2024 Heisman Trophy Race

There is no Heisman race ...while Jeanty is obviously the best running back and would win the Heisman 99 out of 100 years, this is that 1 other year.

Travis Hunter is 100% the best player in college football this year, and it's not particularly close.

The Heisman is announced tomorrow (Dec 14th).   That's a mistake.    With the playoff schedule, that's way to early.

Boise's Playoff game is not until Dec 31th.

Jeanty is 131 yards away from the ALL TIME Single Season record.   All-Fucking-Time.  Short of injury, he's getting that record.  He went for 192 against #1 Oregon; he'll get 131 yards against  either SMU or Pedo.

Jeanty NOT winning would be as big of a joke as VY not winning.

All Time Single Season Rushing Leaders.

Rank Player Yards (non bowl yds) Year School
1 Barry Sanders 2628 1988 Oklahoma State
2 Melvin Gordon 2587  2014 Wisconsin
3 Kevin Smith 2567  2007 UCF
4 Ashton Jeanty 2497 2024 Boise State
5 Marcus Allen 2342 1981 Southern California

Hunter is great, and playing both sides is amazing, but Jeanty is about to pass Barry Sanders.

Barry Sanders only played 11 games in '88.  Jeanty has already played 13 this year.

Not trying to take anything away from Jeanty, but it's a silly companion.

As of today, both Barry and Ashton have exactly 344 carries in their magical season.

Yes, and that kinda goes against your argument.  He is not having a better season than Barry Sanders did.  Same carries, but fewer yards.

Are you also of the mind the Melvin Gordon should have won the Heisman? He had better stats than Jeanty.

So you’re saying hes having the SECOND best season by a RB, ever?

thats it, cross him off the heisman list

It's (fully healthy) Shohei Ohtani versus Aaron Judge. Sure, Judge is technically a better hitter, but a guy being a top 10 player on both sides of the ball is completely unprecedented.

Exactly.  The Heisman is supposed to the best "player" in college football.  That is Travis Hunter ...and not just this year.  He's a once in a generation football player.

Read above ...I said he'd win the Heisman 99 out of 100 times.  He just happened to have this season the same year Travis Hunter showed everyone what people mean by the term positionless football.

Dude was a beast.

I was so lucky to watch him play in person. That team was unreal. The defensive line, all five of them, started as rookies in the NFL. On one side you had Green and opposite him you had Rickey Jackson. My cousin was a freshman on the 1979 team and his first week in camp his job was to “attempt to block” Green, or Jackson. Said it was not fun, nor successful.

I go back to the stats that Chase Young and Hutchinson put up the season they were talked about for the Heisman and they did absolutely nothing compared to Green. In 1980 Green has 123 tackles, 17 sacks, 11 TFL, 7 forced fumbles, 4 recovered 6 passes defended. He won the Maxwell, Walter Camp and Lombardi awards and was the UPI and Sporting News P.O.Y.

I’ll continue my rant just a bit more. Aaron Donald should have won the Heisman and so should have Larry Fitzgerald. And Vince Young, too.

Guessing you know this but the Heisman is announced when it is so it’s before the bowl games to give all players, not just players from bowl teams, a chance to be considered equally. However, this was made a strategy before the insane explosion of bowl games, so nearly all relevant players are playing in bowl games.
