That feels a lot like a Dameon Pierce hype to get no production.  If they wanted a RB they should have gotten Skattebo, he’d be a legit #2 behind Mixon to bully a defense.

But you want contrasting/complimentary backs, not two guys who do the same thing.

Also word on Skatt is the skills won't translate when facing pro defenders. I think he'll do fine, but there are concerns.

Not a fan of picking guys from USC, that program is trash under Riley. They must not like Williams at all.

That makes no sense. He’s awful.

Mertz’s NFL Draft Outlook

With just days to go until the 2025 NFL Draft, Mertz is graded as a mid-to-late Day 3 prospect. He’s considered a solid developmental backup with distant starting upside.

He has prototypical size, good toughness and arm strength, along with strong off-platform ability and smooth ball skills. However, his athleticism is limited, and his inconsistency in structure, along with issues with field vision and anticipation, often leads him to hold the ball too long.

If not supported by a quick-game system, Mertz can be prone to volatile stretches. Still, he’s a worthwhile addition to a quarterback room and could grow into a dependable backup or spot starter at the NFL level.

Zierlein’s write up

Quote

A highly experienced quarterback with NFL size, Mertz is recovering from an ACL tear suffered in October 2024. Despite a lack of eye-popping production, he became a much more comfortable and competent quarterback during his time at Florida. He operated with better poise under pressure and improved his decision-making. He gets through his progressions with average quickness but occasionally struggles to cut it loose on time, leading to pass breakups or incompletions near the boundary. He’s pretty good about getting rid of the football to avoid sacks but he also lacks the aggressive mentality needed to attack pro defenses. Mertz is a game manager with adequate NFL tools for consideration as a backup, but the ceiling is low.

After Noel, this draft has been trash as far as matching picks with real team needs. The Mertz pick is fuking Caserio thinking he's smarter than everyone else, and trading up to do it. Caserio is not smarter than everyone else, because if he was, he'd never had put together that fucking abymsal OL he did last year.

a fuckign safety ???

the defense needed ZERO picks this year

fuck

Yes, the Texans should start the season hoping 50 year old Jimmy Ward is able to get back from Lourdes in time to start another 5-6 game season before Nick has to go find a safety off the street or you could go get a guy who can play safety, contribute on specialty teams and can replace Ward .

Uh. The Texans signed a very good safety in free agency. Ward is on the bench.
