If only. Not only are we ineligible for a bye but it looks like the number five boobie prize is reserved for the loser of the Big ten championship game.  It remains to be seen whether this is The New normal or an aberration with so many one loss teams near the top of one conference.

I thought the second round would maintain standard seeding matchups? In round 1, #5 plays #12, #6 vs #11, #7 vs #10, #8 vs #9.

Winner of #5 vs #12 plays #4 in second round, and so on.

Playoff predictor: https://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/page/cfbplayoffpredictor2024/

Scenario 1: Beat A&M & Georgia
Result: Rematch with Georgia then take out Miami & Alabama

image.thumb.png.d02f6425da6f117570585b2319565129.png

Scenario 2: Beat A&M lose to Georgia
Result: Open with Bama in Austin lose to Bama but lulz at them having Notre Dame win
image.thumb.png.bac48068fbe28c0da7bc86b3e26c39ad.png

Scenario 3: Lose to A&M
Result: We go to Autzen and win then upset Miami before losing to Tennessee (lulz)
image.thumb.png.5f0aa85a87785553bbe8bb618ff037bd.png

Observations:
They seem confident that Tulane is the 12 seed (all 3 times) same with Boise State at the 4 seed.
They have 4 SEC teams in all 3 scenarios with Alabama (wut?), Georgia, & Texas in all and with S Car in 1, Tenneessee in 2.

yes but the 4 seed is the worst conf champ.  they would be ranked #11 or #12 in a 1 thur 12 scenario

Wait, are they suggesting that the Big 12 could get NOBODY in? Lolz

It is the 4th highest ranked conference champion. 12 seed is the 5th.

So, what I said.  I believe the lowest conf champ (of 5) gets their seed, so if the CFP has them ranked (say) 10, they are the 10th seed.

Correct

Yes & correct

I think there is almost no way that could happen, right? Tulane would never get in over Colorado.

I didn't say they would just saying that's what the playoff predictor picked 100% of the time I fucked with it.

OK my assumption was they would never leave out the Big 12 conf champ but I guess who knows.

If the Big XII conference champ has 4 losses, which is one of the crazy possiblities as it stands right now, I think they could very easily get left out for a 1 loss Army or even 2 loss Tulane.

I think the rule is written pretty well currently. There's no need to reserve spots for specific conferences. SEC and BIG will never be in that position, but Big XII and ACC very well could, including this year since the Big XII has gone full chaos these last few weeks.

There may be some hesitation to leave out a P4 champ, and I think the assumption was that they would certainly all be in the top 5. The rules allow them to be excluded, however, and it would be hilarious.

The Big 12 conference champion is guaranteed a spot in the playoffs, as are the ACC, Big 10 and SEC conference champions.  The highest ranked G5 conference champion is also guaranteed a spot in the playoffs.

No.  The 4 highest-ranked conference champions are guaranteed spots 1-4 in order of CFP ranking.  The 5th highest rank champion also gets a spot, seeded at their rank (or #12 at a minimum).

Correct.

Who qualifies for the college football playoff?

The five highest-ranked conference champions and the next seven highest-ranked teams will earn a spot in the 12-team bracket. There is no limit to how many teams from one conference can qualify. The rules also don't guarantee spots for certain conferences. The champions of the Big 12, SEC, ACC and Big Ten will almost certainly routinely qualify, though, along with the highest-ranked champion from the Mountain West, American Athletic Conference, Sun Belt, Mid-American Conference or Conference USA.

There is no minimum ranking requirement for the five highest-ranked conference champions. There could be a conference champion ranked No. 23, for example, that's the fifth highest-ranked league winner and earns a spot in the playoff -- at the expense of the committee's No. 12 team.

so it truly only guarantees a spot for the highest G5 conf champion.  yes I know there would never be a case where 2 of the P4 are left out but I guess 1 being left out is possible.

Let's make it happen this year boys!

THe Big 12 champ winner is going to get a bump.  I will be like NCAA basketball where if you win the conf tourney it helps but losing in the final or even in semi's/quarters doesn't really hurt.

speaking of the conf tournaments in basketball, those are going to be nuts this year.

Not only will they not leave them out, but I believe they'll be no lower than the #4 seed.

Do y'all really believe that the committee will set the precedent of jumping a P4 champ with a non-undefeated G5 team that has no P4 wins and three 1-score conference  wins in the first year of this format?

Nope. There’s no incentive for the Big 12 or ACC to even play this game if their champ gets left out

As discussed in the other thread, there is a scenario where Baylor can win the Big XII CCG and finish with 4 losses. It's a very unlikely scenario but still possible. I'm not sure there would be any valid argument to rank them above 1 loss Boise and 1 loss Army assuming both win out including their CCGs. The odds however strongly favor either BYU, ASU, or ISU being a 2 loss champ in which case they almost certainly get the 4th bye. A three loss CU would be a closer call.

There is no planet where a big 12 champ Colorado gets left out of the playoffs. None, zero, zilch.

If they end up a conference champs with 3 losses I think they are in the playoff but could lose out on the first round bye. Unlikely, but possible. My comment was about the bye.

The Committee will decide that, thank you very much.

The point being that #4 will play the winner of #5 and #12.

yes but #4 wouldn't be #4 at all if you ranked them 1 through 12 at the start like the do in the NCAA tournament.

We win out and somehow Miami jumps us in the seeding?  Seems well thought out.  I assume Danny has CTE.

He's without a doubt the worst when it comes to former QBs who are now analysts. McElroy & Klatt absolutely crush him

If Aggy beat us, went to the SEC Championship and beat Georgia, I can see the CFP not giving a 3 loss SEC Champ one of the top four auto bids.

Not this year, the SEC champ easily gets a bye.

Maybe, hypothetically, if every G5 was 13-0 and the SEC champ had lost to one of them.

The top 4 conference champs get the top 4 seeds. The order is... flexible.

The biggest thing I see is that ACC and XII are not shoo-ins, altough it seems like ACC will be 3rd highest conf champ, but 4th seems like Boise or XII winner, whichever is higher ranked.

Whoever is seeded #5 plays #12, winner plays #4. Reckon #5 is B1G CCG loser or  tOSU or UO, could be Norte Dome. Since #4 is shitty XII or Boise, likely #5 moves on.

The Committee is prolly gonna try to seed to set up SEC-B1G Grande Finale, so no telling. They have a lot of latitude, and the "rules" mostly aren't hard, but they're great for justufucation.

Yeah, its 100% either way. That prediction machine is worthless. We really need to win the SEC championship. Would be very shitty to end up the 6/7 seed after a second loss to Georgia and have to play on much less rest than everyone else.

there was damn sure a power 4 involved in creating the playoff structure

Actually all the conferences and notre dame all met to create the new playoff system.

There used to be a P5 before the Pac12 was dismantled and we left. Notice how the good teams went to the SEC and big10 and the bad teams all went to the ACC and big12.

There isn’t a power 4 it’s the top 4 ranked teams from any conference get put into the top 4 seeds and get a bye (for playing in and winning their conference championship).

Boise State is in the 4th seed if they win out over the big12 champ, and depending on how it plays out the big12 will be lucky to get a 11 or 12 seed.

TLDR: Brett Yormack is a bitch and he’s got the same amount of power as the other 8 conferences below the sec and big10.
