Texas Softball 2025 - Sick of Being Second Place

good win.

I'm by no means an expert on softball pitchers but when I watch TK I get the feeling she isn't a lockdown type and she is hittable(against good lineups).  She's absolutely one of the best pitchers in the country and maybe my concern is unfounded.

If she gets overworked it could be trouble and I don't trust any of the rest of the staff. Maybe one of them really steps up this year to be a 1B to TK's 1A.

I did think Mike would be able to coach up the others on the staff so we wouldn't worry about pitching very often at all.

I have the same concern. We'll have to let the season play out to see if it's unfounded or not. It seems like Texas has a number of really good pitchers but no lock down pitcher. And it seems like every WCWS champion I can remember had a lock down pitcher.

It's just the opposite of when Cat was pitching. The best pitcher ever and no hitting. With Canady Texas probably wins it all no problem, but I'm not at all upset Mike didn't get her.

CG gets the start after her clutch pitching yesterday against Arizona

Bennett gets the bench after some less than stellar 2B play

Both pitchers load the bases but pitch out of trouble

CG strikes out 3 despite a double, single and walk

Texas gets both runs back thanks to a wild pitch and Stewie’s 5th RBI

10-2

Just need 3 outs now

Good news only one lock down pitcher in the country right now and that's Canday.   UCLA probably has best staff with Texas Lsu, and Florida close behind.

Kavan throws hard, but is not a power pitcher. She is most effective when she is spinning it well and hitting her spots. When she misses, it’s tends to be a flattened out version of her rise ball, which is basically a batting practice fastball at that point.

Arizona run ruled Stanford today. That makes our win against Arizona look more impressive, but the loss to Stanford more baffling.

Baseball/softball are the quirkiest of sports. Hard to take much from one game.

The one troubling thing I think we can take away is that TK has not looked like the lockdown pitcher we thought she could be this year.

Pretty much

I thought the way she settled down after the 1st inning against Arizona was spectacular, but then she blew it in the 7th.  Luckily her offense picked her up in the 8th after CG kept Arizona from walking it off.

It's too early for her to be "overworked" but here is the inning breakdown so far:

TK 36 IP
Salmon 25.1
CG 22.1
Mac 17.0

That has to change.  I am not saying she shouldn't pitch this coming weekend, but our schedule is South Florida, ACU, New Mexico State, South Florida, Alabama A&M.   I give her 1 game out of of those 5 and that's it - there's zero reason Mac, CG and Cam can't handle the rest of that crap schedule. Let TK come out of the pen and work an inning or two, but she should start 1 of those 5 games.

Because I want TK pitching rested on March 5 against Baylor.   And then we have another crap tournament against Saint Francis, Oakland, Merrimack, Dayton and Ohio State.  TK should get the Ohio State start and that's it. Because then it's on to Gainesville.

There's no reason Mac should be the lowest of the 4 in innings pitched - a full game behind the freshman too.   She should be eating innings in the non-conf so you can start TK/CG/TK in SEC play.

Every single god damn series in SEC play is ranked or RV - #3, #20/18, #17/16, #22, #5/7, #6/5, #2, #24/RV.  We need TK at her best for this.

Ideally, everyone should be around 24 IP right now, with TK maybe like 27-28.  Mac has been criminally underused for being a senior starter - she's not a scrub, she was 16-1 with a 1.96 ERA in 107.1 IP - 2nd on the team in IP, #1 in ERA and tied with TK for appearances.

The tilt toward Salmon and away from Morgan this year is quite odd.

I totally get trying to get her work and get her feet wet early against mediocre competition. That is not a reason to overwork TK and underuse Mac. We have enough non conf games for everyone to get work. And if you want Cam to get work, bring her in when we are up 12-0 in the 3rd/4th

She needs to experience starting and coming on in relief. Even if it’s a blowout relief appearance

No punishment. I guess they like that we have actually played people - 4 games against their top 25 already, with 1 loss

I get it White is trying to make TK that shutdown pitcher, but like someone else stated earlier, she’s not that type of pitcher. I think CG and MAC are more of “could be”  pitchers than TK but TK has the most upside. We basically have a pitching staff that’s has a jack of all trades but no dominant at a few.

Posted

TK is our only proven swing and miss pitcher with her stuff.  She has the spin to be an ace, particularly if she can command the dropball she has added.  Unfortunately this year she's been missing her spots and it's been too much swing and not miss.

I think she may be tired and trying to do too much.

Both softball and women’s basketball ranked #1 today. Quite the women’s athletic department right now. Hopefully, soccer gets their shit together soon. They always have good talent, but coaching and injuries seem to stunt the potential.

We do not have the coach. Winning the SEC tournament last fall probably set the program back a couple more years.

Based on what we've been told, or heavily hinted, soccer is the one thing CDC has not been able to touch.  Plonsky's last grasp in Bellmont - she lost Connie Clark, she lost Karen Aston/Gail Goestenkors. She has nothing left but Angela Kelly.

Plonsky and Connie Clark - The two biggest blights upon UT Athletics in recent memory.

And, yes, I'm aware that Charlie Strong happened. I said what I said.

Ok, include Charlie.

By end of year if that drop is a reliable pitch she could be shut down.  Some days that thing is moving really well.

You saved yourself there at the end. There is no way that subject can be discussed without Chuckles being right in the middle of it.

I think she would have been gone after this past fall but the ladies pulled out the conference title. She’s got to be hanging by a string.

AK has been hanging by a string for almost the last 10 years. I can’t do anything but smile and shake my head after she does “just enough” to save her job before each new contract

Texas is #1 in the coaches poll (NFCA) and Softball America

Texas is #2 in D1 Softball and USA Today/ESPN.com (only 4 points behind OU)

Softball America with some shade thrown at whiny OU fans not being #1:

  Quote

The Longhorns dropped their first game of the season to Stanford in Tucson but responded with a true road win over Arizona. Texas also has two wins against Texas Tech; one against Canady and a run-rule in the other.

Choosing between Texas, Oklahoma and Florida wasn’t easy. However, the Longhorns’ wins are better than the other two. And remember Sooner fans, we didn’t drop Oklahoma last season after one loss to Louisiana.
