Yeah, playing in conference championship games is not necessarily an advantage to winning the CFP National Championship.

it's the playoff game for a bye, but the loser gets no bye week, unlike the 3rd place team that didn't make the CCG, gets a bye week AND hosts the wildcard with no travel

so for the b1g and sec it's a real faafo proposition HOWEVER it makes the league a fuckton they don't have to share with anyone else which trumps the downside for the ccg loser

for the mid2 and g5 it's only way to sort out their mess

what are the options to do away with it at 12 and 16?

Maybe when they go to 16 CFP playoff teams, the 8 teams in Power4 that make their conference championship games are guaranteed a CFP playoff seed no lower than #8 and all receive 1st round home games???

This would guarantee at least 2 spots for both B12 and ACC in the CFP playoffs...🤔

If BYU loses to Arizona State and Boise St wins out there is a strong shot Boise gets the bye week over Big 12 champion

Why do you think the Rig 12 made sure BYU won?

Is it not true that P4 champs get the byes no matter what?

4 highest ranked conf champs get the byes. MWC champ being ranked higher than the Big 12 champ would give them a bye

But that’s apparently only happened a few times ever. Notably 2020 when PAC-12 champ Oregon was ranked low due to lack of games and 2009 with TCU/Boise

That makes sense then, and I like that better.

Honestly, Big 12 is really fun to watch despite the officiating because it's unpredictable. There's commuter campuses, party schools, super religious schools, skyline chili, cornfield schools, couch burners, and former 40-year-olds that have given up on everything. It's as if Stephon from SNL made a CFB conference.

Indiana having OSU on the schedule makes it even fucking dumber that they aren't #2.

None if this even makes a shit anymore anyway. 12 team playoff has made polls kind of irrelevant tbh.

Maybe it shouldn’t matter, but Indiana has played only one team with a winning record.  They’ve played 7 teams with losing records.  Maybe folks are waiting to see how they do at Ohio State, before elevating them.  IU so far has played a Big XIIesque schedule.  If they should be ranked higher because they are undefeated, then by that logic bump up BYU too.

In the AP, IU are essentially tied for 4th with Penn St.  Who should IU replace above that?  Texas, Ohio State, or Oregon?  They’re playing Ohio State and maybe get a shot at Oregon.  We can see then.

I could see them being 4th over Penn State. Not sure I could move them higher than that until they beat Ohio State or someone else loses.

Yep and yep.  Ohio State likely smokes IU and IU likely smokes Card and Purdue.  Irrespective of what I said above, 11-1 for Indiana is pretty amazing.

Certainly possible, but I don't know where you guys are getting your confidence in Ohio St. Nothing against Indiana, glass house and all, but I'm just not sold on Ohio St being "great".  Win by 7 sure.... 21... nada.

I think Indiana can name its score against Purdue.  I've watched almost all Purdue games this year (2 in person) and Purdue is horribad.  The game is at IU and I suspect they'll want to show something on 11/30 after tOSU crushes them the week before.  I'm guessing tOSU will be a 14 point favorite and will win by around 20.  IU will be a 27 point favorite over Purdue and will win by whatever score they want.

Not really about Ohio State being great but Indiana has literally played no one.

FIU 3-6
Western Illinois 3-7
UCLA 4-5
Charlotte 3-6
Maryland 4-5
Northwestern 4-5
Nebraska 5-4
Washington 5-5
Michigan St 4-5
Michigan 5-5

Good showing @oregon probably helps define them more than their wins.

Both played Nebraska (back-2-back weeks) though with varied results:

Yes, so instead we will just make up a bunch of horseshit about how they will get boat raced and then all of the sudden when Indiana is good and plays Ohio state close and maybe even wins everyone in here just says oh no maybe they are good?

Watch some fucking football. Indiana is a good football team. They would fucking smoke Miami who is a bad football team with an insanely good QB.

Against some pretty shitty teams, so far.  They’re IU.  They are not getting the benefit of the doubt until they beat someone for real.  Wait, fuck that, they are getting the benefit of the doubt.  They are essentially tied for 4th with Penn State in the AP.  Again, who do you want them to be above - Texas, Ohio State, Oregon?  Say it.  If they beat Ohio State, and then Oregon, te salut.

Mutual opponents is a failed comparison.

Sure, but it's all we got at this point.  They've both played the same two teams - Nebraska and Michigan St and Indiana fared better against both teams.

