Oregon is at times putting up 20+ runs per game against weak Big10 competition. They aren’t being challenged in their new conference

They play UCLA April 18-20 and then Indiana April 25-27

They do not play Ohio State or Nebraska

If Indiana is the second toughest series left on their schedule that says a lot about how putrid their schedule is

The B1G conference is notoriously shitty. Michigan and Northwestern have been the exceptions the last few years, but they are both shitty this year also. Ohio State is decent and Nebraska has Jordy Bahl so that gives them a chance in any game. The title should come down to Oregon and UCLA, but I don't think either of those teams can win a 3 game series against the top 4 teams in the SEC.

Florida State blanked the Gators, 4-0

FSU coach Lonnie Alameda has been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. I suspect this team may rally around her as the season goes on. Not sure what is going on with the Gators, but they have not performed up to expectations this year. Even with Rothrock back, they have struggled in games they shouldn't.

Great ambassador for the game.   Hopefully,  she will overcome like Coach Wyckoff,  FSU WBB coach.

Quote

Lonni Alameda gave herself a few weeks to process the news of her breast cancer diagnosis.

It came as a shock, and before she sat down her Florida State softball team to break the news, she made a phone call.

The call?

She phoned FSU women's basketball head coach Brooke Wykcoff, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023 and has continued coaching the Seminoles while dealing with the new reality of her illness.

"I reached out to her because I was trying to really figure out how to navigate this, to then navigate the team," Alameda said. "That's the first thing. You got to get yourself going, and then you need to break it to your staff, and then break it to your team, right? So it was just, 'I don't know what's ahead of us, but this is our plan as we're moving forward.'

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

"Brooke has been really good and is in the same position."

That call and Alameda's connection with her team, which she describes as "family," led her to tell the team her news last week. She will continue to coach and has plans made with the team on how she'll balance those responsibilities and her health.

10 am tomorrow now due to weather. Good ol’ Friday breakfast softball.

Central? Hell yeah, 9am for me

Mizzou has only one player hitting over .320 - .270 as a team.

Really only 2 major power threats - Crenshaw (10 HR, .373) and Walker (13 HR, .246).  2 other plays with 8 and 6 HR and then not much else.  Crenshaw has 4 of her 10 HR in SEC play, while 12 of Walker's 13 HRs were in non-conf play.  Mizzou is only hitting .233 with 11 HR in SEC play

They have a team 3.49 ERA overall, which balloons to 5.13 ERA in SEC play

Their workhorse in SEC play has been Marissa McCann (6.53 ERA in 24.2 IP), followed by Ciera Harrison (3.06 ERA in 16 IP).

They are near the bottom of the SEC standings for a reason (2-7), but they did hold OU to 1 run in that game 2 victory.

They got swept by a really average Kentucky team (6-4, 5-4, 9-6), lost 2 of 3 to OU (8-0, 5-1, 3-1 W) and lost 2 of 3 to Ole Miss (1-0, 5-3, 9-5 W)

Texas needs to sweep

The flip side of that is Texas' .350 SEC batting average, with 14 HR

Team ERA in SEC play is 2.79, mostly due to Cam's 28.00 ERA in 1 IP.  If you remove that, 2.37 ERA

And before anyone says "omg, 2.79 is not good for Texas" - Tennessee is 2.98, OU is 3.33, Florida is 3.81, LSU is 1.99 (with the easiest schedule of the top 5 SEC teams)

Texas - Florida, Auburn, MSST
Tenn - Georgia, Arky, OU
OU - South Carolina, Arky, Mizzou, Tenn
Florida - aggy, Texas, Auburn
LSU - Kentucky, Georgia, South Carolina

Hitting has gotten so much better the last several years. I don’t know that we will see many more sub 2.0 ERA numbers moving forward.

Exactly the swing and analytics have gotten so much better.    Thats why these freshman pitchers rarely come in and take over as an ace anymore.

Not seeing a real rain break coming on radar or in the forecast. Unfortunately, the situation might well continue until late in the night. Maybe we can get one in 24 hours or so from now and then two on Sunday.

Today's rescheduled doubleheader has managed to coincide with the only real chance of rain in Columbia (50-60% chance from 1-4 pm). Cold and windy all day regardless of any moisture. Hopefully we can get in at least one of the games. Tomorrow's forecast for there is drier but still brisk.

Florida is in a free fall. Jackass Tim Walton should have broke the bank to keep Jen Rocha on staff. She could relate to the players, where he is a zero personality narcissistic asshole.
