You can describe Nick Wright in many ways, but "not wrong" is not one of them.

Your personal opinion of Nick Wright aside, do you really think he's wrong here?

I hope I'm wrong as well but we do not stand a chance Saturday. At all. I mean, sure, we have a mathematical, soyouresayingtheresachance.gif chance of pulling off the upset in the cold in KC on Saiurday, but we all need to be real. Mahomes and Andy Reid are in full control of this game.

(do you hear me football gods?)

Unlike coaches like Sark, Andy Reid adapts to the defensive changes as the game goes on. If you really want to mess them up, you have to mix up your strategies every quarter if not every possession. Spy on Mahomes vs. spy on who is the hot target; man vs. zone; blitz vs. fake blitz. We have athletes on defense. Can our offense score more than 14 in frigid KC with Nico as the only viable receiving threat and run game that has gone to shit?

So youre saying his hips don’t lie?

That’s exactly what I am saying. I tell the spy do not watch his eyes, head, shoulders or anything other than his hips. I absolve them of any responsibility other than that. They have to keep him in the pocket. The DE have to maintain discipline and cannot rush past him. That’s when he kills you.

In Houston’s NFL history, we have only made it to the conference finals twice, during the Luv Ya Blue era, and I was too young to remember and experience. Growing up as a die hard Oilers fan during the Run N Shoot era, I had never seen them win a division title, all I wanted as a teenager was to see an AFC Central championship banner hanging in the Astrodome. The first time the Texans won a division title in 2011 that meant a lot to me — now it’s a regular occurrence but it’s not enough.

I have always wanted to see a Houston team in the Super Bowl before I die. I thought that it’d happen one day - I am now in my 50s and am not so sure anymore. The first step in doing so is to win on Saturday and get to a conference championship game for the first time and, for me, the first time I will have ever experienced getting past this round. Let’s fucking kick the door in damn it.

In my 50s as well and I remember that experience. It sucked. But nothing sucked like Buffalo in '93. It's crazy to think Houston has not experience a pro football team in the AFCG since Earl Campbell and has only hosted ONE divisional game since that time. ONE DIVISIONAL PLAYOFF GAME!

Btw, that divisional playoff game was against none other than the Kansas City Chiefs and it was exactly 31 years ago today.

Fuckin Keith Cash, man.

You mean Buddy Ryan.  Joe beat the blitz for that first TD and Buddy peed down his leg the rest of the game.

People talk about the Buffalo game more, but that was the toughest loss of the Moon era. We barely made the playoffs in ‘92; in ‘93 we had won 11(?) games in a row heading into the playoffs including an epic Christmas Day win at San Francisco. That loss was fucking Crabtree level…

I was a junior in HS in 1993 and was a sportswriter for the school paper. I did this big NFL season preview piece before the season started. Predicted the Oilers going 12-4 and beating the Chiefs in the AFC championship game. Got a lot of grief from my friends when Houston started 1-4. Then as said above, we won 11 straight to hit 12-4.  I was so confident in that team. Damn, damn, damn. Still too soon.

As someone that loved both the Oilers and the Cowboys growing up, I was always so excited about the possibilities both of those years.  Yes, the 92 team may have barely made the playoffs, but they crushed Buffalo the last game of the year and then had a 35-3 lead in the 3rd quarter.  That team had found another gear and were going to be a really tough out.  I was really looking forward to an all Texas Super Bowl.

The 93 team was far better.  Once Ryan got his defense installed, the Oilers were playing like the best defense in the NFL.  That was the team that could have given Dallas a run for its money.  The team that lost to Buffalo was a pretender

That loss to KC was the death knell for the Oilers.  I remember after the game, people were burning their Oilers gear in small bonfires in the parking lot.  The fanbase started losing interest at that point because Bud Adams was crying for a new stadium, but wouldn't spend the money to put a championship level team on the field.  The fans pretty much threw up the double birds and Adams took the money and ran.  When the Oilers left, it felt like a member of my immediate family had died.  I've tried to love the Texans, but it's just never been the same.  I don't think it ever will.

Yeah absolutely.

The Buffalo game was terrible because of the epic choke involved after the team played the most perfect first half of football I think I've ever seen a team play. The KC loss at home was such a huge blow because that Oilers team was scorching hot heading into the playoffs and one win at home would open the door for a redemption trip to Buffalo. Then, with the first half lead and the defense doing its job to stop Montana, it felt like the stars were aligned but of course by the middle of the third quarter Montana said nope not today you suckers.

That one hurt so bad.
