No one does. Every top rated team is going to ride their ace as far as her arm will take them.

If Texas can get a reliable 3-4 innings per start off Mac, Cam and Cit during the non-TK starts, that’ll work for us.

Softball has always been a team of aces. Back in the day, women like Cat threw every inning. There is very little stress on the arm with the windmill motion. What gives out is the players legs or back. Hopefully we can get TK some short games via the run rule, and get the other pitchers to combine for some starts here and there.

What has more of an rpi effect, one team that we play once winning or losing, or a team that we don’t play but several of our opponents play 3x winning or losing?

OPP winning % is a higher percentage of RPI (50%) than OPP OPP winning % (25%)

UCF 4-0 over Florida

Georgia 8-4 over OKST. OKST committed about a billion errors

KU on top of Mizzou, 3-0

OU up on Wichita State, 18-12. Not a typo lol

35 total runs jfc. I guess show this tape to the Texas offense before the OU series.

Wow. Those two staffs served up more meat than a Brazilian steakhouse.

OU is just trying to raise their batting averages.  Toying.

I’m thinking OU didn’t want to be there.

Gasso said afterwards that they'd been focusing on this weekend's series against Tennessee, and it showed. Most runs allowed by OU in 5 seasons. We all know they don't have a lockdown staff any more, but this was an especially bad showing.

On the other side, WSU pitching was awful. But the hosts also played no semblance of D. It really was Keystone Cops out there. Of course, you might expect that of a .500 team.

Did they even scout or just roll the ball out and think they’d win 12-0 in 5?

Deal was the #1 recruit for Extra Innings Softball and went to OU, so no "Mike White's pitchers don't get better" curse

2024 - 1.97 ERA
2025 - 2.98 ERA

It's not just a Texas problem.  Gotta credit TK for putting in the work between her freshman and sophomore seasons.

When it comes to OU, I don't buy that they didn't prep for WSU.  Their pitching staff just ain't what it was during the 4-peat:

Landry - 1.31 ERA (and missed some time due to an injury)
Smith - 2.76
Deal - 2.98
Lowry - 2.10
Monticelli - 4.02
Team ERA - 2.33

Some of the run totals they've given up this year - 6 to SDSU, 5 to Bowling Green, 9 to SoCar, 9 to SoCar again, 7 to Arkansas, 16 to Wichita State.  Texas has only allowed 5+ runs only four times this year (Lamar, Stanford, South Florida, Auburn) and just 3 if you remove Sophia's meltdown against Lamar (6 runs).

The most runs Texas has allowed so far is 9 (to Stanford).  OU, 16 to Wichita State.  LSU, 11 to Georgia.  Florida, 13 to Texas. aggy, 12 to Florida. Tennessee, 9 to Arkansas

I'm taking TK, Mac, Cit and Cam over the OU top 3 (Landry, Smith, Deal).  2.01 team ERA for Texas, and if you remove SS, 1.89 team ERA.  SS 6 ER in 1.1 IP, rest of staff is 56 ER in 207.2

They've given up 23 HR as a staff - Texas only 13, against a stronger schedule. Texas/OU series is going to be a lot of runs and/or a lot of TK and Sam Landry.

Some other SEC series to watch:

Texas-MSU (duh)
OU-Tenn (go ugly orange!)
SoCar-LSU (go Cocks!)
Georgia-Bama (don't care, don't play either)

Florida plays Auburn (whatever)
Kentucky plays Arkansas (Go Big Blue I guess, we don't play the Hogs)
Mizzou-Ole Miss (Sat-Monday series, so go Tigers, since we play them next weekend)

aggy has their SEC bye, so they are hosting LMU

Vanderbilt still doesn't have and is not planning to add softball (hence every team getting a bye weekend)

aggy plays Loyola Marymount this coming weekend.  They have  a 14-17 record….they lost earlier in a game with OU 9-0.  Should be an easy sweep.

Most schools so far seem to be using their SEC bye weekend to play nobodies, with the exception of Texas (Ohio State), OU (UCF), SoCar (Texas Tech)

Texas did play the Ohio State tournament (which included top 25 Ohio State in their home stadium)
South Carolina played Tech (good for them)
OU is going to play St Thomas and UCF next weekend during their bye weekend at UCF - those 2 UCF games might be ones to watch after UCF beat Florida this week
MSST played Northwestern (took 2/3)
Bama played a tournament with ULL and Iowa
LSU played a tournament with South Alabama and Minnesota
Tenn played UConn
Arky is playing Colorado State

Not looking for any offensive records to be set in this one. Guess we'll see how many total innings Chafin and Kavan have to go over the weekend.

They've given up 4, 4, 4, 1, 7, 3 in SEC play (3.83 rpg)
Texas has given up 2, 7, 3, 5, 2, 3 in SEC play (3.67 rpg)

MSU has scored 5, 9, 7, 9, 4, 4 in SEC play (6.33 rpg)
Texas has scored 7, 13, 1, 12, 7, 13 in SEC play (8.83 rpg)

I like our offense to win us this series

Chaffin retires Texas in order. Hopefully Kavan can reciprocate in the bottom of the first.
