2024-2025 Houston Rockets thread - Prepare for Liftoff 🚀

This is for @HtownHorn. I think it’s time to stop hating brother :) What’s different about this year is that Jalen has been good since Thanksgiving, he is attacking the basket, making the right reads and making the extra pass and, finally, he is doing this against top notch competition unlike the weak schedule last March.

The Celtics camped on those Nets picks years ago and it turned them into a perennial contender. The Rockets traded Harden and sucked for 2+ years to get Jalen, Jabari, Amen, and the Nets (now Suns) picks. I wouldn't give the draft assets up for a 36 y.o. KD. If the Suns want to reset their franchise and clear KD's 2025-2026 salary from the books, they could take on FVV's expiring contract and get one of our promising young players (Jabari or Cam?). Those draft picks could turn into one or more studs at a time when Houston may be entering salary cap hell between Jalen, Sengun, Amen, etc.

56 years in the NBA and two titles. If Durant gets you a title window for the next two seasons and you can do it without sacrificing the young core, you have to go for it.

we have the coaching and the core to go on a run. added picks can be used to draft the right pieces or trade for the right player. this team is in a very gold position.

agreed.  if you can get KD without it costing Green, Sengun, Amen, or Jabari, you do it every time.

even if not KD, I hope the Rockets add an impact veteran at the deadline.  Feels like a really big move won't really be on the table until the summer, but I do hope they add someone who has some experience winning at the deadline.

With OKC having no proven playoff leaders, Durant would be a huge boost in a head to head matchup. Durant wants the last shot of the game.

I’m still waiting for the chair to be pulled out with this team but that’s because we haven’t won in forever. Definitely won’t win much in a 7 games series without a veteran. Not sure I would want KD because we can’t get him without giving up a piece of the core.

Think there is little chance we keep the core together anyway

Alpi/Green

Amen

Tari/Bari/Whitmore

Reed

Cant keep them all

No doubt, though I think the only way that happens is if Phoenix goes belly-up immediately….

Slacks walks in and the Rockets are down double digits.

It's like I'm on the team.

You're cut, hoe.

Smith is getting Pipp'd. Don't see how he gets his spot back when he returns from injury. Thompson is such an elite athlete for a 4.

If you are trading for Durant, Smith and Whitmore are the two guys you are offering along with Van Vleet for the money to work. Durant would be taking Smith's spot anyway. Your starting 5 would be Green, Brooks, Thompson, Durant, and Sengun.

I think Brooks would be the best player to start with at $22 million

Landale 8 million

Tate 7.5 million

Holiday 4.6 million

Adams 12.6

Jeff Green 8 million

Rookies:

Sheppard 10 million

Smith 10 million

Tari 3.7

Cam 3.3

lots of ways to get to Durant's 52 million dollar salary and only give one youngster

Lose Smith and Brooks plus filler

Starting 5

FVV

Green

Durant

Thompson

Alpi

Bench:

Kam, Tari, Reed, Adams, Holiday

This is the stretch where the whole of the NBA believes we'll come back down to earth.  This loss didn't help.  Just go get one of the Cleveland games to make up for it.
