Hah, OK I know I said β€œdon’t do shit” at the trading deadline but I’d be all over that deal, and I’m a big Tate fan. Have to give something to get something…

You and I are the only Tate fans.

Like Jalen, people are basing their opinions on how shit used to be. The young core roster is getting better every day….

Some great analysis of Amen and Tari playing some stifling defense. Gotta love the personality of this team right now, defense wins championships, and they certainly have plenty of it. Comparing these guys to E. Honda is high praise, but apt, as they are constantly engaged and hunting for steals.Β

Of the Cavs few losses this year, the 2 to ATL, 1 to OKC and 2 to Houston were all because of long armed wings giving their shooters fits. The Cavs win shootouts without much sweat, but the tougher, high energy defenses have been their kryptonite. It bodes well for the Rockets playoff chances this year, but also for the future, as Fred is the only key free agent on this team, and with the way Amen is playing, he soon won't be needed.Β

Fred seems to be key this season as the coach on the floor. Betting Ime wants him back.Β

Yeah. Games don't flow on offense when Fred is out. Team isn't quite there yet.Β

Defense is ready.

Nah, the key to the season so far was Thompson taking over in the starting lineup for an injured Smith. Amen will be the unquestioned team leader next season, and is likely the star we have been after. He can guard 1-5 and has high level basketball IQ on both offense and defense. If he ever gets it to 33% and 80%, he's a MVP level player.

Would love to see Thompson, Whitmore, Eason, Smith, and Sengun on the floor together.

We looked lost offensively on 1/16/25 against the Kings with Fred out and Amen/Green running the offense.Β  Long term, he (FVV) is not the future at PG for the Rockets, but this season, we are better with him on the court than off.Β  Hopefully his playoff experience will help the young core in the upcoming playoff series.Β

MVP Level may be a bit of stretch imo. Absolutely love his game and everything he brings nightly. But lets be honest with ourselves, he’s never going to generate #s in the types of categories thats going to warrant any real β€œleague” mvp consideration. But thats just fine by me. Cause what he does do is provide grit and do the dirty work that makes a difference on championship caliber teams (i.e. - the Dennis Rodman, Robert Horry, Shane Battier, Iggy’s of the world) - difference being that he makes it look beautiful with how athletic and explosive he is!!! Special unique talent

If he gets a consistent shot, he becomes Scottie Pippen, and that is MVP level play.

Agreed and if he evolves into a Scottie Pippen type of player, what a player he’d be. But that ain’t mvp level - scottie’s highest finish ever was 3rd I think once

He finished Top-10 5 times and 11th another time. Considering their is only 1 MVP for the entire league, Top 10 is nothing to sneeze at, but if you told me today that Thompson would become a HOF'er I think everyone on this thread would take it. What is interesting is how their 1st two years have been very similar.

Youngstas putting up another fight tonight. Win or lose love the way they’re competing!!!
Would say they need to limit the C’s 3s but just not sure how you do that effectively when they take the volume of them they do…and Dillon is unconscious right now!!!

Bill Simmons is too lazy for a daily podcast, but I’d love to be in his group texts right now. He just has a weird hatred for the Rockets. The fuck Jalen Green comment out of nowhere, the regarded trade ideas that would have wrecked the franchise, it goes on and on.Β

i don't listen all the time, but from what i've listened to lately he's very high on this version of the Rockets.

In all honesty, not sure I can remember a regular season game that has me this hyped since Harden hit that buzzer beater vs the Warriors.

The professional basketball people at the Ringer that actually follow and know ball love the Rockets. I’d imagine they’re feeding Bill talking points so he doesn’t sound regarded when he has Russillo on.Β

He is. And he’s far from lazy. He personally participates in multiple podcasts each week as well as overseeing his rather extensive podcast network and the Ringer website.Β
