Good show. Makes me want to drive out to Webb and San Augustine county and buy some men a cold beer.

Makes me want to drive out there and bang some men’s daughters.

Or their mothers if they look like Ali.

Maybe not precisely, but I don't think there's ever been money like oil money.  And probably never will be again.

I had my quarterly “family office” board meeting this week. That consists of my two surviving uncles, my first cousin, and I eating a bowl of gumbo at the local joint, discussing upcoming lease renewals, and royalties, and paying with a company check.

All those thousands of far-flung acres of mineral rights my granddad picked up dirt cheap in the 1950s - if he were still alive it would be a tidy fortune. Split 8 ways in 2024 it keeps his descendents in decent vehicles and occasional vacations. If only I could time travel and buy them all.

Granted he harvested his share of tax shelter losses over the years, and probably drilled some dry holes.

This. The dust alone makes it unbearable for more than a week.

Try growing up there. I think I’m the only person whose allergies actually got better moving to Austin for college. Hill Country Cedar ain’t got nothing on the dusty shitstorm in Midland.

Show is great so far. Over the top for sure. But the visuals are spot on. I’m a geologist in O&G (surprisingly not in the Permian) so I got a kick out of his son dropping out before graduating with a geology degree to become a roughneck instead. Ouch.

Also, the line about the fancy Mercedes rental car…”but I wouldn’t drive it in Odessa” was spot on and brought the lulz

So many good Billy Bob lines-

”Coach Saban retired”

“Fuck Alabama”

Lots of good local/West Texas cameos including Ratliff Stadium/Permian football, Midland skyline, etc.

Excited to see where it goes. Ali Larter is still a smoke show.  The daughter in the sundress and bikini was just ridiculously hot.

Intro music sounds like Explosions in the Sky a la Friday Night Lights show/movie which was a cool nod I thought.

Jon Hamm was great casting for a rich oil exec with the milf wife and hot track daughter at TCU. Perfect.

BBT is entertaining as hell. The get-up he's wearing in those in interviews is something though. He thinks he's Tommy Lee I guess.

The show has already jumped the shark but I'll probably stick it out. The eye candy is worth it although Demi in the pool didn't deliver. The supposed high school daughter is 27 btw , she's also in 1923 but not the Brit

Everything in the Taylor Sheridan universe is the extreme version of real life.  Even mundane shit like getting coffee or ordering a beer. It's ridiculous.

Also, I don't think he knows how men really act. Yes, there's ball breaking that men do regularly with each other.. his idea is psychotic asshole stuff. He doesn't seem to know the difference.  He must be an insufferable prick in real life.

Billy Bob would've had his ass kicked 10 different times if he walked around talking to people the way he does.

I'm still entertained tho.

That's the important part...

All they're missing is some oil guy buying his 3rd wife tits or sending her to college after their 2nd wife left them after graduating from college with brand new tits.

Well from his descriptions of his activities He is a Landman, Company Man, Production Manager, Field Manager and a few other things. They must be a really small outfit as he does just about everything but legal and safety.

He does it all. Even knows how to turn valves during a blowout (least believable part of the show so far- Wild Well Control/Boots and Coots would be out there in 5 minutes, not the fucking Midland FD lol).

He’s also a Michelob Man.

Didn't see him strap on a bit, either, so I guess he's not a tool pusher.

Yet.

What’s their analog in Midland? I get unintentional Clayton Williams vibes.

One of the more amusing things is M-Tex Oil HQ seems to be in Continental Plaza/777 Main in FW, where I spent several years at the beginning of my career.  Building's getting a bit long in the tooth, but I guess the Bass buildings at 201 Main hit a little close to home.

Built in the early 80s. I guess that's getting up there in age. Noticed the Fort Worth club.

Actually appears to be the Petroleum Club.  The FW Club is in its own building, quite ancient.  The FW Club is kind of a bizarre deal, really old school.

I see that "Continental Plaza" is very dated these days, but it was named for an oil company tenant.  I missed the UPRC era.

That's right. Got my clubs confused. Been some time since I've been to both.
