2024-2025 Houston Rockets thread - Prepare for Liftoff 🚀

I’m in favor of keeping this team in tact as is, but trade discussion this close to the deadline is definitely in play as a reasonable topic, especially with how much draft capital this team has in the years to come. I just don’t want to see Reed Sheppard included in anything, especially with the presumption that Ime will be the coach here for a while. Reed was built for a coach like Ime, elite shooter, hustle defender, high IQ, etc..

I’d wait out the Suns for Booker or the Sixers for Maxey. One or both will have to blow up their teams in the near future.

I’ll give Shepherd a season mulligan because he payed so little college basketball. Thankfully, no rookies drafted after the third pick have broken out. I wish he were playing more, but he’s just not ready to be our backup PG. It’s a problem. FVV is steady, but limited. If Holiday wasn’t a PG, he probably wouldn’t be in the rotation. Thank goodness Amen can play all 5 positions

The Athletic is reporting the Rockets won’t be involved “at all” in Fox trade talks. “Like their team. Want to see where is goes.”

Fox makes little sense, because the Rockets are keeping Van Vleet for the duration of his deal. Ime loves him. The guys that are available that make the most sense for the Rockets would be Williams, Johnson, and Lonzo Ball.

You simply have to stick with this squad and see what happens in the postseason. Playoff basketball is a different animal, maybe the inexperience for most of them will be detrimental.

But this team plays with the kind of physicality and defense needed for playoff basketball. It's fair to think they can make a run if they stay healthy. As a fanbase, we've had to be very patient with the rebuild. I don't want to make any big moves this year. We finally have the juice, let it play out and adjust the roster as necessary in the offseason.

Fox is a great player and could be an upgrade at one of the guard positions, but it's not like he has extensive playoff experience either (7 games).

That’s a serious consdideration, but one that can only happen in the offseason. No way Philly blows it up before the deadline this year.

Unless someone wants a deal involving Londale and some 2nds/Far future 1s, we should ride with this group. It’s not a hot start anymore, we’re a legit top-3 team in the West….

I think it would be incredibly short sighted to sit on 40m in expiring deals and not make a move. They have plenty of future picks to use, and they can't keep everyone, not do they have the minutes. The core of this team is pretty well solidified, but it's not perfect. There is room to improve, and they could add a good 3pt shooter without losing anyone in the current rotation. Reed needs time to develop, he's not going to be the sharpshooter they need this year.

This team positioned itself with lots of trade chips, and I think they should use some instead of letting them expire this off-season. This is our last year of cheap Sengun and Green, so if there is a way to get a good player for essentially junk contracts and future picks, they should try and make a move.

Maxey isn't going anywhere, he's a foundation piece that you build around.

I think some realistic options would be gettable are Walker Kessler, DeRozan, Chris Boucher, Cam Johnson, Olynyk, Valanciunas and Jordan Clarkson. All those guys are on teams going no where and looking for picks and expiring contracts. Getting a C that can help with time protection would probably help with some of the bigger teams in the playoffs, and another scorer off the bench would be good to have. It also helps insulate the team against injuries and adding depth.
