Texas Softball 2025 - Sick of Being Second Place

Meylan has a year of eligibility left. Based on how she pitches and the arms we have returning, I'd be thrilled to see her in burnt orange. Shouldn't have to lean on TK like this every year.

Didn’t someone post during the Tenn series that “Peyton Tanner will be a Horn next year?”  She’s a Texas girl.

Stealing a great freshman from within the conference would be even better.

Probably because she's dating a baseball player

Whatever works. We’d love to have her to pair with TK and Wells and Cit/Cam

Also I’m sure this team was looking ahead a little. It’s natural, you’re going to OU and you want revenge for last year’s WCWS finals

I’m surprised we cared enough to use TK.

On the one hand, yes. On the other hand, putting her in a 7th inning save opportunity on the road felt like good experience and she got a little work before Friday

We really need CG to keep pitching like this. She was locating and spinning it great tonight.

I’m not sure what the deal is with our bats. Holding joley out of the lineup is no bueno. Neither Vic hunter nor (my favorite) Katie C is doing shit right now. Our best hitter is Mia. She is patient, works the count. Can stay back and adjust to offspeed. The girls need to learn from her.

These girls throw every day anyway, so getting her an inning of work is no big deal.

Seriously - TK + that version of CG is 2 wins in Norman.

Whatever we get from Mac would just be a bonus.

My guess is Mike gave Cit the opportunity to earn her way into the game 2 start the next 2 weekends + postseason. She earned it.  Go ahead and throw her Saturday.  Mac can come out of the pen Friday-Sat-Sun as needed.

CG and TK are now neck and neck in the team lead in ERA - 1.63 for TK, 1.64 for Cit.  I bet Cit would have a lower ERA if she got to throw the 7th yesterday

My guess for the weekend:

Friday - Kavan (20-3, 1.63 ERA; 11-2, 1.56 SEC) vs. Sam Landry (15-3, 1.89 ERA; 6-3, 2.06 SEC)
Saturday - Citlaly (9-0, 1.64 ERA; 2-0, 3.46 ERA) vs. Kierston Deal (8-1, 2.98 ERA; 2-1, 4.09 SEC)
Sunday - Kavan vs. Landry

Texas pen - Mac (7-3, 2.07 ERA; 0-3, 4.27 SEC), Cam Salmon (6-0, 2.07 ERA; 0-0, 5.00 SEC)
OU pen - Isabella Smith (9-1, 2.59 ERA; 3-1, 7.15 SEC), Audrey Lowry (5-0, 2.75 ERA; 1-0, 4.06 SEC)

Those are some big ERAs for OU pitching in the SEC.  This ain't the 4-peat team, that's for sure

Texas offense:

.359 as a team, 64 HR, 71 doubles, 15 triples, .595 SLG%, 65-76 SB

In SEC Play: .301, 23 HR, 19 doubles, 4 triples, .503 SLG%, 10-14 SB

Texas pitching: 2.07 ERA

Texas pitching in SEC play: 2.63 ERA

OU offense:

.330 as a team, 84 HR, 72 doubles, 7 triples, .632 SLG%, 53-65 SB

In SEC play: .258, 31 HR, 24 doubles, 1 triple, .515 SLG%, 8-13 SB

OU pitching: 2.53 ERA

OU pitching in SEC play: 3.30 ERA

Texas appears to have the pitching edge and overall offense, but OU has hit more HR and slugs a bit higher

I think we go 1-2 in Norman.  We'll see.  They just have our number, until they don't.

The TK + Landry games will be really fun to watch.
The middle game could do either way, depends on which versions of Cit and Mac we get

Thank god Maxwell is gone.  Deal is having a subpar year, so I like our chances when we see her.

The experience factor is def in our favor.

I thought we had seen Sam Landry more, considering we play ULL 1-2 times every year, but we haven't seen her that much. Twice in 2022, once in 2024.

2 innings in March 2022 - 1 ER, 2 K
1.2 innings again in March 2022 - 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
1.1 innings in February 2024 - 3 ER, 2 K

I always felt like Cit could do good. But please don't walk a .226 hitter with 1 HR and the bases empty. Go after them. I don't have a problem walking a .400 hitter with 15 HR and someone of base, but that is really dangerous. Fortunately she got out of it with that runner on 3rd.

We beat them last year in the regular season. It’s the post season where we fall flat against Sooner. I think we go 2-1

I think we go 2-1 as well

But there's a lot of IFs

IF we get good Cit and serviceable Mac
IF our hitting becomes more patient again
IF the pressure of the RRS gets to all the OU players who are brand new to it
IF Mike gets his head out of his ass and Mitchell plays all 3 games (unless she's hurt)
IF we go again with the Stewie/Goode MIF combo, push Bennett to the OF and Katie C is DP

I’m not saying the Big12 is a mid major, but Texas Tech is on the outside looking in to host a regional and they are sitting in 1st place in the Big12

RPI is 20, but I've said already that the RPI is super wonky this year; the committee is going to have to do additional work besides just relying on RPI

8-8 in conf OKST is 18, but they not even in the discussion to host

35-11 South Carolina is 4th, but they aren't in the top 8 discussion

OU and Tenn are 9 and 10 and are going to be a top 5 seed

Arizona is 2nd in the Big 12, but 12th in RPI.  Tech is above them in the pecking order based on conf standing

If you look at KPI, the top 16 would likely be (in no order)

aggy
Florida
Tenn
OU
UCLA
Arky
Texas
LSU
Florida State
South Carolina
Arizona
Virginia Tech
Duke
Oregon
Texas Tech
Stanford

Which sounds right to me

RPI is an imperfect system. You’re better off getting swept by a top 10 team than sweeping a top 20 team. With RPI Your schedule is more important than your Wins. It should be a small component of the final seedings but not deciding factor like the talking heads make it out to be

It’s not. I recall last year that Duke had a high RPI but didn’t get a national seed due to lack of top 10 wins. So they do look at other factors

Texas will get dinged for the NCSOS (113) but lead the nation in Q1 wins (15-6) and their 13-2 road record are in their favor. As well as currently having 5 top 10 wins (so far) and 12 top 25 wins, including 2 at Florida, 1 at Arizona, 1 at OKST, 2 at MSST and 1 at Ohio State
