I think it’s mute bc the gameplan is different with Quinn.

But also Quinn doesn’t throw the deep ball anywhere close to as well as Arch. He would have missed half of those epic deep shots IMO.

Maybe the end result in pts is the same, but how we get to the 35 pts is different.
Our screen game sucked a big one in this. Quinn gets the ball out there faster with is sidearm shortstop throws.
Also we did nothing over the middle and I have to think we would have seen more of that to the TE if Quinn is in.

"mute"?

Hell the 3rd down attempt his goddamn knees were on the goalline with only his feet sticking out of the End Zone like The Wicked Witch and they still hemmed and hawed and waited like 20 seconds to signal TD

Maybe they trying to confirm he wasn’t holding the ball with his feet.  You ever think of that?

yep.  my concern is MSU had solid success running it right up the gut.  that really ate up clock. arch can't be arch on the sidelines.  KY used the same approach on UGA and Ol Miss.  I imagine we can expect this strategy to be used against Texas the rest of the year.
That has been a problem since game one of we're honest. It seems like we either stuff the run for a TFL or let them rumble for 8-10 yards, and MSU had far more of the former than anyone else we've played so far including Michigan.

Ant Hill (along with the other LB's) being a bit too aggressive and either running past the play or getting caught up in the dogfight among our DT's vs O-line seems to be a large part of the issue. Hope they get this shit straightened out by bloU.

Did they have success?
They ran the ball 50 times for 150 yards. Some decent runs mixed in with a lot of negative plays behind the line of scrimmage. PK seemed content just letting Mississippi State be conservative and keeping the ball in front.

This is how our run D has been so far, feast or famine. We're going to face better O-lines and RB's in the future, need to limit the famine part.

We can thank Cook for the missed block on Wingo injury. He drops TD pass then lazy missed block on Wingo screen. The catch later was NOT a make up. He’s selfish.

Mea culpa. Mea culpa. I was wrong.  It WAS Bond who issued the block that got Wingo hurt.

Did anyone get a pic or gif of Van Buren matching wits with the elementary school kids with a horns down?

I’m embracing Horns down. We should do it to them whenever we feel like it. Ruins their day when they’re getting the shit beat of of em. AND when we’re #1! Embrace it people. Stick it up their butts. Start with it down then raise it up high. It’s not like MM and half the team does it properly anyway. Metal heads have co-opted our fabulous hand sign anyway!

Look.  It’s easy.  Someone needs to just print up a shirt (burnt orange preferably) with two hands giving the horns down.  Captioned with “We get it.  You hate us more than you love yourselves.”

Actually, only three times.  Wisner's knee was clearly down before the ball broke the plane on the first and goal play.

But Arch's long run and his first QB sneak both should have been ruled TD's.

Burnt ends should print these up and sell em. Prob become a thing like the “Catholics v Convicts” shirts. We can sell these and revers the curse on the asssholes who flash it at our players. Hell, let our players model them.

The worst was the spot. The scramble was definitely tight. Hard to tell if he hit the pylon before his knee hit, so I understood not over-turning the ruling on the field. That said the ball was definitely inside of 6 inches of the end zone. Marking it at the 1.5 was just ridiculous

Agreed about the spot, and I basically said the same thing at the time in the game thread.

Rewatching the game, if Blue doesn't fumble on that second drive, this would have been a much different game. That gave them hope. We need to strangle that out of out of our opponents.

Yep.  Get up 2 scores after 2 drives and it's going to be hard for any coach to stay patient with 3-4 yard runs and burning clock.

The second fumble was almost as bad. Pretty sure he watched the rest of the game from the bench after that.

It was 3rd down when he fumbled, right? I assume we would have gone for it on that 4th and 1 yard or whatever it would have been.

The game script was so odd for about the first 3 quarters, especially the first half where Mississippi State had the ball the entire time. We ran 5 total run plays in the first half (6 if you include an Arch sack): Blue 1-yard TD, Blue 4-yards, Blue fumble loss of a yard, Wisner loss of 3 yards, Blue 4-yards. I believe it ended up being 6 carries for 3 yards.

So the second half was 26 carries for 195 yards, which is much more in line with what we expected coming into the game.

Sarkisian loves to open with the quick passing plays to get the QB and WRs in a rythym and then goes to the running game after we are up several scores and the defense is worn out from chasing sideline to sideline, the exact gameplan we used to wear down Michigan. It works when your RB doesn't fumble.

That did not look like a briles offense at all. It was power run to the tune of 3.5 every time, barely move the chains, and some rpo mixed in to catch our lbs in conflict and throw slants behind them.  A couple of deep shots late but only when the score started to get away.

Briles would have made us defend sideline to sideline with wr screens and outside runs, not just between the hashes.

They were running WR stacks in wide splits forcing us to pull at least 4 dudes from the run game. Then they would see how we were handling the box after that. We showed them a basic box so they correctly chose to run on us time and time again. While we are nowhere near as stout as we were last year vs the run, getting run on by a Briles offense isn't that bad considering we never tried to truly shut it down.

Quinn playing would’ve changed nothing. Arch played great and we gave away 4 drives we wouldve scored on if Blue doesn’t fumble twice, Johntay doesn’t drop the wide open touchdown on a perfect throw, and Sark goes for it on 4th after making the FG. game should have been 28-6 at half

I think we have to stop with the Quinn would've changed nothing or Quinn wouldn't hit on the deep ball.

QE's quick passing game is pretty amazing. Dude gets the ball out on time and in rhythm. His short passing game is just an extension of the running game.

The other thing is the Quinn can't hit the deep ball opinion was developed due to his largely missing one receiver, and that is Xavier Worthy. We gotta let that go. We didn't miss other receivers deep like that just him. Quinn seemed to have little issue hitting AD.

Agree. Rewatched it. We would have at least 10-14 more points in the first half without mistakes (Blues fist fumble, Cook’s drop), not to mention the weird decision to take 3 points off the board (and that FG was due to back-to/back penalties on Helm). That’s at least 13-17 points right there, and that’s not even counting Blue’s 2nd fumble.

Yeah we should have been up by at least 3 scores before half. If Blue hadn't fumble and if Johntay hadn't drooped that perfect bomb from Arch. Going back, he started to turn up field before looking it in and securing the catch. That can be fixed and thank God we have 2 weeks to clean it up.

P.S. Sark take your points!

It's been discussed here already, but one of the huge advantages OU had in recent years was playing a soft schedule where they could run entirely new stuff against us.

Feels like that's a major advantage for us this year. We've been able to stay in a very base D because offenses have been unable to challenge us. I don't think we've shown much of anything yet on D personnel/scheme-wise.

In post game Sark said he was kicking himself, as he had another play in the bag and that was instinct and changed it.  iirc it was very short down and distance and ran to the right on a stretch play.  Could have been to the short side too, thats not our game...we arent really a groud and pound O with all of our speed.  Thought that was an interesting comment by Sark.

Go back and rewatch the Bevo/Uga interaction.  What did Bevo do when he meant business and was going to fuck up some shit?  He put his Horns down.

For the SEC... You motherfuckers want the Horns down? Well, you're about to get them.
