That was a really good episode.  I can't believe they pulled that off without anyone catching on.  You would think Andy would give it away with insisting they split the votes and that he had to be a part of the 3 in the split.

The producers/editors also did a good job of telling it as a heist movie kind of thing.

Awesome.  Only one other episode (minus finales) was close.  Somewhere in the late single digits or teens, there was an overt alliance that was outwardly cocky about how they were going to vote.  The "minority" group was made up of really nice people.  I think they started flaunting their advantage during a reward challenge, which turned off one of their members and he flipped.  It may have been one of those challenges where each person has a plate, and the majority group was laughing about how they were breaking plates in the order at which they were going to vote people off.  Anyway, great episode tonight.

The insistence to split votes and Andy's past flakiness should've been a dead giveaway.  I would've taken my chances on putting all the votes on just one person.

Agree.  And the introduction of the "idol" was one of the worst acting jobs I've seen on the show.  Only someone entirely consumed with pettiness would have fallen for that.

I want to see a note if I'm Teeny.  Even with the note, I'll still take my chances.  Splitting votes is too risky at this point IMHO.  Too many people fall for the fake idol shit.

Funny you bring that episode up. It’s from Survivor: Marquesas, it’s my absolute favorite episode of all time, and I also thought tonight reminded me of that one. It’s the episode that turned me from a casual fan into a super fan when I watched it live, twenty-something years ago.

Long video that’s absolutely worth the watch, but the part you’re talking about starts picking up steam around 7 minutes in. Concludes with maybe the most iconic voting confessional (and the most unintentionally funny final words) of the entire series.

Yep that was a good one. Take a bow Andy for getting that move across the line. Genevieve laid it out well that there were far more reasons for it to fail than to succeed. But it did succeed.

Rachel is probably still the favorite and was on the right track nixing the vote split.

Teeny clearly can’t read people at all. She’s been duped repeatedly.

Totally was right on the vote split.  If anything, they should've agreed to split votes to put 3 solid votes on who they were targeting and 2 votes (including Andy's) on the other person.  There's no way to trust him after he went on the reward with Sam and Genevieve.

Teeny was an emotional mess.  She doesn’t really get that it’s a game.

Watching the smugness get wiped off the faces of those three - Teeny, Caroline, and Sue was awesome.  Neither Kyle nor Sam did anything personal to them.  That was straight up pettiness.

Next episode is going to be interesting.  Rachel holds 99% of the power.

I have to wonder what is the play for Sam and Genevieve from here? With Rachel’s Block a Vote, the new alliance is still effectively a minority even though it’s 3-3. I think they have to convince Sue that Rachel is running away with the show and sitting next to Rachel at the end is just a way to be the best loser. And that if Sue wants to win, she has to make a big move now.

Good luck with all that.  Sue is going to shift her jihad from Kyle to the 3 that voted out her beloved Caroline and not hear a word to the contrary.

Rachel is in really good shape now.  Juries love underdogs so it shouldn't be hard to make the case that the three from last night all have to go.

That was a really good episode, even though I was hoping the plan would fail.  They missed an opportunity by not calling it the Italian Job.

Being on Team Rachel, I was relieved when she won immunity.  Andy finally demonstrated without a doubt that he is playing a really good game, and not just doing so in his head.  Most importantly, the jury picked up on it.  He joins Rachel and Genevieve in the group who can win.

I'm not sure that Rachel or Genevieve would beat Andy if Final Tribal were happening at this point in the season, but it isn't, so I think the presumed showdown we saw in the preview happens after they vote him out (he's probably next to go).

I agree on Sue and Teeny playing with too much emotion, but I would not lump Caroline in with them.  She was leveraging Sue's emotion to gain her trust to use her vote and advantages.  Unfortunately, she did not pick up on the ruse, and did not get to make use of Sue's idol.

This actually works out well for Rachel, as I think she has Caroline's vote, and didn't have to get her hands dirty.

Genevieve and Sam almost assuredly threw the comp. If either had won immunity, it would have eliminated the need to split the vote. Good on Rachel to win but the competition was lacking.

if Rachel had lost, I would have bet that she would have played the block a vote if not just flat out used her hidden idol.

I was wondering about that as it happened.  I figured they wouldn't have wasted much time on the edit before if it wasn't going down at tribal.  Sam's kind of a shitty athlete for his build and career.  He had almost a 2 foot advantage in getting the ball to the boards.

I get the logic, but like they mentioned in the episode, there were too many things that could go wrong with their plan. If I’m Sam there is no way I throw the challenge and give away the guarantee to live another day.

It was a good episode and I was glad the plan worked.

