I don’t think OU is gonna take a huge step back but like, that was a hell of a senior class you graduated. Gonna be hard to replace all of that at once. In the circle and at the plate

Maybe the best senior class in the history of the sport. I’ll let others opine on that. I don’t think we’ll take a huge step back either. I could see a 48-12 or 50-10 type season coming up though. Our non-conference schedule should allow Patty to do work getting the team ready for the SEC grind. I still think it comes down to OU/UT at the top of the conference. It’s going to be a fun ride getting there though.

I would not discount Florida - Texas and Florida bring back the most experienced pitching staff of the 3 contenders.

Agreed. Not discounting them at all. Just have a hunch they’ll finish third. Wouldn’t be a surprise to see any of those three win the SEC tournament. Everything for all three of those teams is about getting ready for OKC in May.

It’s going to be an interesting first season in the SEC for both of us. I’m ready for softball to start, not to mention baseball. I don’t get the consternation of OU slotting in at 3 in the preseason rankings. I think that’s fair given what we lost. Let’s just get on the diamond and get the games going this week!

Given OU's dominance over the sport, I don't think anyone was wrong to have slotted them at #1. I don't always think that for returning champs, but geez.

If the top 3 in the final SEC standings aren’t a combination of Texas, OU, and Florida then some team had a surprisingly strong year

The 1 other team who I think can break into the top 3 is aggy.

Kennedy was really good for them and they do not face OU or Texas.

Really unbalanced schedules can create some wonkiness -

OU plays Florida, Texas, Tennessee
Texas plays Florida, OU and Tennessee
Florida plays OU, Texas, aggy
aggy plays Florida and Tennessee

Goode is capable of stepping up in that role. She has shown flashes of talent against weaker pitching staffs, now she just needs to take the next step against some better pitching

Hopefully Singleton made some good strides with Goode and also Bennett from ACU.

Tough news with the season quickly approaching. However, this is one of the deepest rosters in the NCAA and Mike will piece together a plan at SS that will probably involve more than one or two players.

Are you going to Clearwater this year,  or lack of interest due to Texas not there  ?

The Tech/Nebraska game on Sat at 4PM ET (Jordy Bahl vs Canady) should be a good one.

Saw this on the Tech site.  MLB TV will televise 3 games on Sat. (ET)   Seems GameChanger will be the only coverage for other games at this time.

Missouri vs Duke, 1PM

Tech vs Neb, 4PM

Tenn vs Northwestern, 7PM

Season starts in 3 days and there are still no game times for any game on our schedule. I forget, Is this normal?

The calendar schedule has times - you just need to subscribe to it off the website

Friday - Longwood 3:30 and ULL 6

Sat - St John’s 12pm and Lamar 5pm

Sun - Tulsa 11:30am and Sam Houston 2pm

Whoever runs Texaslonghorns.com is either lazy with keeping it updated or they’re being stretched too thin with other responsibilities tacked on. Knowing corporate life it’s probably the latter

Also horrendous travel. Austin to Lafayette for 2 games, then quickly over to Beaumont for 2 more games, and then up to Huntsville for 2 more games

Got an email saying single-game tickets were ready to buy. This is all I get no matter how many tickets I choose.

#10 Tech is in town with Canady the first weekend,  so may be sold out.    May want to call ticket office at 512-471-3333 to confirm.

SeatGeek will likely be your best option.   Right now lowest price I saw is $25 for grandstand.    This is for all games on Day 1 which includes the Tech game which is worth it imo.   Prices will fluctuate as season ticket holders just got their tickets this week.    Like all events,  prices may drop closer to game time or could not.  Tech is excited about their team.   Very early but at present,  high of 70 with 24% chance of rain.

Ha, when did texassports flip to texaslonghorns? Either way, their schedule page software in all sports has always sucked.

Hmmm…..just noticed this as well…..any Texassports search for any sport defaults to texaslonghorns.com……whatever….the current softball schedule, as noted, does not currently have game times.

The games should be on ESPN+, or other ESPN or SECN…..I would hope.

Most likely.

Friday night game vs Tech is 6:30pm (2/14)

Sunday game vs Tech is 12:30pm (2/16)

Sunday game is going to overlap with the LSU WBB game (1pm).

All the games that would have been on LHN last year will be on ESPN+/SECN this season. Only exception would be if we’re playing in a FloSports tournament then the game would be PPV

ESPN hasn't released their schedule of what games they are going to have on the main networks (ESPN/2/U/SECN) but whatever they don't show will be ESPN+/SECN+, except like you said, any tournaments than end up on FloSports or whatever.

Should be no concern about not being able to watch the vast majority of our games.

I would expect our series against Florida/OU will be televised on one of the ESPN channels or SECN.

Bohls' article.  Good info,  worth the read.

https://www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/college/longhorns/article/ut-softball-preview-oklahoma-sec-20148367.php

Excerpts:

Quote

One top player White won’t have is veteran shortstop Viviana Martinez, an excellent hitter (.376) who tore her ACL in one of her knees during a simple rundown play in practice. It was such a routine play that White said Martinez actually “kind of laughed” when it happened, only to receive the bad news soon thereafter. It will be nine months before she’s cleared to start her rehabilitation.

In Martinez’s place, White will look hard at Leighann Goode of San Antonio as “the leading contender,” but also consider Shylein Brister from Clear Brook High, Stewart and Kaydee Bennett although the latter or Brister might plug in at second base. Stewart could wind up at first base or in the outfield with Maloney in right, Victoria Hunter of Houston St. Pius X or Bennett or Stewart in left and Kayden Henry of Dickinson in center.

“There’s a lot of moving parts there,” White said. “We have six games this weekend, so it’s going to be a lot of opportunities for a lot of players, and we’ll see how we piece it together.”