I mean Indiana held Michigan St to -36 yards rushing... that's not some we got lucky we're not really good stat no matter who you are playing, especially in a blow out win.

I have watched Indiana a bunch this year.  They are a very good football team: well coached, very disciplined, very experienced. They have 15 or so senior starters on offense and defense.  They have 20 transfer players in the 2-deep.  Last season is irrelevant to this IU team, fwiw (not that you are saying that).

I believe the spread will be tOSU -14.  I alluded to this earlier, but I have a gut feel that tOSU will beat the spread, because of difference in athleticism and home-field.  Perhaps I am giving too mich credit to that.

Now - after thinking about it more, I can see it being closer and/or seeing an IU win.  First, Cignetti is a very good coach; IMO better than Day.  Second, IU does not make a lot of mistakes - they have 7 turnovers all year.  3rd, the discipline and experience should pay off.  4th, you can always count on Will Howard to shoot himself in the foot against good competition.

I want an IU win, and big, btw.

Indiana/UGA and Boise/Ohio St would be the worst games and go to TNT while ND/TN and Bama/Pedo would headline on ESPN.

This would be the worst playoff game in the history of the first year of the playoffs. The only light I see is Ashton Jeanty gashing that shitty fOSU defense for 220+ and 4 tuddy's

Holy shit.  Oregon only beat Michigan State 31-10 at home and gave up 59 yards rushing while IU beat them worse and held them to negative yards rushing.  But, IU gave up more yards passing than Oregon did, so I don’t know.  But wait, IU also beat UCLA worse than Oregon beat UCLA with both games at the Rose Bowl.  So, by your logic doing head to head maybe IU should be ranked above both Oregon and Ohio State or at least be tied with Oregon at No. 1.  But taking the logic further, that also means IU is better than Texas since we’re ranked lower than Oregon and Ohio State.  But, if you think otherwise, then fuck yeah, Texas is No. 1 again and IU is No. 2 or potentially tied at No. 2 with Oregon.

Stupid right?

Now do what I did on another thread and compare the win/loss record of the teams Oregon has beaten. Add to it the scores of common opponents.

A case can be made for IU being behind Oregon.

I already pointed out that IU would, at worst, have the same record as Texas had they played the same schedule.

Yet, somehow, they suck cause they've never won shit before.

Too many people here haven't actually watched IU play. For the record, the defense they run is...wait for it... just like the one Ousux and Georgia ran against Texas.

They're solid at every aspect of the game. They've been every opponent on their schedule. Oh wait.. average IU 43.9 opponents 13.80

So maybe they've played a lack luster schedule but they're OWNING every opponent. Now compare that margins of victory to BYU or Miami. Or Texas or OSU. Look at the win loss records of those schools opponents.

Then tell me again why IU is a shitty team aside from, They haven't been good in the past.

Breaking News, aside from last year, neither has Texas since 2009.

No it's not stupid. It's stupid to think Ohio St is way better than IU and will beat them by 21+.  Might happen sure, but I've seen nothing that would tell me that.

All you other arguments lead me to the teams mentioned being more similar than different and not one being 3+ touchdowns better than the others.

So, you’re now discarding your head to head to argument?  Because you would have an argument with it that IU is also better than Oregon.  If you are now at a subjective argument of I just don’t think Ohio State is better, I’ll go with that Ohio State’s only loss is to the No. 1 team, on the road, by 1 point.  If you think that loss discounts Ohio State, see Texas v OU 2023.  And, they beat No.4 on the road.  Quality fucking opponents.  IU?  Nothing close.  And, I say all this with that I would love for IU to beat Ohio State in Columbus.  They just haven’t yet proven that they can do that with their current resume as opposed to what Ohio State has already done this year.

Calm down man.... I'm not that invested, all I said was I haven't seen anything that makes me thing Ohio St is 21 pts better than Indiana based on what I've watched. That's it, nothing more. Could they be? Sure, I just haven't seen it (apparently Vegas hasn't either).  Time will tell... they get to play and Indiana has two weeks to prepare for them.

Agree.  That’s what I said above.  Let the game be played so they can prove it.  Also, would apply to Oregon if they beat Ohio State.  By the way, I never said Ohio State is 21 points better than IU.  My argument is that IU hasn’t demonstrated they’re better based on their current resume.  Head to head is not an indicator.
