Fuckin' hipsters have gone too far.
"New York City restaurant has divided the internet after it unveiled a smoked 'ham' on the menu — which is actually made entirely out of watermelon."

that sounds like it would have a horrendous consistency.  plus, it's just sweet tofurkey, right?

that said, i saw a tim love deal on grilled watermelon and did it alongside some grilled chicken and sausage, and it was pretty damn good.  1.5-2" slices, cut into wedges, grilled a few minutes to get some char.  serve topped with chili powder, kosher salt, and some lemon juice.  was a nice change to the boilerplate summer grill dinner.  had that stuff with a nice, tart gose.

I know I’m going to restaurants based on nutrition. (That said this is beyond dumb)

Yeah, by nutrition I just meant calories. Watermelon as it is has very few calories. Brining and smoking it wont change that. If you fried it in lard I might consider it.

Grilled watermelon with feta, mint, and a balsamic glaze is the tits.  That abortion of a creation needs be destroyed....

GW Fins makes something damn close but they compress the watermelon to give it more of a firm bite and don't grill it.

Excellent.

yep. but grill haloumi instead of feta

smoking fruit or veggies never works. its porous. it absorbs all the shitty parts of the smoke. stupid.

I really wonder how much this restaurant is charging for a dish that has close to zero nutrition.

oh? you pay for your food based on nutritional value do you?

guy in the video is the taster video creator, not the guy who makes this dish

Then exactly what I'd expect the guy tasting that dish to look like.