Teeny gets added to the group that was only Sue of people I absolutely do NOT want to win. Teeny was an absolute bitch about Sam and the reward challenge. He did nothing wrong. That was a no-win position to be in.

That's a good thought, but I have to agree with @UncleSonny on this one.  There's no way anyone is throwing an opportunity to win immunity at this stage.  They are definitely thinking about end game, but that's not going to outweigh surviving the next vote.

The reward challenge is another matter.  I know Rachel was relieved to not win it.  Did she throw it?

I want to believe that Rachel would have used one of her advantages to secure her safety, but I was happy to not test that.  We know Caroline and Sue felt safe.  Rachel may have as well.  Andy, Sam, and Genevieve did a great job.

Amazing how the underdog allies didn’t appear to doubt Andy’s commitment for a second when he came back from sanctuary. Or at least we didn’t see it.

I completely agree.  They are certainly aware of his game now, and I can't wait to see what he does from here.  He has to be seen as the biggest threat, and completely untrustworthy.  That is going to make it a lot tougher to convince anyone to work with him, which is why think he is next to go (assuming no immunity win).  We'll see.  This is the best season in a long time.

I think this is one of those weird times where being socially awkward paid off.  They weren't tipped off to any potential weird behavior, because he is always a bit strange.

Lol.  My wife and I got in a minor argument watching the 4 sulk after the reward challenge.  At one point the four of them carried a huge log to the fire then yelled, "Girl power".  I said, "Except for that Same could have carried that log by himself, but whatever".  That got things going with the wife.

One possible strategy for Sam and Genevieve is to conspire with the remaining underdogs to all dump Andy next. It’s doubtful any of them can trust him.

Yep.  It's the logical move if Rachel, Sue, and Teeny stick together, especially since they are aware of Rachel's steal a vote advantage.  No one knows Rachel has an idol, and now that Caroline is out, I think hers is unknown as well.  Sue shouldn't need hers to save herself, but it may still be a factor if someone else can gain her trust.

I don't know if you guys listen to Tyson's podcast but I agree with him about there being no benefit of winning the reward challenge for the letters from home.  He said if he played again, that would be a challenge he would purposely throw.

I don't read any fan sites or listen to any blogs, but I'm not sure I agree with him.  It really depends on your situation.  What if Caroline had won the reward, and taken Andy with her?  If that had happened, she is likely still in the game, with either Genevieve or Rachel likely being out.  I do not think winning that reward hurt Sam's chances to win at all.  In fact, it probably gave him a much better chance to win.

Oh he also said that if he did win that reward, he would not pick anybody and just go by himself. He's going to be a villain with people he wouldn't take anyways. He'd rather eat to get ready for the next immunity challenge and weaken everyone else lol

Since Probst is open to negotiations, I would win the reward for sanctuary/letter from home, and then offer Jeff a deal where I drop out but replace myself with someone else. Sure it pandering but it doesn’t feel like anything negative will come out of it.

Hell, I’d immediately ask if everyone can get their letters if I give mine (and the reward) up. Pander the fuck out of this no win opportunity and make him say no.

No reward at all, and everyone but you gets the letters from home.  I think he would take that and it would get you goodwill.  Of course then someone else would worry that you were now too well liked and would immediately begin plotting to take you out.

Is the letters from home really that big of a deal ? I would try to get more rice for the group then my letter, I mean you only have a week left you cant take another week from not hearing from your brother or wife? Really ?

I think it is easy for us to say that we can just wait another week as we are just spectating from our couch.  But being on an island with strangers where you are tired, starving and probably wanting some positive re-enforcement may have you think differently maybe?

why did rachel play her steal a vote?  did she have to before it got down to 5?  it was wasted.  whether the vote was 4-2 rachel or 3-2 rachel makes no difference because no votes counted for rachel.  and didnt teeny tell them about her idol?  weird that nobody knew.   the winner of the last immunity challenge is the going to be in the catbirds seat.  could be any of the three (sue and teeny might as well pack their bags).  in fact i would say rachel has the least chance of winning immunity between her, sam, and genevieve.  has been a great season though.

I was debating the value of Sue playing her idol for herself. Obviously it is a guarantee to avoid any surprise elimination, but in terms of building a resume, does it actually change anything for her big picture? I’ve thought about what I’d do if in similar position. Does revealing an unplayed, surprise idol work better during jury questioning? You could argue it as a feather in the cap moment that you had safety all along and didn’t use it, could be interesting but maybe the jury just acknowledges you weren’t a threat, big deal. The other option is use it to manipulate last night’s vote and covertly save Sam or Genevieve as a big wow moment, but then I wonder if either Genevieve or Sam would have used that gesture against her and vote her out. Ultimately, I think it’s a nonevent for her but I’ve wondered what the best gameplay would have been for someone in that position.
