Survivor 47

I did not have "Sue and Teeny sniff out the truth to eliminate Genevieve, leaving Rachel on the wrong side of the vote" on my bingo card.  It won't be enough to sway the jury unless Rachel doesn't make the final three, but at least they both finally did something to significantly impact the game.  I was beginning to think that we might actually end up with Genevieve versus Rachel at final tribal, which would have been an epic showdown, but no such luck.

I was debating the value of Sue playing her idol for herself. Obviously it is a guarantee to avoid any surprise elimination, but in terms of building a resume, does it actually change anything for her big picture? I’ve thought about what I’d do if in similar position. Does revealing an unplayed, surprise idol work better during jury questioning? You could argue it as a feather in the cap moment that you had safety all along and didn’t use it, could be interesting but maybe the jury just acknowledges you weren’t a threat, big deal. The other option is use it to manipulate last night’s vote and covertly save Sam or Genevieve as a big wow moment, but then I wonder if either Genevieve or Sam would have used that gesture against her and vote her out. Ultimately, I think it’s a nonevent for her but I’ve wondered what the best gameplay would have been for someone in that position.

That's a really good question.  For me, an idol only counts on one's résumé if it is played in an impactful way (playing it or threatening to play it to produce a desired vote).  Kudos to Sue for finding it and keeping it a secret to all but Caroline, but she missed multiple opportunities to put it to good use and to establish herself as a real player.

I'm hoping for an all girls final tribal, just to hear Teeny's and Sue's arguments for winning.  It's unlikely, as Sam can probably win a fire challenge, but at least we'll get to hear one of them try to make a case.

That is how you get rid of a snake.  Cut the head and the rest is doomed.

At the next challenge, Rachel should just ask the others if they want her to participate or not.  Plant a little more doubt in their minds.  Evidently, she's got fire making down pat.

The ball and stand challenge was pretty intense.

What?  Rachel/Sam/Sue voted for Genevieve.  Teeny (for some reason) voted for Sam, alongside Gen.

And there was definitely some flashier way for Sue to use the idol but 1) to know that you need to be creative with an idol would require Sue to have an accurate view of how her game is perceived, which I'm not sure she does and 2) I'm not sure it would have even mattered in her case.

Rachel would be one of the best recent winners.  Sam would be fine.  The show should be cancelled if it's either of the other two.

You are right.  For some reason I thought I saw Teeny holding a Genevieve vote during the credits.  Never mind.  Teeny continues to be completely lost.  That makes me feel better about Rachel.  I thought telling Sue about her idol might have been a mistake, but it appears that it was the right move.

Sue is getting taken to final tribal council because everyone thinks they can beat her, but she doesn't realize that.  She would be a nightmare on the jury because she will hate everyone if she gets voted out.

Damn....that wind sucked for Teeny....

Yeah that was pretty unlucky for her, but made for an exciting fire challenge.

Excellent season of Survivor, and deserving winner.

Wish they had shown more people’s “shock” when Sue revealed her true age.

Very solid winner, although Sam did great and made more of a fight of it at final tribal than I expected.

I feel like he talked more about why the jury shouldn't vote for Rachel vs talking about why they should vote for him.  I also thought his points were not exactly truthful when you really break it down.

I agree with everything that has been said.  Teeny should have just kept adding stuff until the whole structure caught fire.

I thought Sam crushed final tribal, and was worried that he was going to actually sway a few people.  I don't think there was any way for him to lose Kyle's vote, but I was pleasantly surprised that he didn't get Sierra's.  Rachel did a good job of deflecting some of the dismissive comments about all of her advantages, but I wish she had emphasized that she had to win immunity or she would be on the jury.  If Sam's game had been as good as hers, then he too would have needed to win immunity to stay in the game.  Thankfully, the vote showed just how good this cast was, as they all recognized the game that Rachel played.

This will go down as one of my favorite seasons of all time.

On a side note, I often have the constant Paramount Survivor stream playing in the background, and seeing how the challenges and casting have evolved over the years is really interesting.   They have done a great job of tweaking the game to give the unathletic people a chance to survive the early "keep the tribe strong" stage that we used to see every season.  And while there are aspects of the old school "bros and barbies" casts that I miss, seeing the high levels of strategic gameplay that we have now is so much more enjoyable.

I came away pleased with this season because it had several intelligent/strategic players.  Realize the show is an experiment that constantly evolves with different type of players but hope the producers will continue cast this way.

Andy looked like a complete miss and then turned it around. That was nice.

Rachel should have challenged Sam right there on the spot to make fire.  Team Rachel for the win, hell yeah!

She would have killed him but she didn’t even need to risk it. Rachel definitely deserved to win. Was a good season and she was a strong player. Felt a little bad for teeny, that wind seemed like bad luck but it didn’t matter unless there is a big difference between 3rd and 4th place. Does anyone know how it payouts besides the winner getting a million?

I didn’t watch the season live but recently binged it. I thought it was a good season with a deserving winner. Rachel had the right combination of challenge ability and critical thinking. What made the season good was that they toned down the number of goofy twists, advantages and idols, making the gameplay more straightforward and less confusing.

I assume the rest that make the jury get something as well? I’ve always wondered what life is like on the jury. I assume it’s a fairly nice compound set up and it’s like a nice vacation

They used to have these short ponderosa episodes on the CBS website for each jury member once they got voted off. They would get checked out by medical and you could see how much weight everyone lost. Basically everyone got a nice vacation at a resort. All you can eat food and drinks. Must be nice....

I’ve looked at the google earth images of where they film all of this. There’s a good sized village very very close to where all of this goes down.

When everyone acted shocked when Sue said she was really 59 was hilarious.

I was lying to you all and I'm really 59.  And I want my legacy to be that my grandson can watch and see that I played the game without lying to anyone.

Also, she said she wanted to represent and do her generation proud by ... Pretending not to be her actual age.
