2024 Houston Texans Season Thread

This game was lost on that 1st bullshit PF and Fairbairn's inability to kick in cold weather. He's always been horrible outdoors and in inclement weather. Should have known he was going to choke hard today by the amount of clothes he was wearing, what a fucking pussy.

OL coach needs to be fired, Slowick should be encouraged to find a soft landing spot, the entire OL needs to have open auditions, and Fairbairn needs to get cut.

I will never understand Dallas fans obsession with Houston sports.

But I guess if your team was done in September, you're probably very bored and Houston has a lot of attention and hype right now. Sorry for your shortcomings bro.

What makes you think I am a Dallas fan?

The Texans are forever cursed for not drafting VY.

Prove me wrong.

How was that big honky getting so wide open?  59 yards holy shit that was kind of the back-breaker.  Texans are a good but not there yet team.

KC is fast.  Big Charles had a respectable game.

Shaq Mason at RG rather than keeping Juice Scruggs. Mason sucked all season long and he sucked big today.

Well he did recover the fumble that he caused, so there's that.

He's a fucking bum.

Stroud looked like David Carr out there this year.  Think he was sacked 2nd most in the league.

11 times in the 2 playoff games.

I agreed at the time with Nick and Demeco defending Aziz the way they did earlier.

Stoerner had a great point last night that the Texans should have held back at that time. They could now be complete dicks in calling out this bullshit now as it would have a bit more credibility if they hadn’t been so vigorous in speaking out about the Aziz thing.

I look forward to another kicker. Fairbairn is great for fantasy football with all his 50+ yd FG attempts but he's also a choker in big games and I knew he would miss those FGs just like he did last year against Baltimore at the end of the first half that would have given the Texans a lead going into the locker rooms.

Someone else pointed it out up thread but that missed PAT was massively deflating. The defense is balling out, the offense puts together a killer long drive that ends in a Mixon TD and Kaimi flushes all those good vibes away with an idiot kick.

Get rid of him.

I think Texans should double down.

"Texans vs. EVERYBODY" the way Demeco said it... and stay on it. Drape that shit across the stadium from now (yes, HLSR, you get some of that action, too) until next January.

Force the league to come to Houston and beg you to stop calling out how fixed their bullshit is.

Of course the NFL wants the Chiefs to have a shot at 3. They better hope the Bills win today.

Watching the game yesterday, I thought out loud, "Travis Kelce has to be fast as fuck."

Nauseating and infuriating to listen to this bootlicker:

I still don't recall seeing Anderson hit Pat in the helmet. I saw Pat's head snap back, just like the official who was BEHIND THE FUCKING PLAY and couldn't have seen a head to head.

In both cases, the official that threw the flag was BEHIND THE PLAY and could only guess.

F that. Everyone knows what they saw and everyone knows those vague ass rules apply to Pat, Tom, and very few others.

CJ Stroud got his ass kicked all year. (I wanna say Jared Goff did, too.) How many personal fouls?

I’ve liked him but am now concerned as well. Seems like after the game he got the game ball he started sucking. I don’t have any faith he could handle these conditions in Philadelphia

It’s very very rare they will admit a call is wrong. Seems most fans are getting frustrated though league wide. Will be interesting if they adjust or not

How long before players take care of it?

"If a touch foul is 15 yards, then I'ma get my pound of flesh/ greatly increase my chances of winning."
The penalty is even less severe in the redzone.

I'm thinking TE or DL makes sense in the first round, and an interior OL at some point in the first two days. There are some really athletic high upside DL that could be in Houston's range that could help take the defense to another level

Also need to sign a veteran interior OL to start for next year, and need to at the very least replace the OL coach. I'd also replace Slowik, although I doubt that happens

The NFL can read the room on fans’ ever changing attitudes towards protecting QB$/reducing CTE vs letting them play the game. I’m more pissed about the fake slides or fake going out of bounds to either draw penalties or cause the defender to stop and then the ball carrier (e.g. Mahomes) takes off for additional yardage. I think refs would be within the rules to throw an unsportsmanlike conduct flag for simulating giving themselves up when players pull that shit.

I think WR is the biggest need if they don’t resign Diggs (or sign Tee Higgins (barf at the cap hit)). I don’t count on Tank coming back next season and probably never with the speed and elusiveness that made him a weapon.

The team is getting talented enough they can almost start taking best available talent with whoever falls to them and look like geniuses when the player is a difference maker. DT, OL, CB, RB could benefit from plugging in a stud that drops into the second half of the first round. First round TEs are usually disappointments, and are they planning to cut Schultz ($14m in 2025, but would be a $16m dead cap hit if they cut him)? He and Stover seem fine. CJ would benefit from better blocking or another playmaking weapon. Egbuka or Golden to pair across from Nico? What if Ashton Jeanty slips?

I looked up the 2025 cap numbers and the reworked Diggs contract. I thought it was questionable at the time trading a 2nd round pick for Diggs (a potential malcontent), then even stupider that they cut years off Diggs's contract that Buffalo was pro-rating (since they had to eat the signing bonus portion of the contract). Then Caserio did the opposite with Mixon (extended him when he was in a prove-it contract year as an aging RB).

If they hadn't changed the Diggs contract, it would have been:
2024 - $18.5M;    2025 - $18.0M (only $3.5M was guaranteed, if Houston wanted to cut him this offseason)

They restructured it so Diggs was paid $22.5M in 2024, $20.8M of which was a signing bonus on fictitious 5 year voidable contract. That saved Houston around $11M in 2024 (to help sign Hunter, Al-Shaair, and Autry, perhaps) but puts $16.6M in dead money from Diggs on the 2025 cap. The capology websites project he has a free agent value around $13.4M/yr on a 1-3 yr deal. If he actually accepted a 1 year, $13M deal, I guess the Texans would get net savings by last year's restructuring. I'm not holding my breath that Diggs would accept a deal at that price, plus Houston only has $10.7M in cap space. Cutting Kenyon Green saves zero, and cutting Fairbairn costs you money against the cap. Cutting Tytus Howard and/or Shaq Mason as post-June 1 could free up some money, but of course you have to sign players better than them as replacements.
