2024-2025 Houston Rockets thread - Prepare for Liftoff ๐Ÿš€

Green was awful in the second half. Dribbling out entire shot clocks with zero passing and eventual turnover.ย
ย

In the third, watch the body language of the rest of the squad as Green plays ball stopper.ย
ย

Looked like year one Green at times. Guess the Grizzly trash talk got in his head. That and all of the attention Amen has gotten the past 15 games where many are suggesting he is already Houstonโ€™s best player and has superstar potential.ย
ย

Green relegated to a streaky two guard.ย

With no Alpi it really shows how we become way more limited on offense as well.ย  Can't do the pick and roll him an Fred have pretty much mastered, along with Alpi's passing out of it etc.ย  I love what Adams has provided, especially when it comes to rebounding, but Alpi is obviously much more dynamic when it comes to offense.ย ย

This is the reason I didn't go crazy about the 1 pt loss. Best player was out.

If he's going to be out for a while, they have to learn to get points without him, but that was a game to care less about. A win would have been good. The loss was whatever.

Heard on radio this morning that Rockets, Ime, and FVV had mutual interest in changing the $44m team option for next season into 3 years, ~$100m.ย

Yeesh, that seems like way too much for him. He got 2 years and about 84m so far, which is probably an overpay of 34m for his talent. I thought they would have a bit more goodwill saved up to get to a better deal than that for the future.ย

It also makes me want them to go get another point guard with all those expiring contracts and get some leverage on the situation.ย

Yeah, so he gets an extra year for $16M, seems like a decent deal for both parties if they are happy. Reduces his figure from $44M to $33M, unless I don't understand the extension correctly, which happens all the time. The NBA salary cap was invented to give accountants that got tired of tax season a full year of work.

FVV's stats and efficiency have declined a bit this year and he will be 31 in the offseason, so I'm not to keen on that number unless it's a 1+1 with a team option.ย  I don't think other teams will offer him more than 25m a year on a deal of 2-3 years.ย  De'aaron fox is making 34 and 37 million this year and next, and people are worried about that being too much.ย  FVV is nowhere near the offense generator he is and is much older. I like him, but I don't like him for that price, as they are now graduating the guys like Green and Sengun to much more expensive deals.ย

Houston Rockets

Bontemps:ย It remains to be seen when Houston will push its chips in for a star. Whatย hasย been seen over the past month is thatย Amen Thompsonย truly has the chance to be one.

Just look at these numbers across January, when Thompson, the fourth pick in last year's draft, has been in the starting lineup afterย Jabari Smith Jr.'s shoulder injury: 18.5 points, 10.9 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.2 blocks per game, while shooting 56.7% from the floor.

And his final minute in Boston Monday -- including a tremendous move to shakeย Jaylen Brownย and sink the winning bucket with less than a second to go -- showed why sources have told me Houston believes he has as much upside as any of its young stars.

Windhorst:ย Rockets GM Rafael Stone has a case for Executive of the Year as picked by his peers, though Presti is likely the favorite to win the honor for the first time. Stone's draft picks, namely Thompson, are the central reason, but Stone's decision to hire Ime Udoka as coach in 2023 looks like it might've been a franchise-changing choice. Aligning a roster with a coach is one of the hardest things to do in the league, especially in short order, but the Rockets have no doubt made it happen. This team exudes Udoka's personality, especially at the defensive end.

Bontemps:ย The Rockets have also consistently taken the position, sources said, that they are going to see this season through before any significant tinkering. That is partially because the franchise wants to first see what its young core -- Thompson, Smith,ย Jalen Green,ย Alperen Sengun,ย Tari Eason,ย Reed Sheppardย and others -- can accomplish in the crucible of the playoffs.

Both Green and Sengun signed rookie extensions in the fall that don't kick in until July. Does that mean one, or either, would be included in deals? No. But it would give Houston maximum flexibility to remake the roster as it chooses. Already well ahead of the most optimistic expectations for this season, the Rockets have every incentive to be patient.
