A lot of the people who are paying attention and have been paying attention for months, we aren't the audience for this. We've grown accustomed to the clapbacks, epic takedowns, and general theatrics. We winced at several missed opportunities to rip Vance's head off and shit down his neck, but that's because we know how much of a danger and liar Vance is.

The people who were just barely getting to know these candidates aren't looking for the things we're looking for. I think that's why Walz's results are exceeding what we thought they'd be.

The biggest dragging EVAR in a VP debate, total and complete nuclear missile launched was by Lloyd Bentsen.  Outcome?  Dukakis got booty blasted.  This shit is only meaningful on the far-end of the margins, if at all.

Vance’s oh shit moment when he got asked about who won the 2020 election wasn’t because he felt bad about being evasive, it was because he knew Trump wanted a full throated defense of his false claims

I really didn't understand his "Trump saved Obamacare" strategy either, can't imagine many on the right like that response considering they've called it a socialist hellscape for so long. If it was so bad how was it salvagable?

Listen. It's pretty obvious that something horrible has happened to this woman and she's fucking damaged. And I don't mean the part where MAGA threatened to kill her. And I don't even mean her fucking Roger Aisles to get and keep her job, which explains her weird projection with Kamala Harris. And I don't have any idea what this damage was, was it in her youth, her adolescence, young adulthood? I don't know. But what I do know is something particuarly fucking dark had to happen to explain this shit:

I mean she was human trafficked to a bunch of centaurs from Narnia who wore her out all day every day for years kind of dark.

Ailes' tiny schwanz had the texture and consistency of a sea cucumber.  Pile on record setting, eye-watering, disgusting loads of smegma and the result is trauma that no amount of therapy or pharmacologics can fix.

Remember, they love the Affordable Care Act. They hate Obamacare. Get government out of my healthcare!

this plus he saved it by first almost getting it repealed and then saying nah, basically. that was him saving. he didn't axe it.

He will endorse whoever pays him for his endorsement. And that shit will fucking happen. If Donald trump loses, after the chaos that ensues, the rest of his life will be a combination of court rooms, and being paid to appear and endorse other candidates and rally and grift.

He is not handing over control of the party as long as he lives.

Trump has been bitching this week that he's not getting enough credit for Operation Warp Speed.  His based is constantly getting gaslighted or whatever.

I'm re-watching, and there's a lot of ammo here for painting Vance as insincere, disingenuous, and elitist. He denied the pregnancy registry that's part of Project 2025, the people for whom he's writing forewords

Yep, he did what he always does.  He flooded the zone with easily disprovable lies.

Weird how they get so mad about not being able to lie indiscriminately.  Almost like it's all they can do.

That part just killed me.  There's supposed to be no fact checking!

After that, Bentsen was who most wanted to be president.

I agree that VP debates have not traditionally moved the needle much, but this is no traditional race.

Walz was largely unknown to those not following the Harris assumption of the candidacy. We're running against hate. I think the presence of an honestly good person of great capability is not to be discounted. This is a further credit to not that well known Kamala Harris as the real thing.

This is also non-traditional in that we have a candidate representing an existential threat to the republic with a large following of people who should be his enemies just as he is to them.

Probably because the last time he mentioned the vaccine at one of his rallies he got booed and never brought it up again.

Yep. I had the same thoughts last night. As a litigator, I would have made Vance choke on his words… and possibly made him look sympathetic in the process. Walz responded with affirmative statements of his own positions and policies, delivered like a regular Joe just trying to do the right thing. My sense is that will resonate better with the people that matter.

Walz seemed rough around the edges, but genuine. Vance came across as a garden variety slick, lying politician.

I think that holds true in court, too.  Seems like about half or more of jurors like a kind of down-home, yet still competent lawyer over a very polished one.  I know a few trial lawyers that cultivate that, including wearing brown suits or tweed sport coats in trial.

Indeed. The best cross I’ve ever seen was an East Texas local counsel who took that “aw shucks” approach and just devastated an expert witness with it.

We had a partner in the San Antonio Arthur Andersen office in the late 90s who had a big southern drawl but was as smart as they come.  We got pulled into some transaction one of our big clients was contemplating and the lawyers and investment bankers were trying to tell this good ole boy how it was going to be and what they were going to do.  They laid everything out for him and spent probably an hour laying out the transaction.  After they were done, he just looked at them and said "Well, that dog just ain't gonna hunt.  And I'll tell you why..." and proceeded to tear their deal apart.  They left the room with their tails between their legs. It was great.

They dared to mute Vance when he tried to expound on his lie that the Haitians in Springfield are illegals.

I love this whole concept Vance has latched on to that if you personally believe that a law is wrong, then you can just unilaterally declare it invalid.  He doesn’t like the law that these Haitians used to legally migrate so he says he considers them “illegals”.  I am no ivy league trained lawyer but even to me that sure seems problematic.

If ever you find yourself in a big level meeting, and one person sticks out like a sore thumb, it's more than likely that they are there for a reason.  I've seen this play out multiple times with fast talking slicksters that think they have all the leverage and what not, and wind up getting embarrassed.  Good rule of thumb, if someone is in the room with you in a meeting always assume they may well be the boss.

i guess, soullessly clever?

i guess? hey your hometown doesn't make shit any longer, but you can manufacture the fuck out of outrage, can't you

He’s a ChatGPT candidate . A large language model version of a human politician.

His somehow presents as something a human would say and do….. but lacks any depth or warmth.

Hes the difference between a short story you ask ChatGPT to write and one written by a real author. Even if it’s sampling the real authors work, it can’t truly replicate it when you parse it out.

Ackshually, that's not what I meant.  I meant a nice guy like Walz that doesn't let himself get steamrolled, seems to know what he's doing, but isn't smug or overly impressed with himself.  Some of those guys may act country, but they're assholes.

Many or maybe most jurors anticipate lawyers being "slick" and "sharp," not unlike people watching politicians.  So they kind of have their guard up for that kind of thing, expecting spin and perhaps a casual relationship with truth.

When they encounter someone that seems earnest and sincere, they react positively, generally speaking.  Or, as one of my colleagues once said "when you've learned to fake sincerity, you have got it down."

You know, if Trump does end up winning I think I'm actually going to be ok with it when he has all these fuckers lined up and shot despite all the work they did for him.

I'll patiently wait for the piece they put out on Vance that says "JD Vance has a tendency to lie every time he opens his mouth.  It may haunt the campaign."

This is all such tiresome both sides-ism. Did anything Walz misspoke about cause bomb threats in a community? Did his misspeak deny an election outcome? Vance can straight up invent a massive lie and conspire to keep a lie going and this is what the press is writing articles about?

Vance: Haitians are eating babies!  Kamala Harris once nuked Iowa!  Tim Walz wants college football to be played only by gay Panamanians!

Walz: Once told his wife that an outfit looked nice on her when it actually did not look nice and made her look a touch frumpy.

Media: "BOTH VP CANDIDATES HAVE BIG PROBLEMS WITH DISHONESTY!"

Debates after this election must be fact checked in real time and in between answers instead of the next question the moderator should correct any incorrect information and not give the person a chance to respond.

This will never ever, ever, ever, happen.
