If KD is out of Phoenix, then Booker should be a on the block soon... Between the 2 of them, I would prefer Booker, but this trade can get either of them.  The Rockets have a ton of expiring contracts they can leverage to go get an allstar and replace Jalen Green in the process while the Suns get a young, budding star to build around! Detroit gets a 1st for taking on some salary. Win-Win-Win!

Man, I know Booker is good but that’s a lot to trade for anyone.

It's the Nets type of deal, you have to give back their picks or they won't trade him to anyone, and the Rockets hold all those cards.  Booker is under contract for 3 more years, so no concern of him leaving, and he's only 28. Would be awesome to upgrade from Jalen Green to him as your guy trying to create shots for himself in tight games.  None of the players in that trade will be anywhere as good as Booker is, and the picks have no guarantee to result in a player like him.  It's a lot of future cap space, but maybe it would help them get that next Fred contract into a realistic range for his talents, because 33m to that guy is an overpay.

Maybe?  I’m a little reluctant to give back ALL of them.  Let’s remember that we have OKC and (to a lesser extent) San Antonio all in about the same part of the success cycle but with ample draft capital left remaining.  I don’t want to end up like the pre-Luka trade Mavericks with not a lot of ways to improve over the next three or four years aside from internal player development.

I think (and have to imagine Stone thinks this) there is some chance the Suns implode even with Booker.  The fact the Suns appear open to trading Durant and adding Butler is a good indicator that they don’t feel great about the current trajectory.

[Charania] The Boston Celtics are trading Jaden Springer and their 2030 second-round pick to the Houston Rockets, sources tell ESPN. Both teams are also exchanging heavily protected second-rounders.

Bummed to lose him.  I know he's buried on the bench, but he's a defensive stud.  If he can figure out his shot, y'all will love him.

Sounds like he will fit right in...

Yeah, I think the Suns will kind of suck in the future too, but I don't think they are going to be bottom 5 in the league for several years in a row. This is Phoenix we are talking about, not Memphis, SLC, Milwaukee or Oklahoma City, players actually like to live there. I think they will still attract good players and remain relevant.

I'm also in the camp that believes Jalen Green is not the long term answer that this team needs. I think his new deal makes him a negative value asset starting next year, and upgrading from him to Booker or KD would be worth it. It helps divert that salary into a player that can be a foundational piece of your franchise's future rather than hoping he turns out to be more like Clyde Drexler rather than Jordan Poole.

If a deal like this is possible, and you have Jalens 29m taking up a large chunk of that salary, I'm all for it. Upgrading from Green is exactly what this team needs, smarter guys taking better shots all game, especially during the last 2 minutes.

I think if Green was a rookie after three years in college and with these stats he’d be the favorite for ROY.  He’s kind of in contract limbo (not good enough for the max and with too much potential to sign something long).  On board with upgrading there but I’d feel a lot better about it two years from now and presuming he’s not improved in the interim.

Is KD likely to make a huge impact with this year's team's success? We'd hope this team as is could make it at least to the second round. Since leaving Golden State, KD's team's went:

'21 Nets - 2nd round exit

'22 Nets - 1st round exit

'23 Suns - 2nd round exit

'24 Suns - 1st round exit

I'd trade Jalen Green and filler for KD, but I wouldn't give Phoenix their picks back. It's still a good trade for Phoenix if they think Green could still become a star at a currently lower price point and younger than KD. KD could be the man to take clutch shots down the stretch of games for Houston, or he could be an aging star who breaks down.

Yes.
Instantly their best shooter, scorer and clutch time player.

Fits defensively with switching, can play a floor spacing small ball 5 with Alpi on the court.

Would getting one of the best scorers in NBA history who is still putting up 27/6/4 make a huge impact on a team that doesn't have a go to scorer that can be relied on? Hmmm... tough question, I'm not sure.

But his teams didn't progress far in the playoffs!!!

I think the Nets have several bidders for Cam, and it will take a lot to get him, but yeah his salary and age is very well aligned with this teams future.

KD is reportedly available, but I would imagine the Suns are asking too much. The Rockets are the best suitor for a KD trade as they have plenty of expiring salary to match, and the Suns picks as incentive.

Cody fucking Zeller?  Had no idea he was still in the league. We have to be flipping that salary for.... something?

Edited to add..... apparently Atlanta needed to dump that contract and we take our second back for taking it on?  OK?  NBA trades are weird.

Yeah he hasn’t even played this year. Looks like we’re just buying a draft pick.

What does Zeller do that Landale can't? Seems like a worthless pickup, when they could have tried to get a scorer like Cam Johnson. KD was probably never gonna happen, but they need someone that can hit 3s at a decent clip.

He hasn't played at all this season due to personal reasons. He's not going to play here either, the Rockets traded for the salary to get a fucking 2nd round pick. Stone is just a fucking nobody pretending to be a GM. Just like Jalen Green is a nobody pretending to be a star player. Both need to get gone for the franchise to take the next step forward.
