couldn’t imagine that call.

I grabbed a few hours with my soldier at Ft. Polk/Johnson on Sunday; enough time to eat Crawfish in Deridder before his TDY ended. SF treats their guys like adults.

Finally found the 4th soldiers body. Condolences to the families.

The "dignified transfer ceremony" was today at Dover.  The Commander In Chief didn't attend.  He is at a dinner in Florida for the Bonesaw Golf League. Priorities and whatnot.

I had a long discussion with my son about the Air Force. He seemed genuinely intrigued. I’d be beyond happy if he actually went through with it. I think it would do him very very well. I will wish I had joined until the day I die.

I won’t go CR, but these days, I’d want my kids as far away from the US military as possible.

Why?  It's not like a fucking alcoholic weekend anchorman from a shitty network is in charge of the whole thing.

GF's son was active USAF.  Served in Okinawa (where he met his wonderful wife), and did the Air National Guard thing after that.  He's taken full advantage of his VA benefits, to his credit.  He holds a Masters now, and his post USAF career has been SpaceX to Gulfstream to Clay Lacy to a private owner of a G650 which he manages as the "mechanic"....he schedules and oversees all maintenance, either routine or non-routine.

When he joined the USAF, he was "almost" done with his Bachelor's.   He had run out of the money that his trust had set-aside for his education, so, without informing either parent, he went to the recruiting office.

He took the ASVAB, and, was eligible for most of the jobs due to his high score.  He wanted to work on airplanes, particularly on the electronics.  The job he wanted wasn't airplane specific.  It included working on planes, or working on airports; the radars, lights, etc.   He was smart enough to look at the fine print, and the airfield job required a driver's license.   He intentionally ditched his DL before showing up to basic training, and told everybody that he didn't know how to drive.  So, he cemented his position working on actual aircraft.

It would be a horrible crime of my kid was laid off from the army.  He owes them several more years due to his flight school contract. He'd be jobless, with a family.  Oh the horror if he had to go to American Airlines, or United, or Southwest, etc.   I'd rather he rejoin infantry before going to Spirit, but it's kinda the same thing.

Even though you never served, you have a MUCH better understanding than most of what the life/ culture entails.

I will say as a father I worried 80 billion X's about my kids than I ever did about my own time in.  That's just what fathers do.  It's NEVER "just a training exercise."

Pay is the same across the board and all of the branches have their BS, but the Big Blue Corporation has the best facilities and chow (Navy is a close 2nd). Keep your nose clean, play the game, and you come to realize that joining the world's most lethal Air Force is/was not a bad place to start. I was only in for 5 yrs some 40 yrs ago, but benefits from that time in service still keep popping up.

In some of the worst locations.  Minot, North Dakota?  Altus, OK?

At least in the canoe club you are likely going to be near a coast.

Just finished 20 plus years. Both sides E and O. If he has questions holler.
