FINAL 2024 CFB polls/rankings - Texas #3/ #4 /#3 (CFP/AP/Coaches)

There’s so many ways this damn committee can land, none of us really have any idea how this will land tomorrow.  I’m listening to national sports talk radio (Fox sports) as I type this and they just had the host debating with some Bama hack making the case for Bama.  The host said something along the lines “Texas’ loss to Georgia today may hurt Bama’s chances of getting in because Texas and SMU basically have the same resume (losing to only valid opponents w/ wins over teams barely in or out of the top 25) and that it would be illogical to put Texas in the playoff and not SMU.  They both agreed Texas should drop below ND & Penn State.  The point is the opinions are endless, and who knows the logic of the committee

Here is my projection:

Oregon - 1

Georgia -2

Arizona St - 3

Boise St -4

Texas 5 - Clemson 12

Penn State 6 - Alabama 11

Notre Dame 7 - Indiana 10

Ohio State 8 - SMU 9

Did the Tenn team plane go down? Did I miss that in the news?

5 or 6 is ideal given you win your home game and you play either Boise or Arizona State in the 2nd round. 7 gets harder because you're playing Georgia a 3rd time.

Yeah as long as SMU makes it in it downs matter if you get 5/6.

So you're dropping Tennessee completely? It's either Alabama or SMU. Not both.

I am confident we would beat them if we play again, but I would rather face them later.

There is literally No reason to drop Texas behind Penn st. At least ND has 1 loss.

no way since we lost in overtime

the committee cannot punish teams who play a championship game. if so, just axe the fucking event

Really?  Because I think they are absolutely going to axe SMU and Iowa State already got the axe

We're pretty much locked in to either ASU or Boise in the quarters right?

Either one seems like a better draw than a lot of other teams. As long as we avoid Bama in the opening round, us losing the SEC championship game definitely helped us.

Clemson or SMU in the 1st round and ASU or Boise in the quarters is a beautiful draw.

the most fuckery would be making Bama "prove themselves" by playing us. Then an SEC team gets eliminated.  Bama wins..see we were right.  Bama loses, well we made them play the "3/4" seed.

It appears that way. Which is great for us.

Well Iowa state was not in the playoffs before today’s game. They had to win to get in. So that’s not relevant to the discussion.

i think they keep SMU in since it was a 3 point loss.

it is certainly the best draw if you rank the seeds 1-12.

No. Are you 12? Why do they matter more than any other team?
They beat us twice. A national champion with two losses to the same team in a season doesn't sound like a national champion.

Counterpoint: But Alabama is Alabama

Heather Denich just posted us at 6 behind Penn St.  No reasoning for why we’d drop below Penn St but why they’d be above ND and OSU.

I want and think it's likely we get Smu/ASU/Oregon. Much better than Clemson/Boise/Georgia

Anyone else feel like our only way to legitimacy is through Georgia? I really want to beat them when it counts the most

No. A national championship is all that matters. Nobody gives a fuck about what lead up to the championship.

That’s the worst one yet. Behind ND/Penn St and Indiana…lolz.

Fuck him. He has not reasoning for that other than he picked Texas to win so it ruined his pick.

According to FEI SMU is #13, Clemson #15, Arizona State #21, #25 Boise State.

We may not have to play a top 10 caliber team until the semi-finals if that's the draw.

He's a Big 10 shill. Ohio State and Notre Dame should in no way be rewarded for not playing at all. Ohio State had its chance and lost to Michigan...the team we fucking beat in Ann Arbor.

A conference championship would have been nice, and a bye obviously has its perks, but I think every team in the nation would take a Clemson/SMU and Boise/ASU path to the final four over a single game against a team like ND/Georgia/Penn St.

my guess is there will soon be a "talking point" about us losing to Georgia's backup QB.

Lol, imagine giving a fuck about something like that after winning a title. I ask again, are you 12?

100%.

The reason SMU should be worried is the committee has to know that EVERYBODY has cracked the code that this dumbass set up makes the 5 spot such a sweet place to be jn and so their solution is going to be something like “well before you get to beat up on Boise or ASU you’re at least gonna have to get through THE helmet of the last 15 years.”

Here's The Athletic's projection model:

image.thumb.png.67e401fae32a48d00df0f1f68cf9703d.png

They give SMU a 79% chance of being in the field, Bama 21%. Everyone else is locked in.

That is 100% the way it should be.

Looks pretty close to mine, I think they will select Texas vs SMU for regional competition, same way i put Notre Dame vs Indiana

Would be happy with 5 or 6 in this projection.

This is correct. All the other people putting OSU at #5 and putting ND or PSU ahead of Texas can fuck off.

They will swap Clemson to #11 and put SMU at #12 then.

Why would Clemson be 12 and SMU 11 when they just beat them for the conference title?
